What drives me more insane than anything else in this game is illogical players. When you try to communicate with them they usually do not even respond and when you set up road block for them they still continue to attack and waste precious time in a useless drawn out war.

I always wonder what is going through their head.

Don Corleone (277 D)

"I don't want to stab him, he's my friend..." - that, and players who are playing with objectives other than winning in general.

"We have to attack you because you've got more points..." - I think this is perfectly reasonable, actually (though it would be better if they looked at ghost-ratings). It's like preemptive balance of power, I don't really see anything wrong with it.

Yeah illogical players are a pain, but I think they may just be more emotionally driven. For instance if you break a promise over some SC, say, Belgium, they lose their minds and decide you must punished for no matter the cost. To them that's just justice. Or maybe you said something to insult them or so on. Those are usually my only guesses. The worst part is, even if you correctly identify what it is about yourself that they hate, they still refuse to cooperate with you in any way, even verbally. So trashy.

People who take personal offense
I tend to give them a taste of the idiocy back writing an equally immature reply to show how "offended" I am by them telling me to suck their dick.
Don Corleone (277 D)

When I saw this from the home scree it was:
"People who take personal offense I tend to give them"

@Stukus - I do that a lot. Often I'll think of a game plan and come back to it with a fresh perspective and realise that I should be doing something else.

My biggest pet peeve in life is grammar, so it is no surprise that it translates over to webDip.

"lets be ally k lol... u can hav bel."

No, fuck you. You send me those types of messages I'll stab you just so you stop communicating to me.

To quote Hank Moody: "It just seems to me it's just a bunch of stupid people pseudo-communicating with a bunch of other stupid people in a proto-language that resembles more what cavemen used to speak than the King's English."

Agreed Flashman- if you are referring to the message above yours.
I'd like to see him in a 5 minute game, all grammatically correct- yeah RIGHT
Geofram (130 D(B))
06 Nov 09 UTC
You don't have to write in length to be correct in grammar.

The difference in time to type, "u" or "you" and "2" or "to" is so astronomically small that you cannot call a lack of time the excuse.

@masterninja, are you always this pointedly hostile? And to answer your wish, I have played in 5-minute games as a winner and a loser, I enjoy them all the same, but they are not my favourite.

Geo, i just don't like your tone, when you say that those who are not engineers, ro technically minded, are idiots?!
Even technically minded can have no EQ... IQ is not everything.
And my IQ is a sound 159 thank you.

I read your other message in a separate thread somewhat like your response here, and took it upon myself to answer both here.
Apologies
Geofram (130 D(B))
06 Nov 09 UTC
If you keep the answers seperate, you'll notice I've responded to your remarks in the other thread. And again, I never said that you had to work in an engineering profession to be intelligent. Though if you refuse to acknowledge that I never said that, I'll be forced to argue as if I did. But I will only answer in the other thread.

nonsensical, stubborn, pushy behavior, mixed with offensive comments and drivel - each of them individually i can handle in small portions, but when they are combined in a player/players, it's too much to handle and totally ruins the game, both in terms of fun and in terms of my chances at success.
StevenC. (1047 D(B))

I hate the fact that some players bring emotions into the game. It's impossible to keep emotions away completely but I feel like some players get pissed when they get stabbed. (i.e, They strap a bomb to their chest and blow up in my face because I stabbed them, how unsportsmanlike)

Like it or not the language is changing.

@StevenC. re: "You stabbed me so I feel like I have to take you down with me."
I think this is perfectly reasonable. If I'm going to lose a game why not try to bring down the player that made me lose?

Anyway, my pet peeve is players who drop at the first little setback. "You took my SC! Well, I'm not playing anymore."

Gunboat Question
Is there any way for a player to see moves that were illegal? By illegal I mean, for example, if I'm Germany and I supported English Channel to Brest, but England moved English Channel to MAO. Is there any way for England to see my attempt to support him fleet?

Game #14500, invalid move?
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=14500
I've been trying to enter a move to convoy my army in Constantinople to Sevastopol, yet I keep getting this error right above my move:
Parameter 'viaConvoy' set to invalid value 'Yes'.
If anyone could fix this, that would be great.

Why Can't I Convoy?
I'm playing game http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=15114 as England. I have a fleet in the North Sea, and an army in Yorkshire. When I went to put in my orders, I could tell the fleet to convoy the army to Norway, but I couldn't command the army to move there. Is this a bug, or am I forgetting a step?

What is the best way to play these challenging countries? Obviously, as weak as they are in the beginning, allying with one another makes sense. On the other hand, you might get lucky with a quick stab. What do people think?
