Bug?
Look at gameID=111572 , specifically at France's fleet in Piedmont... why is Piedmont not blue, given that it is not an SC?

Nice things thread
It's a gorgeous late-winter Friday in Maine. There's not a cloud in the blue, blue sky, and it may get all the way up to the high 40s today. I'm in an uncharacteristically good mood, so I decided to start this thread inviting you webdippers to be happy about something.

Inflation
Why do government "inflation" figures always discount FOOD and ENERGY prices....which are the *bulk* of people's regular spending...?

Anyone know why this formula is used?

Liberal of the day awards
To help Sbyvl36 on his noble quest of muting liberals, we will utilize this thread in determining who is the most liberal person of the day, and why he is liberal. Post possible nominations below and reasons as to why they are the liberal of the day. Together we should be able to make a decision and make Sbyvl36s life easier.

My nominations:
Jimgov: Wrongfully claimed global warming is real and caused by humans.
goldfinger0303: Tried to interfere with people talking about how awesome second amendment rights are.
Ulytau: Thinks that government has a place in preventing monopolies from forming.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

zultar: Believes in science and thinks that we should have math based holidays (like Pi day)

Thucydides: my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world did i mention how beautiful she is

Too late. He already muted me. But thanks for the nomination.

It would be amusing if goldfinger0303 won, since trying to mute him would be as frustrating as arguing with a Sbyvl.

Has anyone noticed how much more the conservatives hate the liberals as compared to vice versa on this site?
jimgov (219 D(B))
15 Mar 13 UTC
@Bohonk - Everyone notices. It's what they do.
Bohonk (1918 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
I don't really think it's just this site either. It seems to be that way in general. I don't understand it.
Octavious (2701 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Actually, no. I've always got the impression that the conservatives were more live and let live sort of people who enjoy a big argument, whereas the liberals (well, some of them) sprout forth real venom.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

"Thucydides: my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world did i mention how beautiful she is"
This shows traditional family values, I nominate Thucy for the conservative of the day.

@Bohonk: I would disagree, Syvbol seems to be the exception but me and Krellin (and probably others) actually enjoy arguing with liberals.
Bohonk (1918 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Fair enough. While I commit to being neither conservative or liberal, I do enjoy a good argument. But it seems to be that liberal values are so often mocked by conservatives, krellin constantly making fun of climate change for example.

Ok... Pet peeve of the day. Climate change is not a liberal value. Climate change just is.
Octavious (2701 D)

To quote the Conservative party (who, I've been told, are quite conservative)

"We are delivering in government the green Conservative agenda we promised in Opposition. We are creating a cleaner, greener Britain with our ambitious policies to improve energy efficiency and demand global action on climate change."
YadHoGrojaUL (330 D)

More like - "We are creating a cleaner, greener Britain by destroying what remains of British Industry"

I appreciate your efforts to help in my muting rampage. But once again, I am muting the obnoxious ones. Notice I haven't muted Celticfox or bosox, as they can be debated. Jack Klein, despite him being impossible to reach, knows his stuff.

"Fair enough. While I commit to being neither conservative or liberal, I do enjoy a good argument. But it seems to be that liberal values are so often mocked by conservatives, krellin constantly making fun of climate change for example."
Read the gun control threads. A lot of liberals sarcastically claimed that giving everyone a free gun and teaching us all how to use them would solve everyones problems. Thats mocking.

Read what Maniac had to say on immigration:
"I am a conservative

Borders should be abolished and everyone who wants to come and compete for jobs that help us to pay poverty wages should be encouraged. but Borders should be tightened to keep out anyone who doesn't look like us, sound like us or prey like us."

Mocking our stance on immigration by posting self contradictory messages.

Liberals are mocking the conservatives just as much as we are mocking them.
Maniac (189 D(B))
15 Mar 13 UTC
~Fasces - in fairness politicians in the UK do seem to have a habit of being able to state contradictory views on immigration and get away with it. This applies to all political parties. Take the following quote:

"...the free movement of people across Europe is a central tenant of the EU.... on the whole this is good for our economy. However, we realise that people feel as if we haven't listened to their genuine concerns about immigration.....it is not racist to suggest that immigration should be controlled"

This kind of drivel could have come from any of the three main political parties.

@Jamiet99uk: I'm mocking Sbyvl36 and his mute a day. I'm trying to think of absurd reasons to justify a mute:
"goldfinger0303: Tried to interfere with people talking about how awesome second amendment rights are."
Goldfinger is one of the most pro-2nd ammendment people here, but he still said this:
"Thanks for derailing such a sad and obviously personal story guys. "

A mute a day keeps the Liberals away.
I have now started a tradition of muting one liberal everyday. I mute these people based on the radical statements that they make in the forum. As I don't want to hear it anymore, I am taking advantage of a very pleasant tool.

Real Science! The Higgs Boson confirmed
Since we are talking science today, I've noticed that no one has jumped on the announcement that the Higgs Boson was confirmed today. Although it has been suspected for decades, actually finding the particle that possibly gives everything its mass is a huge announcement.

Last seen online?
I just saw somebody in a game online with a blue icon, but it didn't change the flag 'last seen online'. Question: how do these functions work? Is the blue icon reliable? Does the flag switch when a game is opened or literally when somebody is online?

Hey Thucy
"On the other hand if I must say anything on the subject of female excellence to those of you who will now be in widowhood, it will be all comprised in this brief exhortation. Great will be your glory in not falling short of your natural character; and greatest will be hers who is least talked of among the men whether for good or for bad." -Thucydides

Do Americans save money?
It may just be stupid television, but it seems like most Americans either spend their money as soon as they get it or save it to buy something more expensive as soon as they've got enough. Is this true for most Americans or is that just television? I don't know about other countries but here in the Netherlands most people (adults at least) have quite some money stashed on a bank account for worse days...

Default disband orders?
Hey all, I just joined a game as CD replacement, and Russia CDd as well during a disband phase. Since he does not fill in a disband order, the adjudicator forces him to disband.
My question: how is this disband determined?

locked games
I don't understand it: I see so many locked games that people join but I never see them advertised in the forum. How do people who create the game expect to get the password to potential players? And, if I want to participate in a locked game, would it be odd to pm one of the players who already joined and just ask for the password?
