Whilst Dipbro Brainbomb makes a few reasonable suggestions, fix the (public, my interpretation) schools, fix gun laws, invest in high speed rail, some of his other suggestions, imho are just not reasonable, practical of achievable.
For instance his suggestion on tax reform.
A much more moderate rate of tax on higher incomes combined with the removal of a wide variety of "loopholes" would be quite effective. Similarly with business taxes. You don't want to kill businesses, or drive the wealthy offshore.
For middle income earners tax rates should be modest, and the "tax free threshold" should be raised to a level that protects lower income earners.
Universal industry based superannuation schemes are a way of improving savings for lower & middle income groups.
Raising the minimum wage is a much needed reform. Germany and other European countries have relatively "high" basic wage economies and that works quite well. Domestic consumers can purchase goods and services and that strengthens their economies.
I don't think the answer is a "strongman" or small elite group having authoritarian powers. Political reform, on donations, lobbying etc, plus building consensus over a broad base for reasonable reform is difficult, but I think the best way to achieve reforms. Finding inclusive solutions.
