"Au contraire, it seems to've killed seven people. But my point was that it was a really bad analogy."
Noooooo...
A world view like yours that pities this schmuck for not getting laid and blames THAT as the cause of this rather than A. An extremely misogynistic and twisted young man, B. A society that operates on the sexual ideology that puts pressure on men to pursue women and women to consign themselves to a life of pursuit, catcalls, harassment and fear, and C. The "Men's Rights Activists" and Anti-Feminists who support this man's killing women and stand against feminism while bemoaning the problems of white Christian American Men (which is a bit like complaining that you just can't lose those 5 extra pounds you think you have to a person whose country is in a civil war and doesn't know where their next meal is coming from) who helped shape this jackass's beliefs, as evidenced by his documented activity and postings on their site.
(So sidebar...mapleleaf, try not to go on a murderous rampage...I mean, you said it yourself, you still can't wipe your own ass yet--have you solved that yet, my favorite fecal smear of a person you?)
Back to people and things actually halfway relevant--
Lack of sex did not cause this.
Sex is NOT A GOD-GIVEN RIGHT for men (or women, to be fair, though I can't think of an instance where a woman's complained about being entitled to sex...and heeeeere comes an interesting response from SOMEONE, I'm sure...oh boy.)
Let me ask you, Tolstoy--
Elliot Rodger said he wouldn't have done this if he'd had at least one girl have sex with him...to which those blaming this on "lack of sex" seem to cry out, "Oh, see, if ONLY you girls had paid a little attention to him, you wouldn't have had a gun-toting looney at your door...guess you learned YOUR lesson, right?"
Say he was actually being truthful--
Are you really going to ask a woman to spread for this guy so he won't kill people?
"Spread your legs or I'll shoot!"--That's the ethos we should be encouraging here?
And to take it one step further...I don't know if you have a sister, but...
If you had one, and Elliot Rodger demanded you make her spread or he shoots--
Are you REALLY going to tell your sister she has to put out for this creep?
In all our lovely little talks about religion, we've talked about--fair or no--how religions have developed a nasty reputation for putting women in dehumanizing positions, from Deuteronomy 25 11:12 (still my "favorite" passage from the Bible...because nothing says "The Good Book" like lopping off a woman's hand, right?) to the horrifying oxymoron that is "honor rape."
Whether you believe in a religion or not, whether you still back the Bible or not, I think we can safely say those two above instances are both horribly egregious acts of violence towards women, yes?
Then what makes a "spread for the poor sex-starved boy or he shoots" ethos acceptable, understandable, or even pitiable?
And those horrifying violations of women and their rights were penned hundreds or thousands of years ago, depending on the text...
What makes an attitude that says "lack of sex is a legitimate cause of mass murder" a position that should be backed, at all, in 2014?
I'm not saying you yourself pity Rodger, I'm just saying--
It's NOT about lack of sex...it's about a lack of action against a culture that breeds misogyny to the point where you can't watch a baseball game without seeing tits and ass all every commercial break, but if a woman tries to breastfeed a child in public, there's a complete and total uproar like THAT is the most indecent and disgusting thing imaginable, a mother using her breasts to feed and care for her child.
And it needs to stop.
