You might think that, Byron, but experience doesn't bear it out. People are too invested in their own points of view to listen very hard to others, too concerned with calling their opponents "gross people" or "sexist" or other such nonsense.

The worst fire I returned was calling somebody an agitator, which I feel was quite mild and reasonable by comparison.
Ogion (3817 D)

Really, CA? I guess that explains why there are so many women US presidents, CEOs, etc etc, they get paid precisely the same as anyone else and sexual assault never happens, because women can control their position no matter what the attitudes of anyone else. Great to know we live in some alternate universe where deep seated, endemic sexism isn't an issue at all! That was so easy to solve!

Croak just thinks women are less capable (:

I think women can be just as capable, which is why I think holding their hands and giving them everything on a silver platter is patronising.

I would appreciate it if you would not lie about me.
Durga (3609 D)

So how do you explain the discrepancy in numbers
CroakandDagger (718 D)

Between...?

I agree silver platters are very patronizing. That is why I choose to only eat my sandwiches my wife prepares off of a gold platter. Much more elegant and deserving of my superior place above her.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
22 Nov 17 UTC
I think she eats hers off the counter when I let her eat. Usually she just has a water and a salad. Gotta maintain that figure so she can use it to advance her career in her male dominated field.
CroakandDagger (718 D)

How wonderful it is that we can have respectful discussion rather than resorting to crude strawmen.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

But at the end of the day if she goes no where that’s fine. I’m the breadwinner and king of my household and she should be more concerned with keeping the castle clean and he guests well fed.

Ogion:

I think it was more of a response to your assertion he doesn’t understand what feminism is.

What’s a straw man? I assume he is educated and probably a better candidate for advancement than my wife?
CroakandDagger (718 D)

A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent.

Sounds like mr.strawman is full of himself. He should probably withhold some of that in the interview. What am I saying, he could be completely unqualified and still get the job over my wife.

Thoughtful contributions gentlemen, thank you.

Ogion,

I think the alternate reality is that you stated that I don't know what feminism is.

I gave you a definition a definition of feminism rather than being sarcastic.

You took my definition of a concept and incorrectly took it as an assertion that women are in every way equal to men and are facing no roadblocks to self-determination.

I am bemused at your ability to miss the point and believe the absolute worst of anyone who you believe might disagree with you.

So not only can you not provide a citation but you resort to personal attacks, instead? Let's see if the mods will agree with me that you just broke a site rule in the most sophmoric way possible, shall we?

Actually, CA, that's a testament to your poor writing skills that it wasn't at all clear.

And yeah, when it comes to white supremacists and sexist, I think the worst of them. And that's absolutely the right stand. I'm sure the ND and CB and croak love to defend supremacism and I'll condemn them to the ends of the earth.
Or perhaps your reading skills my friend :-)

TrPrado understood perfectly as he wasn't burdened by any prejudice in the issue. You assumed the worst because you wanted to assume the worst. Nothing more or less than that.
Indra Nooyi

Mansplaining and manscaping
I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

Spring 1901 NMR
What provisions are there in general for dealing with players who NMR on the first turn? Should we simply agree on a draw and try and rebuild the game with new players? Is there a way to bring in replacements?

New York is the best.
Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
I'd have to claim NY
