Morality
Here's a situation I ran across a few days ago and I wanted to know your guys opinions on whether it was immoral or not. remember, the question is not whether it's moral, but rather if it's immoral or neutral. And please explain why or why not. Read further:

Prove Yourself in World Gunboat
Hey guys, I'm loving the world diplomacy gunboat games I've been playing recently, and I'd like to get a good solid game going with high stakes for those interested. I started a game named same as this thread, and wanted to advertise the game here. I'm really hoping that the bannings that have happened recently in a few of the games I'm in have gotten rid of the cheaters, so that we can have a true anonymous gunboat game without any metagamers joining.

My shame.
Other than occasionally laughing at a fortress door joke. At pub trivia tonight I missed the first diplomacy question I've ever heard at a trivia night.

An elected European President
In another thread, I argued that the role of President of the European Council and the role of President of the European Commission (the EU's "government") should be merged and that this person should be elected by an EU-wide election.

Can anyone in Michigan explain the opposition to the new bridge?
From a Hoser's point of view, it seems like a no-brainer. Wondering if there's actually a reasonable explanation for the opposition. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/10/23/greedy-u-s-billionaire-urges-michigan-voters-to-reject-free-bridge-to-canada/

@Octavious - that mist that almost made you crash your car was yesterday's mist that just lingered for a bit and as such is not my responsiblity (I was on annual leave yesterday) however as you demand injustice here it is...

I hydroplaned this morning and nearly hit another girl from my school… guess all that cart drag racing paid off…
Draugnar (0 DX)
23 Oct 12 UTC
I would argue that the driver's ed *didn't* pay off or you wouldn't have been going to fast for the conditions. Hydroplaning requires enough speed for the tires to ride on top of the water instead of plowing through it.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 Oct 12 UTC
Yes Draug, because everyone that runs a red light, cuts someone off, or goes his typical 5 MPH over the speed limit in a drizzle is a fucking idiot as you probably yell at your windshield when it happens around you. Give them the finger when Jay Z or Kanye is blaring in the car next to you at a stop light. That seems like you.

Anyway, had you asked, you'd have probably figured out that I was actually braking when it happened. I drive a truck whose brakes are probably not suited to be forced to stop for people that don't use a turn signal in the rain. I don't drive a rich man's car with really nice brakes and a chassis with the neon on the suspension underneath.

And, again if you'd asked, it is actually even within your limits, you oh so perfect man whose archetypal figure could be imitated only by God himself, to do something a little stupid while driving.

I'm glad you're so perfect as to criticize me for knowing how to save a sideways truck. Most 16-year-olds don't.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Insult all ypu like. I drive a simple Jeep Liberty. It isn't fancy and I don't care much what people around me.listen to or how loud as I usually have Rush or Aerosmith cranked up myself. All I said was you were clearly going to fast for conditions. 5 miles over the speed limit in a drizzle is too fast for the conditions. An experienced driver (say 30 years experience) knows that a drizzle brings out the oils in the pavement without washing them away and that you need to be extra careful and well below the speed limit to maintain control. You just said you are 16 so you have been driving less that 18 months. I have 20 times that experience driving in everything from torential rain to 3 feet of snow and serious ice storms. Instead of taking pride in not wrecking, take a lesson from what got.you into the situation to begin with.

Oh and running a red light is a recipe for death and disaster. Please don't do it as I'd like to see you here on the forums, not read about how bo_sox blew his mind out in a car because he hadn't noticed that the light had changed.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 Oct 12 UTC
Yeah Draug, I'm totally celebrating over not wrecking. All I did was say "Hey, this happened today" and you come on here and start telling me I'm a bad driver? Honestly, how do you have any idea what my driving style is? Do you know me? Do you stalk me? Did you rape me in my sleep once and put a webcam in my bedroom so you can watch me 24/7?I've driven carts and sprints at over 130 MPH and trust me, they don't just let you do that for kicks. If I didn't know how to maneuver and how to drive safely, I'd never have done that. I passed my driving test, and at that point, I'm as legal and as high on the list of honorary drivers as you are.

I drive pretty damn slow compared to most people around me. I don't accelerate at more than 2000 RPM… part of my OCD kicks in. I brake earlier than most people. I follow school zones… sounds like a hard thing to do but nobody does around here. You can point out whatever cute flaws you want about people but it doesn't make them bad at anything.

Tell you what.. next time I fail an AP class test I'll come on here and let you know and you can tell me for the rest of my time on this site that my education has been a complete failure because I something happened one time. You wouldn't insult me if I'd gotten in a wreck and been hurt, so why when I don't?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 Oct 12 UTC
Yeah, I run red lights. It's fun. Of course I don't run red lights, Draug.. nobody does. I've seen people get t-boned running red lights before. Figure-8 racing is fun but not that fun.

To all young and impressionable Brits reading this... Driving on the pavements is WRONG! Draug knows not what he says :p

@bo_sox - You came on here bragging about using a skill you wouldn't have needed to use if more care had been taken. I'm not insulting your overall skill. I'm just saying that in this instance you should perhaps learn from the mistale rather than boasting about your awesome prowess. And for what it's worth I have driven a Corvette at over 170 MPH at both Mid-America and Kentucky Speedway. But a Corvette is a very different vehicle from a Jeep Liberty and they handle very differently. Your truck is very different from a cart and handles very differently. Again, I am not trying to insult your overall driving. Just pointing out that bragging about survivng a situation unharmed that you should never have gotten into to begin with is not learning from the experience.

Let me ask one simple question... Would you have rearended the other car without your so called skills? If so, consider yourself lucky you didn't because you might have lost your license to drive or at the least, being 16 had it suspended while you went through DDC.

And no, you don't carry the same level on the honorary drivers list as your license will have certain restrictions depending on your state that mine doesn't which may include a maximum number of occupants or a driving curfew and your insurance company charges significantly more for you, a 16 year old, to have coverage than they do me, a 46 year old married man. Why? Because I am.consider more mature and responsible and higher on that honorary list of yours.

Finally, a better analogy would be if you came on here and bragged about how you managed to get an A on a paper by using Cliff's Notes about some book despite never having read it.

To quote the old dude in Jurassic Park - "I don't blame.people.for their mistakes, but I do ask for them to pay for them.". All I ask is you pay for this mistake by learning from it instead of bragging about it.

For what it is worth, bo_sox, I may have read in the past but didn't consciously realize you were sixteen when I responded to your first post. Bit I do hope you will take this as am educational experience about speed and damp/oily/slick pavement. Next time.you may not be so lucky. A true hydroplane will not be accounted for and corrected from.the driver's seat. The wheels are on water and braking or accelerating or.letting off the gas will not alter the motion of the vehicle. Simple physics will bear that out. And a drizzle won't result in hydroplaning because the water generally needs to be deeper than the tread depth, so unless you are running racing slicks or very bald tires, it was probably surface oil that hadn't washed away makong.it slick. Nometheless, there is still an element of chance in it as racing on a track involves other racers of moderate skill as well. But your other drivers on a public street may be far more unpredictable.

@celticfox - no i don't cover northern cali - find someone else to sue.

Today I'll be sending some cargo by ship and a shipment by car, only in the UK or do my American cousins also do this?

Back to the weather - it'll probably get dark before morning; but in some areas probably not. For more detail look out the freaking window you idle b*stards

It's probably a dumb idea, but I'll propose it anyway. A "Repeat Last Turns' Orders" button would be useful when you have a lot of units, it is towards the end of the game, and you are simply support holding across the map for a couple of turns, waiting for a draw.

Mitt Romney: The 45th President
Polls and common sense are now showing that Romney will win. From the states that Obama carried in 2008, Romney has three: Indiana, North Carolina, Florida; completely locked up. He is ahead in Virginia, Colorado, and New Hampshire, and within the margin of error in Iowa, Wisconsin, Nevada, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, all the states that went for the GOP in 2008 are Solid Romney. With 2 weeks left, Romney is in an increasingly strong position to take the White House.
