Racist or not racist?
White woman starts fire that burns several hundred thousand acres and hundreds of homes. Not charged with a criminal offense. Apache Indian starts fire that burns several hundred thousand acres and hundreds of homes. Charged, convicted, and sentenced to ten years in prison. Is this proof of the systemic racism of the American court system or not? Please cast your votes below.

Occupied by "armed Oregon militia." Not terrorists. Even though they're armed and provoking a standoff with the federal government and putting countless lives at risk.

Cat v. Dog
I think Cats are far more lovable. It has been proven cats increase positivity in their owners. They also purr and reduce blood pressure and stress. Plus you never hear some asshole say: "honey we gotta take the fucking cat for a walk, AGAIN"

Dogs smell, and they jump on people and slobber on you. Cats should win this thing.

UN II - Constitution, resolutions and proposals.
The world has changed. The time of a lonely superpower is over. There are 17 powers in the world, and each of them has a vote in the security council in the new United Nations (UN).
The purpose of the game is role-playing game of diplomacy where the diplomacy between countries is in focus, not the actual war. You should choose a role to play (the neutral country opposed all wars, the super-power wanna-be, the federalist, the I'm-just-gonna-fuck-you-up-IS-role, or any other role).

Joinable games
I have been waiting months for this to make sense to me, but I still don't get it. When I click on Games, at the moment it says "Joinable (54)". When I click on the tab, I only see 1, and that game doesn't even have any joinable positions. What am I missing?

Hello!

I’m holding a competitive cakeday party to celebrate my one year membership of webDip. I love gunboat games. I made my first 100 D with gunboat and that’s how I taught myself tactics.

As a scientist and competitor, I’m always trying to find the central tendency underlying the samples. These one-off games, even 7-game series, still are just too small a sample size. I’m looking to *really* know who’s best. Who earned the top spot more than anyone else. Who can *consistently* win, *consistently* come out on top. Plus goddamn I love gunboat.

The proposal is 50 games at 5 D each (a total of 250 D). I could go higher in game amount, up to, say, 100, if there was a 7-player consensus but for now we’ll start with this as I don’t want to scare too many people away to quickly! I’d prefer Hidden Draw Votes but it’s negotiable, let me know your preference.

No need to shuffle countries, part of the allure is the possibility of getting the same country or, even if you don’t know it at the time, same local player allocations and seeing how the different games turn out.

I realize this is a significant RR commitment. For me, I never take more than 30 seconds for a gunboat game, unless I’m over 10 units. Then it takes a whole 60 seconds. There's obvious exceptions but in general I find the optimal move and go on to the next one. Then again, I'm not the top of the top yet so maybe I should spend more time on them ;)

Do *Not* Enter if you aren't super duper confident you can handle it. It's ok. No one is going to judge you. I'll still love you. I'm not planning on any vacation that removes my internet access ... ever. I know not everyone is like that. Or they have progeny. Who does that? Seems like a waste of perfectly good gunboat time and energy. Anyways.

Games will be 48 H/phase with readying highly encouraged. At 48 H/phase you can submit orders at 12:01am, and still have until 11:59pm the next day for the next set of orders, so it’s 100% guaranteed that you only need to check once per day if you’re that kind of person.

As far as scoring goes, I would assume the standard
-N for win
-N/M for M-player draw
And for tie-breakers:
-Amount of solos, then total SC count

In summary:
I humbly invite you to
50 games at 5 D each
No In-Game Messaging, Anonymous, Winner Takes All, (Hidden Draw Vote)
48 H/phase

Let me know if you have any questions or interest.

All your cake are belong to us.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes. I know with 100% certainty that 50 gunboats is more than I can cope with in a lifetime, and would fail abysmally if I joined. Still, my sincere admiration and sympathy for those who join up. Good luck!

I think I may have misunderstood the terms of the game. Is this 50 games with the same 7 people? Or do others come in and take over for the losers once they have been eliminated?
dyager_nh (619 D)

It sounds like 50 games at once. So if you spend 5-10 minutes of thought per game you would need to 2-4 hours per day.

No I meant one year total. My cakeday for learning Diplomacy and joining webDip is July 12th, 2014. I've only been a donor since March 12th which is my IRL cakeday.
MarquisMark (326 D(G))

Did you just learn how to play diplomacy when you joined the site?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
17 Jul 15 UTC
Yeah, I watched some of triumvir412 youtube videos, watched TheHistoryGamer's youtube tutorial videos, and read all the general articles on http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/. Signed up for both PlayDip and webDip that day and tried it out.

I had collected boardgames for a long time before that though so I was aware of Diplomacy, but I only knew about it as "the game that ruined friendships and made grown men cry", I didn't know how to actually play.

@valis

Damn, son. I gotta give some respect there...that's amazing progress for only playing this game a year.

I also learned the ropes from triumviir and the historical gaming videos. Those were very helpful but unfortunately there aren't any new ones. Does webdip have a YouTube channel? Might be cool to have some other members here post commentary videos.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

we do have a twitter, https://twitter.com/webDiplomacy, but not a youtube channel yet.

I'd sign up if it weren't 50 games at once. I could maybe do 10 at once back to back to back to back to back, but 50 at once is insane.
