Boy suspender for finger gun
http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/04/us/ohio-boy-suspended-finger-gun/

Apparently it's a "level 2 lookalike firearm"

I almost got suspended in first grade because I tore out a piece of paper and it looked remotely like a gun and I pointed it at the kid next to me. We both laughed. Fortunately, the administration at my school had some sense, whereas the teacher apparently thought I was on my way to becoming a serial killer.
Putin33 (111 D)

Numerous letters were sent home and the kid still did it.

The kid's parent said they didn't get any letters...

@Putin: that's irrelevant. There is absolutely no reason to for a punishment. When I was in elementary school (about ten years ago now) we would play cops and robbers, or a similar game (soldiers, etc.) and use our fingers as guns. Or we would make paper shooters out of mechanical pencils and shoot paper balls at each other.

Now that would be grounds for suspension. That's bullshit.

Kid should know he can't fingerbang his classmates.
Putin33 (111 D)
08 Mar 14 UTC
The school has had a pervasive problem with play shooting and this has been going on for weeks. The parents acknowledged they were aware of various warnings the school made about it, and the kid did it anyway.

This is why discipline falls apart at schools, because parents think it's a free-for-all and their kid is never wrong.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

No, discipline falls apart in schools because of Draconian rules and other idiotic policies.
Putin33 (111 D)
08 Mar 14 UTC
You clearly haven't been in the schools if you think there are draconian rules.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 Mar 14 UTC
When was the last time YOU were in school, Putin? By draconian rules I mean shit like "no backpacks in the halls" and zero-tolerance policies. Can't fight back if someone attacks you or you get suspended.
Putin33 (111 D)
08 Mar 14 UTC
I worked in the very school system this suspension took place in a couple of years ago, thanks. I also know that we can't even send kids home for having live lice in their hair, so the idea that rules are draconian is absurd.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 Mar 14 UTC
Can't send home kids for lice? What kind of joke school is that.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
08 Mar 14 UTC
Schools should teach firearm safety, not make guns a de facto thoughtcrime. We already teach kids about everything else safety-related, why not principles of firearm handling and operation?

Just get a local gun shop or police department to donate some surplus pieces and render them inoperable by removing the firing pins. Bring in a local NRA instructor as a guest teacher. It wouldn't be expensive or complicated.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
08 Mar 14 UTC
Just remove the lice and move on...
steephie22 (182 D(S))
08 Mar 14 UTC
@Gunfighter: I would want them to remove a bit more than the firing pins if the guns stay around.

It's not that hard to smuggle a firing pin and a bullet in without making much effort...
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 Mar 14 UTC
We used bows in middle school gym, guns wouldn't be a big jump.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 Mar 14 UTC
@steephie: at that point, if you had a firing pin and a bullet, it wouldn't be much more of a stretch to bring in a whole gun, would it?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

No, we shouldn't have actual guns in schools.

End of story.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

@ steephie22

If you're going to go to the trouble of sneaking in a firing pin and a live round, you might as well bring a loaded and operational firearm, instead of one that requires a conspicuous amount of assembly. A kid who knows how to break down a firearm and correctly re-install the correct type of firing pin is a kid who probably has guns at home.

Besides, these kids would be under constant supervision the whole time, obviously. You can't inconspicuously install a firing pin and load a live round without a half-vigilant supervisor noticing.

@ bo_sox48

So you'd rather have a generation of idiots who don't respect firearms and don't know a thing about firearm safety? Okay. A lot fewer people have been killed in firearm safety classes than in accidents outside of a classroom.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
08 Mar 14 UTC
@ bo_sox48

You're in high school, right? What's the driving age where you live? You trust your classmates with 2,000 pound guided missiles but you don't trust them with an inoperable firearm?
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 Mar 14 UTC
In school we teach math, science, literature, foreign language. We teach driver's ed and sex ed. We teach biology, chemistry, physics, economics. We teach art and music, and how to play dozens of sports in gym class. Why not gun safety? Especially in states like Texas, Wyoming, Iowa, Pennsylvania, etc., where there are lots of guns.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Mar 14 UTC
Lol, no, I don't trust my classmates driving. My government does. Ask them. I barely trust myself and I'm more experienced than any of them by far.

I don't want to be the teacher supervising when some 13-year-old class clown decides it would be funny to "try something" with a gun. No teacher does.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Mar 14 UTC
Chaqa, you can have gun safety seminars or whatever without pulling out an actual gun.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 Mar 14 UTC
I don't think what gunfighter is suggesting is dozens of guns. Maybe three or four with the firing pins removed, and clips with the springs removed, that can be used as visuals. Hell, plastic replicas would work.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Mar 14 UTC
Fill the barrels with cement. And when I was in junior high, we learned archery as part of gym class. That was a ton of fun and the worst person that came out of school with me to the best of my knowledge is serving time for mail fraud - he owned Berkeley Nutraceuticals, makers of enzyte.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Mar 14 UTC
Yeah Chaqa, plastic replicas would work. I never said we shouldn't have gun safety classes (it would save me a lot of time outside of class), I just said we shouldn't ever make it seem even remotely okay to have an actual gun in school.

"
Numerous letters were sent home and the kid still did it.
"

Letters for WHAT?!?! You actually think this is rational, because Libtard teachers sent letters home over a child making a finger gun? Moron...

The teachers should be fired for wasting time and effort and postage to send letters home over a damned finger gun. Moron.
krellin (80 DX)

"The school has had a pervasive problem with play shooting"

Because we all know play gunshot wounds are the mostest dangerous...
krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 14 UTC
Seeing as how deadly the mighty finger gun is, they should have found the kid in class with the a double-hand semi-automatic finger gun, and had him sharp-shoot the lice off the dirty kid's heads.

RIP Bob Crow
There are not many people who achieve as big an impact on the lives and minds of the British people as Bob Crow. I did not often agree with him, indeed I can't remember ever agreeing with him, but he was without doubt a man of principle who fought tirelessly for his beliefs and earned no small amount of respect. Rest in peace.

Need two players for a solid full-press game.
We're looking for two reliable players—either with no CDs or with very few CDs that can be explained away—to fill out gameID=137177. We’ve played several games together with largely the same group (a few rotate in and out each game), and they've all been good games with lots of press. They're pretty balanced as well--no solos yet.
