2WL, I can agree with that if you're specifying that game and not the whole series. That seems to be what people remember it for, though Patrick "Monkey Face" Ewing's reaction when the final buzzer blew in the last game of the series is probably my favorite.

mapu, if you named THOSE, then you ignored the 2004 ALCS series. bucky Dent was ONE game, Mets was ONE game. That was 4, and down to the final out twice.

No, sory, 2004 ALCS, and as Putin mentioned, Houson Oilers collapse.

I remember that game very well, because I had $200 on it (and that was a lot of $$ to me then) and had houston +3 (check that line, I am sure it was 3) and I had thatmoney spent at half time....lol

I was adding new ones in addition to the ones mentioned. The subject of the thread is a plural "comebacks", not asking for only one.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
02 Nov 12 UTC
2004 ALCS is the greatest comeback in the three "American" sports (i.e Aerican football, basketball, baseball). Hockey has had some incredible comebacks of the same magnitude.

If you want a team, this year's Giants down 2-0 and 3-0 and winning the World Series was spectacular.
Stressedlines (1559 D)

i stand corrected.

Flyers over Bruins from 3-0 in series and 3-0 in game 7 also (made me sick a s a Bruins fan, but I can respect it).

The Houston Oiler vs Bills game was really a great one by Putin.
I would like to direct your attention to this article:-
http://football-talk.co.uk/69459/reading-v-arsenal-the-king-of-all-comebacks/
Not only for the comeback, but for the 12 (yes twelve!) goals scored in a single match!
NFL: Frank Reich leads the Buffalo Bills back from being down 35-3 over the Houston Oilers, 1992. Runner-up: "Monday Night Miracle" in 2000, Vinny Testaverde leads the New York Jets back over Dan Marino's Miami Dolphins from being down 30-7 in the 4th quarter.

College football: "The Play" in 1982, California Golden Bears comeback over John Elway's Stanford Cardinal involving five laterals on final play

College basketball: Jason Williams leads Duke's comeback against Maryland in 2001, down by 10 D with less than a minute to go

There was also the game with Reggie Miller of the Pacers, who scored like 8 D in the last 31 seconds I think, to beat the Knicks (maybe it wasnt them). I am sure it was reggie miller, but the other #s I am not sure about.
Mapu (362 D)

The best part of that was him getting in Spike Lee's face after every shot.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))

SL, I mentioned that earlier. 8 D in 9 seconds. I was pretty young but I still vaguely remember that game. Fuck Reggie Miller. Also the same series where Reggie made the "choke" sign towards Spike Lee.
Ohh, good call Stressed. Reggie "Knick Killer" Miller, 8 pts in 9 seconds to beat the Knicks in the 1995 semifinals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHFqBRLNZXU

Gunfighter, I love that Plano East-John Tyler game. I remember when it happened, the Sportscenter guys were like we can't stop watching this clip over and over again when we're off air. "God bless those kids. I'm sick. I think I'm going to throw up."
Pod Racing - Anakin Skywalker comeback against Sebulba in the Boonta Eve Podrace.

I almost feel that the Giants this year deserve a mention. Down 2 to 0 to win 3 straight and move on in the Division Championship, then down 3 to 1 to win 3 straight again to move on in the NLCS. Then turn around and crush the opposition in the World Series 4 straight to win it all. They were not expected to beat the Reds *or* the Cards (the two best teamsn in the NL, nay all of baseball this year) so to beat both as comeback kings and then crush the opposition in 4 straight? Yeah, comeback kings!
Draugnar (0 DX)

And how about Jesse Owens taking four gold medals at the 36 Berlin Olympics. Basically rubbing Hitler's "aryan superiority" and "black inferiority" right in Hitler's face.

I don't knwo if it was so much a comeback (America knew he was great already) but you gotta figure Germany had tried to stack the deck and he just couldn't be stopped.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
02 Nov 12 UTC
That Plano East game was awful. If they had covered that last kickoff, it would have gone down in history as the greatest American football comeback of all time. 28 D in 2:42? Ridiculous.

02 Nov 12 UTC
@Draug: Yeah, I touched on the Giants above. People seem to be bent on soccer and NFL comebacks. Baseball has some crazy comebacks of its own.

@2WL: I take it you are a Knicks fan? I have always found Reggie very competitive yet very likable. I'm probably biased since I went to the same gym that he and Ron Artest did for a number of years so I know them both pretty well.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
02 Nov 12 UTC
bo_sox, Reggie Miller is the king of all assholes. When I think "competitive yet very likable," I think Shaq. Reggie Miller is one of the most overrated players in NBA history, not just because he never won a championship, but he was always just a glorified role player in the same way that Ray Allen is not a star capable of leading a team to the finals. Miller only shined because the Eastern Conference was a vacuum after Jordan "retired" and he was able to take advantage of his one dimensional game.
Mapu (362 D)
02 Nov 12 UTC
Miller invented the kick out to draw a foul. That's got to count for something. And he's a really good announcer now.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
03 Nov 12 UTC
Wow 2WL, you didn't answer my question but I still know the answer. No Hall of Famer is overrated, that's for sure. In the words of Dan Devine (Yahoo Sports), "while the evil he did to people like me in the '90s isn't the full reason he's in Springfield, Mass., it sure as heck didn't hurt." That says it pretty well to me.

On offense, he was one dimensional. Nobody is denying that. But 2WL, I don't care how glorified someone is, there is NOBODY BESIDES MJ that has ever shown the clutch talent that Reggie showed. I can shoot down a "Kobe" argument any time, don't even think of saying that. If a few things went differently in Game 4 in 2000, Reggie would have had a big shot at winning a title. And, just so you know:

• Second all time in NBA history in 3-pointers both taken and made;

• Sixth all time in games played;

• Seventh all time in minutes played;

• Ninth all time in free-throw percentage, 12th in free throws made, 24th in free throws attempted;

• 17th on the all-time scoring list;

• 25th all time in field goals attempted, 27th in field goals made;

• Five All-Star appearances, which were not the easiest thing to come by at off-guard in the East during Jordan's era;

• Three All-NBA Third Team selections — behind first-teamers John Stockton and Penny Hardaway and second-teamers Gary Payton and Mitch Richmond in '94-95, Jordan/Penny and Payton/Stockton in '95-96, and MJ/Payton and the immortal Tim Hardaway-Rod Strickland combo in '97-98.

Go ahead. Give me a reason besides the fact that HE FUCKIN CRUSHED YOU DURING THE 90s to keep him out of the greatest ever to play.

Had a chance to explain American politics today
It was an interesting opportunity. It started with my coworker asking about the electoral college and evolved into a general question of how American politics works. Her reaction was mixed. I know we log on here every day and gripe about how our politics suck, but after my holistic explanation, I feel almost grateful we have politics to gripe about. Our problems really aren't that bad. (Unless Romney/ Ryan wins, jk! not really.)

In commemoration of a string of high-profile bans lately, I've created a game to celebrate. Don't play if you're a multi because the mods will be keeping close tabs on all of us I'm sure.
