I had this same question! It looks like the Republicans just worked very very hard to pass the Like Obamacare, But Worse Act of 2017 through the House. I am confused by it.

The solitary positive in their mind is that 40% of the $760 billion tax break over the next decade goes to the top 1%. In other words, they gave themselves tax breaks.

So why would a middle class or avg income Republican be thrilled? Is this one of those optimistic hope the upper 1% creates tons of jobs kinda deals.

It's fascinating how fast these "political" threads sink to the level where you can only hear rabble crying: "Give us money!"

The Republicans stated goal is to decrease health insurance premiums for working folk. By excluding pre-existing conditions, insurance companies will be paying out less in claims. Then, in theory, they will be able to lower premiums for the rest of us.

It's a Republican play to try and win over Millennials who are young and healthy. They got the seniors with Islamophobia and now they can jettison them (and their health care) because they're not the future any more.

The Republicans made a BIG mistake. The bill should read:

We repeal "Obamacare" in total.

Hauta, have you seen the list of preexisting conditions they cut? "Working folk" aren't excluded from the large majority of them.

When you give over control to the government as has been done in health care, then you are forced to beg for scraps like a dog. It has become every man for himself and pits class against class and young versus old.

I receive no pension. And as for your taking any benefits they are not there to take. But if they were they will be taken as the debt mounts. Besides millions receive 'benefits' who have never served. They have only taken. If you get no benefits: no military VA healthcare, no GI bill, no housing, and you never got to travel on our dime or eat a single meal paid by taxpayer dollars I truly am impressed. I did not know our Armed Forces were fully privatized and self sufficient.

What I have I have earned through hard work and wise investments in property. But alas i fear that will be taken too. The government will seize my savings and tax my properties and impose rents that I can charge that will be insufficient for maintence and care. As I am considered rich, what i have will be confiscated to pay for those who squandered and were frivolous or are here illegally.

I served actively in the 1980s. As for the VA, the care there is no benefit, haven't you seen the headlines? And why do you feel that while I served I didn't deserve to be paid. Are you not paid for your labor regardless of the employer? Do you feel the same towards the fire department or the police?

Your employer and financier was the American taxpayer. We gave you your salary for years. You suckled on our teats like the hog in your analogy. Now you think its such a terrible thing. Did the money you make from our taxpayer gifts to your salary help you afford these investments that made you rich?

Then there was reasonableness in the government. Today it is not so. Especially when almost forty percent of the budget is paid towards people who no nothing for it. And who pays for that? Do you? How much did you pay in taxes. And don't add in your SS tax. You probably expect to get that when you retire even though it will not be paid by you but those poor saps who will be working when you are retired.

I work 60 hours a week so I can live my life the way I want to. I dont doubt youve worked hard but the difference between us is I took out govt. Loans to go to college. I have to pay those loans back. You dont owe the taxpayers anything back according to your anti slavery rant... curious why you see serving in the military as an exception but taxation for other peoples health and well being is slavery

@Bo, lots of people have pre-existing conditions, but not everybody. The party line will be simple: We kept premiums down for Americans.
Ofc, the real goal is to de-insure people and use the savings for big tax cut for rich but I'm just speculating as to why they did what they did.
