Are countries assigned randomly?
New to this site here, so sorry if this is answered elsewhere that I didn't find. Are countries assigned randomly when a game starts? (I'm noticing in the Championship Belt Game Series that xorxes always plays Austria and captainmeme always plays France, but have not found any setting for choosing a country or assigning preferences or anything.)

Uber is kind of cool
So, I dont actually plan to spend money. But I downloaded this cool app called uber. I think its like, taxi cabs or toy cars or something. But they move. They wiggle around and travel places on this cool map that looks a little like real life. I watched this one car strolling down a highway. This is neat. How do I take over one of these cartoon car thingys

Hiliary rigged her nomination
Former interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile has come out exposing the Clinton campaign of taking over the DNC prior to her getting the nomination as the party's candidate which gave Clinton the control over the party's finances, strategy and all the money raised.

Incomplete orders on the small preview map are a problem.
Not all orders (most notably support orders) are shown on the small preview map of a game and, especially in Gunboat, this is pretty problematic.

PE:

My third post in this thread included a link to the statement of offense for Papadopoulos, which included a timeline of events. He’s pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in an agreement to avoid other charges.

Crazy that PE is commenting on this with authority without having read/seen the biggest headline of the day (Papdopolous pleading guilty). A perfect illustration of the information and media divide in the United States right now.

Kansas:

Papadumbass was caught lying because everything he lied about was proven false by his own posts on his private Facebook page. After realizing that he deleted it and made a new one. It wasn’t coerced, he’s just an idiot.

@TrPrado thanks, will read and hopefully come to a better understanding about this.

This investigation is an interesting test of the strength and credibility of the institutions of government in the USA. I think that Mueller will "go where the evidence leads him". One interesting question is, will Trump give Presidential pardons to his minions if they are convicted of criminal offences ? If he does, would that be regarded as an abuse of his powers ?

When did Eden become such a snowflake?
Ogion (3817 D)
01 Nov 17 UTC
MM, he can try but that is likely to be grounds for obstruction charges, plus there are state law charges like money lanudering and the like that he can't pardon so it might not help

Imho, Trump is somewhat like a bug caught in a spiders web ( of his own making) the more he wiggles about evasively the more he gets entangled.
I don't think President Eden is suddenly behaving like a snowflake. Reluctance to be a doormat hardly makes anyone a snowflake.

Trump is far from perfect, not as smart as he thinks he is, but generally well-intentioned and patriotic.

The Democratic establishment are rotten to the core with corruption that everyone in the media is happy to skate over because of kickbacks and smug "you-scratch-my-back"-ism.

You don't think CNN is totally biased towards the liberals?

You clearly haven't watched a second of American CNN.

Papadopoulos plea isn’t enough to take Trump down. The Campaign Supervisor who encouraged him to go to Russia to meet with someone from their Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see about cooperation with the campaign in an off the record meeting may not be enough either. Though I am extremely curious about who that supervisor was, as he was unnamed in the Statement of the Offense.
ishirkmywork (1401 D)

i don't actually think Trump will be impeached, based on the cowards in congress. the hope here is to cripple the president politically, making his goonish, authoritarian, hateful policies toxic and politically irrelevant until sanity can hopefully be restored. i'll admit i think the horse is out of the barn at this point, and wars, disaster, and the trampling of civil rights our in our near future.

True, it would take winning Senate seats in several neofascist backwaters. Given that Congress doesn't represent the American people, it won't happen. Even once it is proven that Trump is a Russian mole, it won't happen, because Republicans are THAT disloyal to the nation.
Ogion (3817 D)
01 Nov 17 UTC
I"m sorry, I was confused. I suspect he will be impeached once the Democrats take back the house in 2018, simply because to not do so would be unconscionable. However, I doubt he would be convicted and removed from office.

Dearest KB ...The commentators on USA politics that I regularly watch are Brooke & Shields on the independent PBS news service. If you want to rate them as ignorant mugs then that's your prerogative, I don't, I rate the pair of them as intelligent, experienced and generally well balanced in their analysis.

Rupert Murdoch's first newspaper was the Adelaide News, (inherited from his father) the afternoon news paper in the capital of the State in which I was born and mostly lived. That's where he started his media empire, so I've been reading Murdoch's papers, News, Australian, Advertiser etc for over fifty years. So whilst I am definitely no expert on American media, I am definitely no novice when it comes to Rupert's News Corporation. The proposition that the American media are ALL slavish sycophants to Hillary is risible. Some may well be, but to suggest the majority are is ridiculous, and that ALL are is sheer self deluding lunacy.

I dare say I know more about the political history and political institutions of the USA than most Trump supporters from Central Dumbnutenessee know about my country, or in many cases, their own. I have read countless diverse American writers from Damon Runyon, Gore Vidal & Hunter S Thompson, to the contributors to Playboy, over several decades. Then there's all that "imported talent" mainly from Europe, like Ayn Rand & Einstein, but also including the odd Australian, like the art critic Robert Hughes.

You've displayed an annoying but all too common fault of many citizens of the USA, the misconception that people outside the USA know as little about the USA as y'all know about the world outside the USA.
I've been exposed to "cultural influences" from the USA from childhood mainly via TV and films as well as music and literature, but fortunately that was diluted by cultural influences from the United Kingdom, Europe and from my own country, Australia, with a little bit from New Zealand and Asia as well.

Because the USA has been the world's dominant superpower post WW2, it's "culture" has been exported to the rest of the world. It's also why the rest of the world "watches" USA politics, business news etc. But it's largely been a one way traffic. Y'all are far more insulated and insular to what goes on outside of your nation than the outside world is to what goes on in the USA.

Most modern citizens of the USA are only fed a diet of their own globally dominant "culture" (and Europeans will understand that I use the term "culture" in combination with "the USA" in a slightly satirical way). That's why, quite frankly, so many citizens of the USA are, to put it simply, "plain ignorant folks" particularly when it comes to the world outside of the USA, but increasingly commonly, about their own country as well. Kudos to your public school system and it's decline since the 1960's. Why read Twain, Hemingway or Vidal Gore, watch Citizen Kane when y'all can watch the Kardashians, rednecks catchin' Gators & rattlesnakes, South Park, American Dad & "read" Twitter.

So I may have been mistaken about CNN (which I doubt), but I am sure there are an abundance of media outlets in the USA that hate Hillary and the Democrats and proselytise relentlessly in favourof the Conservatives & more extreme right wing groups, dissembling disingenuously and disseminating propaganda 24/7/365.

The claim I refute was that ALL media in the USA is subservient to Hillary & Bill Clinton and the Democrats.
Good luck arguing that such a claim is valid KB, whilst you do so you might have a "eureka" moment and realise why your political claims suffer a distinct lack of credibility.
KansasBoyd (25 DX)

so you are basing your opinion of US media on one news show?

good to know.

Good luck arguing that such a claim is valid KB, whilst you do so you might have a "eureka" moment and realise why your political claims suffer a distinct lack of credibility. "

So you are refuting a claim I never made?

That is a good use of time. Well done.

Former Trump friend Manafort has 3 different US passports under his own name and at least one under a fake name that's he's used to travel and possibly move money. The first to be indicted and a step up the ladder of Republican lies about what was happening during the election campaign.

Axis & Allies general discussion thread
See title. I started playing it about a month ago. It's quite fun and a very different challenge from Diplomacy. I'm still getting my head wrapped around the editions, but I believe my group plays the "Classic" version (Spring 1942 start and there are no artillery, destroyers, etc.)

A friend and I are also working on a "present-day" version.
