Need to think of a gift for me.
So I was thinking Call of Duty: Ghosts or Battlefield 4, but as it turns out I can't run either, though by a close margin.

Anyone a nice idea?

NFL Pick 'em: Week 13--Are You Ready For Some (Thanksgiving) Football?
Ah, Thanksgiving football...the last refuge of a man looking to avoid a family argument on Thanksgiving day. Truly there's no more unifying sentiment than "Shut up, eat your food, and root for the Cowboys to lose!" Come Sunday, the Chiefs and Broncos will clash, and the Saints and Seahawks go at it on Monday Night. It's a good and important week of football, so--PICK 'EM!

Indiana Jones and the Quest for Plot Relevance?

While that's admittedly a double sin, posting something from The National Review and TBBT, I'd never thought about it that way...granted I've only seen the film a couple times, but still, huh--was Indy was mostly or completely pointless to the overall plot, or did the best worst archaeologist of all-time really come out awesome after all...at least until Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? ;)

From Draw to Solo - Part 1
Playing to draw is quite easy for most of us - but how to turn that into a solo? I've seen many people struggle with that question and I'm no exception. For this reason I thought it would be good to analyze some actual cases and get some advice from the more advanced players on the site: how to get the solo? My first case, inside, I hope others follow!

Favorite Cocktails
I love cognac and wine, but aside from those two "regular" favorites, I love to try out new cocktails...they're just so impeccably tasty AND have that wonderful effect of leaving you "happy" enough--not really a somber drinker, except for one time, but that was due to extenuating circumstances--to be sociable but not dead on your feat or a drunken mess. So, for taste and effect alike...favorite cocktails? :)

1) breath
2) speak
3) hint or insinuate that Isreal has some kind of responsibility toward people under their occupation
4) publicly state that the canaanite claim to palestine predates the hebrew claim and therefore the real homeland for world jewry is the southern iraq (ie Ur of old).

This is a very valid point, if you completely ignore the fact that he's never bombed anyone despite constant threats for years.

So let's just ignore that and spread bullshit.

"Obama once again earns his peace prize."

Even if you think this is a good deal, the whole war in Libya, planned war in Syria without Congressional or UN authorization, and use of drone killings with abandon ought to still keep him in negative territory when it comes to deserving the peace prize.

This is a good deal if you think the United States should learn to live with a nuclear Iran and accept that the Islamic Republic will endure. We may be able to do that. Obama, particularly after the Syria debacle, seems to be pulling up stakes in the Middle East. With North American energy self-sufficiency almost a reality already the region very well could slip out of being an important part of the world for our interests.

Israel, however, is stuck there. And it cannot accept the patron of Hezbollah to have nuclear capability. This deal's made it clear that America will never attack Iran to prevent it from getting a nuclear weapon. In making what could very well be a good deal for the United States, Obama has potentially set the stage for a unilateral Israeli strike. That still probably won't happen, but this makes it much more likely.

A country sitting on an ocean of oil needs nuclear power for electricity? And is willing to endure these kinds of sanctions over the principle to build whatever power plant it wants? And builds missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads?

Iran absolutely seeks nuclear weapons. It certainly seeks the ability to build them if it ever decided to take the plunge, like where Japan and Canada are today. Maybe we can live with that. Israel, one dirty bomb in Tel Aviv away from destruction, cannot.
mendax (321 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
Israel already has nuclear weapons. Do you really think Iran is willing to commit suicide? The state has been a rational actor for decades, it's not going to change that suddenly.

@ Invictus: "A country sitting on an ocean of oil needs nuclear power for electricity?"

They want to sell their oil, not use it for domestic consumption.
Invictus (240 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
It's not like they have to choose, Jamiet99uk. Where do you think Saudi Arabia gets its electricity?

"Israel already has nuclear weapons. Do you really think Iran is willing to commit suicide?"

It's not about using nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons don't exist to be used. They exist as a way to project power more effectively. A nuclear Iran can say, "Don't attack Hezbollah too much in Lebanon, even after a huge attack on the north of Israel, or we may have to respond." It can support a coup in Bahrain and put the new government under its nuclear umbrella. It can do any number of things with the insurance policy underwritten by having or being weeks away from having nuclear weapons.
mendax (321 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
It was hardly a huge attack. They killed 3 Israeli Soldiers in the initial raid. If that is huge...
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
@ Invictus: "It's not like they have to choose, Jamiet99uk. Where do you think Saudi Arabia gets its electricity?"

Um, Saudi Arabia is also pursuing a civilian nuclear power programme.
Invictus (240 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
In response to Iran's, which, like Iran's, is cover for achieving the break-out point. It's an alternative option if the deal to buy weapons from Pakistan ends up not being viable or it not being to get the weapons that quickly.

"It was hardly a huge attack. They killed 3 Israeli Soldiers in the initial raid. If that is huge..."

I mean a future attack. Hezbollah is better armed than ever now.
mendax (321 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
Ok, so we should be worried about some speculated Iranian response to a speculated Hezbollah attack using non-existant nuclear weapons as a negotiation point generated by Iran's speculated nuclear weapons program? Because that doesn't sound particularly scary to me, especially when compared to the current atrocities that Israel is inflicting upon people.
Invictus (240 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
I've consistently said here a nuclear Iran may well be something America can live with. It is not, however, something Israel can. The things you dismiss as speculation is exactly the scenario that worries Israeli policy makers.

You're right. Iran isn't suicidal and won't attack Tel Aviv. But it is an enemy of Israel and will use the leverage nuclear weapons or the ability to quickly produce nuclear weapons to constrain Israeli actions. Ditto for its possible actions in the Gulf, especially Bahrain which it views as an Iranian province stolen by the British. Thinking a nuclear or near-nuclear Iran won't change almsot everything about the Middle East is silly.
mendax (321 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
Oh no, Isreal (with US backing) will no longer be a regional hegemon! What a horror!

Israel is no more evil than the United States is. Israel is no more evil than the United Kingdom is, or France, or Germany, or Russia. And it's certainly no more evil than Syria, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia are. You don't have to support Israel or Palestine, but cheering for war against Israel is hypocritical and stupid. If you want peace so badly, you will not fight for peace through means of destruction; instead, you will approach it patiently and allow cooler heads to prevail, which they will in the end. In the mean time, rather than antagonizing one side and apotheosizing the other (whichever pairing you may choose), you will put them both on the same level and agree that they both have the same right to peace and everything else as you do living in a safe and developed nation.

That's directed at a lot of people. Don't take personal offense, just think about it.

Trading places
According to the Avalon Hill Diplomacy Rulebook, units cannot trade places without the use of a convoy. Is this also true in a situation where one of the territories is bicoastal? Can a fleet in Bulgaria (west coast) move to Constantinople while a fleet in Constantinople move to Bulgaria (south coast) or would this constitute a bounce?
