Rules Question/Check
If I convoy an army, and support the attack with a fleet... and the area is defended by one troop without a support hold, don't I win the attack?

I have no idea, but I think the person who said this should be publicly named, for a start.

p.tea i would just use that comment to poison the other players against this whackjob. its regrettable he said it but banning players for what they say in the neat of war and diplomacy is a road i don't think we should go down.

EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))

What does " p.tea " mean? Pissing in your tea cup or what?

Is there a policy here about cursing, personal insults?
I am aware of it in www.stabeurfou.org where someone was thrown out for unsportsman like behavior for personal attacks even withOUT cursing.

If by N.... people mean Nigger then it is rather weird in the first place within the confines of an email virtual environment. However, I wouldn't put past some of the Geek pseudo languages of nicknames and WTF's etc for it to mean something else.

I think it would be nice to have a moderation policy in personal attacks and extreme language but who does the monitoring and the education of the players on the policy?

Once again this brings me to the point previously mentioned back a month or three ago that before each game is started players should be made to acknowledge a very simple set of ethics and good practises::

1. The game is to be played to the finish and dropping because of a poor position is unacceptable
2. personal attacks on players and extreme language is not acceptable
3. playing multiple positions in a game is cheating and not acceptable

Players agree to the above terms and will not violate these under penalty of expulsion.

Probably keep the list down to 5 basic items as longer than that and people buzz it off.

edi's got a point... did the guy say nigger (like in the KKK sense) or nigga (like in today's pop culture)? what was the context?

and are you even african american?

1st. it was Lazysummer8484.

3rd. it refers to the character in the online series "Unforgotten Realms"

Lazysummer has proven himself to be a highly respectable player. While I find ridiculous that any real amount of cursing should its way into diplomacy, I also think censorship is a slippery slope. Perhaps dont play with him, though this may not be possible for the mean time, it will help avoid this situation.

I dont think a difference should be seen, since both are obscene terms. Also, Lazy, why are you commenting on a thread about your own actions?
Marchosias (115 D)

Heh... apparently he was acting on the belief that he wouldn't be named, and chose to antagonize his target some more.

Kick his ass in the game but don't kick the idiot out. He does have a right to be racist, or rather a right to think and believe what he chooses.

On the facebook version, there's been a few "I'm gonna rape you lololol" I find pretty much unacceptable as well.
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

Some spectacular nonsense above!!!

1. How is it ok to be a racist in the forum, open threads about whether different races should mix because 'they are different species' etc., - and then this becomes a reason for 'impeachment' when you do it in a game?

2. All is fair in love and war. If someone decided to swear in a game because he thought this is the best thing to do, than why do we need to limit how he plays? I mena - backstabbing/lying isn't nice either - should we ban it also :)

3. p.Tea - it gives you no creadit that you told who it was. The same goes for all who asked. aybe you watch too many soap operas.

4. Edi, you have suggested this a couple of time already. But could you elaborate whether:
- there will be some real penalties if someone violates this 'code"
- is this just a ceremony before each game where everyone takes an oath and we drink each-other's blood, etc. :)
A little too dramatic maybe? :)
trim101 (363 D)
29 Nov 08 UTC
theres a massive difference between swearing and being racist
spyman (424 D(G))
29 Nov 08 UTC
I think it was reasonable that p.tea told. A social convention was broken. p.tea's naming and shaming serves as a deterrent and a message to other would-be racists that we don't tolerate that behavior here.
To be fair to lazysummer he might not have intended for it to be taken the way it was. Perhaps it was a dumb joke? He has the right of reply just in case there has been a misunderstanding; and he can always apologize, and then we can move on.
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
29 Nov 08 UTC
1. If lazysummer had said it in the forum then everyone else could have told him he's a moron. He said it in the private chat - this is where it belongs. In-game press IS PART OF THE GAME-PLAY - we're expected not take it personal and role-play for the countries :). This is a DIPLOMACY site - not a Sunday discussions club :)
What p.Tea did is simply against the spirit of the game.

2. Do you want me to list you a dozen people who have behaved and said racist stuff in this forum? Do you suggest we should ban then - or put them on a "Wall os Shame"? :)
spyman (424 D(G))
29 Nov 08 UTC
Those who make racist remarks in the forum name and shame themselves.
I think that it is appropriate that some decorum is maintained even in private chats in-game. It is not necessary to abuse other players - foul language, racist taunts and threats etc are wrong. But hey, its not my site, I don't make the rules. This is just my humble opinion.
Maniac (189 D(B))
29 Nov 08 UTC
I think we should move to full censorship so things like this can be stamped out. As I don't want to fall the wrong side of any proposed censorship in the future, could someone else draw the rules up please and advise me which is worse...

(1) Calling someone a n***** in private
(2) labling someone a racist in Public?

Multiaccount Ban
Users Centaurian, vb, carlton, andreas75, calispo, and hotrod69 have been banned for multiaccounting.

I have temporarily left two other accounts (calibrate and Armageddon2) which are possibly related but at least not involved in any of the same games.

phpDiplomacy Christmas Break
I don't know if this has happened before, but it was an idea that crossed my mind.
Perhaps it might be an idea, as people have a tendency to be busy around Christmas, to relieve them of having to think about their orders?
It could be just Christmas, or Dec 24-26, or whatever. What do people think?

Unfinalized unit destruction
I put in an order in one of my games to destroy a unit in North Africa, but left the order was unfinalized. When I return the phase has past, and it destroyed Ukraine instead (because it was the furthest away from my home SCs). I thought that leaving updated but not finalized orders for build phases would execute those orders, like in regular diplomatic phases. So what gives?

Favorite/least favorite philosophers?
After Thucydides' accusation of solipsism I thought I'd bring up this topic for a little healthy discussion and perhaps some mind-expanding debate.

My favorite philosopher would be a toss-up between Aristotle and Nietzsche. My least favorite is indubitably Plato.
