How is cruel? First, no one laughed. There were a few cheers, but no one posted, hahahaha.

Second, trolls INVITE attention. He got what he asked for. The forum post was created by one of the site moderators just as an FYI, not to laugh at him.

I'm guessing a thread was made about it because 3 members put mod comments on his profile, and Ghost wanted us to know that the problem was solved. There was a problem, we were concerned, Ghost fixed it and let us know not to be concerned anymore. I wouldn't call it cruel.

Why does everyone care that some punk spammed the forums? I agree its annoying, and spamming i against the rules so a ban is perfectly justified, but to be honest its not nearly as bad as the usual mashup up uninventive word association threads, people attempting to be philosophers on a boardgaming site, and trollers trying to get pity laughs. Idk it seems like everyones perspective was skewed looking at this fiasco

Well those things are limited to their threads. If you don't want to discuss it, the thread warns you. He was spamming other threads.

to be honest people can post whatever they want on the forum but spamming should get you banned or at least your posting privileges taken away from you. all this philosophy stuff is good, trolling is kinda stupid to be honest. atleast people are showing interest in the site and the game even if it is unrelated to the actual game

I have looked at metagamer1's ONE game and in this game he did not use his "other" account to achieve a win for himself, but it looks like he worked, through fair deals, with the other countries to pull off a draw. Now I realize that he went a little psycho and posted "Donkey Punch" crap everywhere, but it seems to me that this ONE moment of him being crazy is just that: ONE moment of crazyness. To me it seems that ONE act of anything wrong should not get someone completely banned from the site, but should get that person a warning. The harsh punishment of this act shocks me a bit. Now I have not been able to make any connection between metagamer1 and noahjf other than some of the players they played with are the same. I don't see how any relation could be made between the two accounts and why the other was banned as well. It seems that this has raised much controversy between other players, however, my point of view of the punishment stands as this: metagamer1 should be banned, however, maybe with some sort of warning before hand, and that noahjf should be put under thorough analysis to be made 100% sure that it is not a second account. I believe there is not enough evidence to prove such a thing and that noah jf should be released from prison. Now that I have made my point clear I will let it stand as if to receive consideration. It seems that these should have been some of the first questions asked. I leave this open for response.

Even if the moderators know something that us players don't about the relation of the two accounts, the player never used both accounts together to make a win.

I remember this game being the worst game I've ever played. I was harassed, insulted and have never been disrespected so much while playing diplomacy. The ban was well deserved.

Isn't he a friend of yours though? I noticed that you and noahjf played a lot together. About half your games are with him and many of them were private so I'm guessing you know each other. The Mods here are quite fair I've always thought so maybe your looking at it through the eyes of a friend? I'm sure they have good reasons for the ban.

Yea.. It was an anonymous game, and I actually joined because it was posted up by one of my former friend "Leviathen". As I mentioned, joining anonymously, I did not know who was playing who. My intentions were just to play a good game and at the end when would find out we were playing against each other, we'd have a good laugh or something... but little did I know, the game was just their little joke that I unknowingly entered. Noahjf is a good player, but creating metagamer1 for that was reason was just ridiculous. He did all that just to get metagamer1 banned but he didn't know that it would also ban Noahjf.

JonathanDivin, keep in mind that if there were any active games that had both players that the mods canceled they wouldn't show up anywhere where we could see them. So we can't tell just by looking at their profile that they were not actively cheating. Just that there were no completed games that both were in together.

My understanding is that the mods can see a lot more than just what games two accounts have played in together, information that we can't see. Plus they contact the players before banning. As it says in the rules it is important to supply an active email address so that the mods can get in touch if necessary. If you don't respond to a mods email then they are going to assume guilt.

Keep in mind that I'm not a mod so don't know exactly what all they look at and what they do, the above is just my understanding of some of the processes they go through.

The clear purpose of the account metagamer1 was to try to make sure that that was the account that was banned, rather than his main account. In addition, I am sure that the accounts were owned by the same person.

The rules of the site are quite clear about both issues, don't spam and don't make second accounts. He knew this. Add the fact that what he was spamming wasn't game links or the like, but obscene, and I really don't have the time for him. In a choice between trying to show him clemency and trying to deal with other cases, I wasn't going to choose him.

@irule. I meant that JonathinDivan and noahjf are friends. They have played together in about 50% of JD's games so I was guessing that they were friends. Thus, his opinion of the punishment might be skewed.

@ alderian - I agree that you should make yourself available to the Gods - I mean Mods, sorry, just watched Clash of The Titans, but what you said worries me. This reminds me of A Man for All Seasons, where Cromwell says "nay, this silence was not silence at all, but most eloquent denial!" It's a fine line where you start to take silence as an admission of guilt. Be sure to walk on the right side of it.
