How can we Prevent the Reverse Trickle Down Effect
Businesses have this awful habit of passing on increases in their taxes onto their customers, how can this be prevents. Are there certain forms of taxation that limit this effect? (Krellin et. all need not comment, I don't care about the arguments against taxation)

webDip Nomic 2.0
We had one of these a while back. Let's give it another try. More details inside the thread.
TBroadley (178 D)
29 Oct 12 UTC
Nomic is a game in which changing the rules is a move. The primary activity is proposing, debating, and voting for rule changes. The goal is to "win" - but that goal is rather poorly defined.

Many Nomic rulesets exist. I'll present a simple one below.

1. An active player is someone who has posted in this thread in the last day.
2. A motion is a proposed rule change set forth by an active player.
3. If a strict majority (>50%) of the active players vote for a motion, it becomes part of the ruleset.

Discussion of motions is definitely encouraged. Post your interest here and start proposing motions!

And I am an active player. Har har har.
I am not an active player.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))

I propose that only players whose usernames start with a number are allowed to win.
I vote against 2ndWhiteLine's motion while there are still only three people capable of voting.

I propose that all players must imagine an ongoing diplomacy board, and the controller of the country which manages to solo wins the game.

orathaic (1009 D(B))
29 Oct 12 UTC
also, i vote against Bo_SOx's proposal (and get my banhammer ready), and against 2nd white line's.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
29 Oct 12 UTC
List of votes:
1) I propose that only players whose usernames start with a number are allowed to win. [-2]
2) I vote that we allow multis. [0]
3) all players must imagine an ongoing diplomacy board, and the controller of the country which manages to solo wins the game. [1]

(votes counted for +1, against -1, abstain 0, for the purpose of determining which rules are currently in effect please copy and paste this list, a rule needs to have more than 50% of active players in favour, thus a positive number is required, 0 will not do)
TBroadley (178 D)
29 Oct 12 UTC
I vote for orathaic's proposal, and against proposals 1 and 2 in the post above.

A net system for counting votes isn't a good idea. We don't need all votes to come in - only four people must be in favour.

There are 7 active players.
1) I propose that only players whose usernames start with a number are allowed to win. [1 vote]
2) I vote that we allow multis. [2 votes]
3) all players must imagine an ongoing diplomacy board, and the controller of the country which manages to solo wins the game. [2 votes]

I propose that the following rule be added: "If an unpassed motion has not been voted upon in 12 hours, that motion is considered dead. Dead motions should not be listed with other active motions on any motions list."
jcbryan97 (134 D)

I move that you must have a number in your username to win, regardless of whether it begins with that number.
TBroadley (178 D)
29 Oct 12 UTC
I also propose that a system of currency be created. The unit of currency is the "white line". All players begin with one white line, except for 2WL who begins with 2. If a player accrues one million white lines, he wins all the marbles. There are exactly 77 marbles to be won - no more, no less.

Broadley, hold long before a proposal is no longer active? and will a player which is not active have their vote automatically removed?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
29 Oct 12 UTC
i vote for the proposed currency - as eludicated by TBroadley today at 06:50 PM
TBroadley (178 D)
29 Oct 12 UTC
I was proposing that after 12 hours a proposal becomes dead. I think that inactive players should have their votes removed so:

I propose that the following rule be added: "An inactive player is one who has not posted in at least one day. Votes from inactive players are not counted in vote tallies for motions."
I vote against bo_sox48's motion that we allow multis.

I vote against zelmoby's motion that a "win" be more clearly defined - say, x number of rules must be ratified, or perhaps something more challenging.

I vote against orathaic's motion that all players must imagine an ongoing diplomacy board, and the controller of the country which manages to solo wins the game.

I vot for TBroadley's motion that the following rule be added: "If an unpassed motion has not been voted upon in 12 hours, that motion is considered dead. Dead motions should not be listed with other active motions on any motions list."

I vote against jcbryan97's motion that you must have a number in your username to win, regardless of whether it begins with that number.

I vote against TBroadley's motion that a system of currency be created, etc.

I vote for TBroadley's motion that the following rule be added: "An inactive player is one who has not posted in at least one day. Votes from inactive players are not counted in vote tallies for motions."

I move that henceforth, all motions be numbered sequentially for ease of common reference.

i don't think you need a rule to number the proposals

you just need to start a convention, and people need to follow it.

the copy&paste which works for other forum things should work fine.

Good Night, webDip
Once again, you have so graciously deprived me of multiple necessary hours of sleep. I'll see you all for a live game during first period tomorrow. Hopefully none of Sarg's accounts will be involved. And maybe someone will bring some cupcakes by my house to make me feel better (Diplomat33, anyone?)!
