The Ghostmaker, is kind enough to post a ranking of players every month. It is a more sophisticated system than the points that appear next to your name. If you follow the link in the post titled "Ghost-Ratings List 4th Sept. 2009" you can find your own name in the list.

Yes, I understand how the Ghost ratings work, and even the formulae behind it.

However, what does "a game based on the Ghost-Rating List" actually mean? Do you choose 7 players of similar rankings?? Or the first 7 players but disclose their rankings??? Something else????

Yeah, it depends on how many people we get, but the general idea is to make a game (or more) with similar skilled players.

well, as i understand it, getting the top 7 players to play would seperate out their ghost rankings a bit. and help people move up or down the ghost-rating list to closer to a realistic equilibrium postion... which would better represent their skill (not that the ghost rating list is bad at doing this or anything, it just takes time to get to an equilibrium).

so the top 7 ranked players who want to play in a game wil play against each other in the first game, a second game if it is filled will be the next 7 players.

oh, and it is always fun to play against good players.

Can I get a wild card entry to the top board on account of the fact I'm ranked #8 on FB Dip, with 3377 , and an approx 50% of Wins+Draws?

The purpose of this game is to match people up based on their Ghost rating, so your points and win ration are relevant only to the extent that they contribute to your rating.

You'll notice that orathaic has over 2x the points I do, but I'm ranked higher than he.

Although your record is impressive on FB, in a lot of ways it's like comparing apples and oranges and I don't know what the conversion rate between FB points and webdip points is.

that i have x2 your points means you probably beat some players who were highly ranked but played them in low stake games (few dip points) or lost a very big pot, but win most of the time in the lots of games you've played, right?

I like bigger pot games because the quality of play tends to be better, but usually only play one or two games at a time.

or third board if there are enough sign ups...

So effectively... unless we get a multiple of 7, OR there are players ranked lower than 3891, that I will be excluded from this event?

How are the Ghost ratings calculated? I'm asking because there are a hell of a lot of players with fractionally better ratings than me who have only played one game.

Actually, I seem to be on a cusp. Scrolling up from my position in the table, most players have only played one game. Scrolling down, most players have played 2 games (I've played 17). Anyone know why?
