yeah see actually one of the reasons i originally became interested in africa is that more "newsworthy" stuff happens there than almost anywhere, accompanied by the paradox that nearly none of it makes the top news.

example from this week:

-coup in mali
-intelligence chief in guinea-bissau assassinated
-al-shabab took a somali town and was later driven out by ethiopian troops
-mortars and car bombings in mogadishu
-ethiopia attacked rebel camps inside of eritrea stoking fears of renewed war
-boko haram walked out of talks with nigerian government

well there are the places i go for this job and then there is the shit i read on my own. there is some overlap but there are certain sources i wouldnt use in my report, even though i find reading them interesting and thought-provoking.

perfect example is pravda or xinhua. i read them, but would not cite them, because this is an american company. lol.

but bbc has good africa news. al-jazeera always has interesting analysis. for texas i read the texas tribune, and for national news i read the Center for Public Integrity (iwatchnews.org)

there is also of course the economist, and for like really breaking stuff AP and twitter. lol. good old twitter and tumblr. NPR at the gym obviously

Le Monde if you can read French, i used to read jeune afrique too.

and PM news from nigeria is pretty good actually.
