I've studied cryptography and how it's advanced for a long time now, and i'm by no means a computer geek, but it's SO ABUNDANTLY OBVIOUS!!! we can't have politicians like this in charge. even with Hillary, at least there were problems beyond just her having a private server, multiple misfiled documents sent to her and the like.

Genuine question: why is it more concerning to people that Jeff Sessions is connected to the Russians than the fact that the guy is basically a segregationist or more worrying that Mike Pence used an insecure server than that he provided massive aid to the white town in Indiana with a lead poisoning problem but totally ignored the black town in Indiana with a far, far bigger lead poisoning problem?

Genuine Question: If the American people voted for the Russians to have a say in their politics, is it not defying democracy to try to prevent that from happening?

The entire US gov't is completely bum fucked when in comes to their technology. I haven't worked with any gov't departments or contractors directly, but my understanding is that their tech is so old (still using mainframes !!!!) that it's actually benefiting them to some degree, because most off the shelf exploit kits don't know how to exploit it.
But that doesn't preclude smarter attacks, so you end up with people like Katherine Archuleta heading up agencies like the OPM and allowing over 20 million gov't personnel records to be hacked. I'm not sure what the laws around gross negligence wrt cybersecurity look like these days, but the fact that she wasn't criminally prosecuted is pretty crazy in my mind.
