So lets recap.

United States vs Europe in the sovereign debt crisis- Europe loses
United States vs Europe in standard of living- Europe loses
United States vs Europe in life expectancy-Europe loses
United States vs Europe military strength-Europe loses
United States vs Europe Genocide-Europe wins going away ( most genocides on the planet)
United States vs Europe World Wars- Europe again wins going away
United States vs Europe Murderous dictators- Europe is unrivaled-Hitler & Stalin
United States vs Europe Free Speech- Europe loses
United States vs Europe personal freedom-Europe loses
United States vs Europe economic power-Europe loses

What explains Europe's horrific performance in comparison to the United States?

Europe's century of Socialist failure.
"United States vs Europe in life expectancy-Europe loses"

No I think we clearly established that USA has lower life expectancy.
"United States vs Europe World Wars- Europe again wins going away"

This is a draw, USA was involved in both. Herp derp.
"United States vs Europe economic power-Europe loses"

USA recently fell behind when it decided to rack up so much debt it's falling apart. You've even mentioned it plenty of times when attacking Obama. Also, seeing as you're attacking EU as a continent, the entirety of EU has more economic power, simply because it is larger. Herp derp once again.

An example of how invasive European socialism is.
I used to send clients in Britain gifts for Christmas until they told me that they have to pay a gift tax at the post office when they pick up the gifts.
My God, how pathetic.
The socialists tax Christmas gifts.
No one ever said that socialists had a heart.
International Postal services aren't going to be free, you know...

Did it occur to TC that PPP doesn't take into account all the things people don't have to spend money on in Sweden that they do in the USA (ahem - like healthcare), ? And what of that child poverty and maternal mortality rate? Explain the 22% vs 2% figure. Explain the skyhigh maternal death rate and maternal near miss rate. Explain the kidney transplant issue.

TC - there is no gift tax at UK Post Offices. If your going to rant, please stick to the truth
He's probably talking about regular postal taxes, and he's assuming they don't apply to christmas gifts for some reason.

I'm pretty sure he gets his information from paranoid rightwing blogs and nowhere else, so don't expect fact checking. All of his "arguments" always seem to be plagiarized from some bizarro blog.
No, he gets it from "reliable" sources, like Conservapedia.

"It's not really TC's ranking system, it's PPP (purchasing power parity)"

PPP is sometimes hard to measure, because the purchasing power depends on a number of things, including what goods are available...

but anyway, a measure which has been used is the big mac measure, because the cost of a big mac in any given country depends on local wages, logistical costs of getting the ingredients into place and varous other factors which can give an indication of the relative economic situation in a country. (though apparently some countries artificially in/deflate the cost of big macs to throw the statistics, notably argentina)
I'm guessing the more expensive the big mac is the better, because if it were the other way around, again developing countries would soar ahead of the rest.

@ Shock Trooper: I believe the world war vs was refering to who started them, and European powers were the contenders at the start of both.

Did TC forget about the Pacific Theater? I guess America had nothing to do with starting that, or the countless "police actions" which killed millions and "murderous dictators" it helped prop up, like TC's pal Pinochet whom he has defended over and over again. And Europe is a continent with many countries, North America has a couple. What a dumb argument.

on the anti socialism side did anybody explain the impossibility of calculation under socialism?

'I'm guessing the more expensive the big mac is the better, because if it were the other way around, again developing countries would soar ahead of the rest.'

no, i think the point is, a big mac, ie what you get for your money, is the same no matter how much you have to pay. Thus how much your money is worth can be measured in terms of the number of big macs they are worth.

So you can look at something like the number of big macs per hour you earn (on average), and the better off countries can probably earn more big macs per hour, even if their big macs are more expensive...

'the impossibility of calculation under socialism'

nope, what is the impossibility of calculation?

:) it's great to see what some americans consider to be "socialism".
many people in the EU believe the current situation here is way way too neo-liberal. same time, what they wish is far from what we might consider "socialism" here.
there's something in between, and that's where the sweetspot lies.

It is the argument that without a pricing mechanism (which would not exist under socialism) there is no way to make rational econoic calculation. There was a debate regarding this in economics for a while. The main point is this: if you are talking about actual socialism for the whole world there is not a mechanism for economic calculation. An example of this problem would be nails of only a single size being produced in the USSR. For any one interested here is a link that covers the basics.

Narcolepsy
Has anyone on WebDip been diagnosed? How are you treating yours? Most importantly, how do you explain it to others so they'll take it as seriously as it should be? I dunno why I've never asked this before, but I just realised I've never met anyone else with Narcolepsy and am suddenly curious.
