The 2WL Economic System Power Rankings (2012 edition)
1. Capitalism - has been on a losing streak as of late with rumblings of a managerial change in the clubhouse, but continued clutch hitting and home field advantage means that capitalism has the advantage heading into the playoffs.
2. Socialism (Canada) - the Moneyball of economic systems. Has much in common with the capitalism of its neighbors to the south, but its dual language communication system often results in confusion when trying to reach the bullpen.
3. Socialism (Europe) - swept the senior circuit this year because of a healthy pitching rotation. Great training staff, but fan turnout was sparse due to high ticket prices. Some fans revolted, costing the team points.
4. Pirates - a good example of a team with a high BABIP (batting average on balls in play), indicating an economic system outperforming in relation to the mean. In the pirates' case, the mean is zero, but much like the NY Jets, the media has overhyped this system.
5. Communism - the Dallas Cowboys of economics. Strong performances in the eighties and early nineties, but has yet to see a playoff victory since. A stubborn refusal to participate in free agency leaves this team lacking.
6. National Socialism - the much maligned "Evil Empire" of economic systems, National Socialists often have a strong start to the season, but fade in the stretch.
7. Barter economy - the perennial basement dweller in the Power Rankings. Sure, this team was great in the dead ball era, but a team simply cannot pay its players in bread and fish and expect them to perform.
Stay tuned for the postseason edition of the ESPRs.
