100 point game anyone?
I found that I have run out of games on this site. I have only one game going on, and I am already eliminated in that... so, Is anyone interested in a 100 point ancient med? 24-36 hour phases, depending on what those playing want, PPSC or WTA, whichever those who play want... so, whoever wants in, let me know.

Hotel Info for FTF-Boston
Here's what I've found on hotels so far. No one preferred to be in the burbs. So be prepared to spend some real money or share a room.

cheapest option may be Hostel Intl http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostel060002.en.htm

B&B’s seem to be approximately the same price as hotel rooms:
http://www.parksidebb.com/policies.html
http://irvinghouse.com/accommodations/single-shared-bath/
http://www.463beacon.com/index.html

Here’s what MIT recommends:
http://web.mit.edu/visit/hotels.html

Scouting around on the internet then, I came up with these options as some of the least expensive (in no particular order):
1.Kendall hotel-very convenient location about $200 per nite
2.. I’ve never booked on Hotwire but its coming up with a 4* hotel in Cambridge for $92 per night for June 10 and 11, which sounds worth doing. Same price of $92 is coming up for special unnamed hotel on Expedia.
3.. Lemeridien.com $146 per nite, decent location 1 subway stop from Kendall or about a 10 minute walk
4.. Hyatt- beautiful hotel on river, 1 minute walk, offering special deal for $169 per nite
5.. Milner Hotel $116 per nite, very basic http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/milner-b-boston-massachusettes.html?&checkin=2011-06-10&checkout=2011-06-12&selected_currency=USD&lang=en&aid=315281

General advice-Try to get something near a subway ("T") station or within a 10 minute walk to MIT

The Hyatt is *not* a 1 minute walk from the tournament venue. It's actually a little over a mile away, since it is located on the westernmost end of the MIT campus. The venue is near the eastern end of the MIT campus, which is a long narrow stretch along the river.

Crazyter did a good job of digging up some info. If you are looking for lodging, her links would be a great way to start.

By the way, I'm a local, so feel free to ask me any general questions about the city, such as about transport, etc. I don't know much about the quality of the hotels, but I have a good sense of where they are and how convenient they would be with respect to the venue.

I'm so excited that this tournament is happening in my city! Thanks to all of the organizers!

I am coming from Canada, so I will be coming down the I-93. I found a couple of hotels about 40 min North of Boston (according to Google maps) that are in the $60/night range. Being from the Big country of Canada a 40 min drive does not seam to be that long to save $60/night.

yebellz - which of the hotels on that list is the closest to the venue?

The Kendall Hotel and the Cambridge Marriott are the two closest hotels. Both are basically right on the Kendall Square T stop and are about a quarter mile from the venue (Sky Room, 100 Memorial Drive, Cambridge).

The Kendall Hotel is small hotel. The Cambridge Marriott is quite large and has a parking garage for its guests.

Joey,

Please keep a couple things in mind:

1) The tourney starts early and ends late. If you've never played F2F games before, you may be surprised how physically and mentally demanding they are. You may wish you were asleep instead of commuting to the tourney.

2) 40 min will easily turn into 1 1/2 hours, especially in the morning, as we start at the end of rush hour.

3) Parking and driving in Boston is just an enormous pain. Save for hotels, I don't even know how close the nearest reliable parking lot is. I do know it will be a fortune though.

To everyone, I'd highly recommend getting a hotel within walking/T distance of the event.

@abge, joey1, there is also a public parking garage in the Kendall Sq area. I don't know what the rates are, but I expect between $10-$20 for a full day of parking.

Another option is driving to the Alewife T station, parking there for the day at $6 or $7 per day and taking the T down to Kendall. Alewife is north of Boston. How convenient it is to get to depends on where you end up staying.

Le Meriden is just south east of Central Sq. That area has some restaurants and bars. If you stay there, the easiest commute would be to simply walk, and that would be about 10-15 minutes (a little under a mile). It would not be worth it to walk backwards to the Central Sq T stop and then take it only one stop to Kendall.

The Hyatt is an even further walk than Le Meridian (a little over a mile) and it's located in a somewhat bland part of the town. It's mostly just MIT dorms and some companies in that area. So it's not too convenient for restaurants and pubs.

Does Boston have Rush hour even on weekends? In Ottawa and Toronto, weekend mornings are the one time when the traffic is fairly light.

To be honest, 9:30 AM is not really early for me, I'm usually already been at work for 90 min by then.

@yebellz-sorry about the typo-I meant to write 10 minute walk, I think though that could have been optimistic, maybe it is a 15 minute walk

***ATTENTION COMMUTERS***
@joey-I think you could commute down 93 pretty quickly on weekend mornings. I will be commuting in myself but from Rt 2.

There is a slight possibility of getting free parking Saturday but dont count on it. Sunday you can park at the meters and they are free. DO NOT use meters on Saturday because they expire every hour or 2 and you wont have time to feed them in the middle of a fast paced tourney.

The biggest problem is getting lost!! Be sure to have a good GPS or an excellent map at least.

FYI Location of Venue
(and I will post this again right before the torunament, but for those of you trying to plan now, here it is)

The official address is 100 Memorial Drive. However, the entrance is at the corner of Amherst St and Carleton St. This is the entrance for cars and pedestrians both. From the Kendall T stop, be sure to exit onto Main Street and turn right at Carleton Street (Rebeccas' Cafe?), walk 1 block to Amherst Street and its the large building across the street and directly in front of you.

I'm Catholic and I like to go to mass on Sundays. Does any Boston local know of either a very early Sunday mass or a Sunday evening mass in the area? If not I can check masstimes.org, but I prefer local recommendations.

obiwanobiwan, what is so great about Plato?
I have taken two philosophy courses which included reading "The Republic" as well as discussions about Plato and I can't remember anything significant about him. I can remember some of his ideas about what would make a good society and his analogy of the cave but I don't see why that makes him a great writer/philosopher. I am not saying he isn't, I was just wondering if you could explain why he is.

EOG Gunboat Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry-5
I just wanted to start the EOG thread by saying what a fantastic game! That was so thrilling, I really enjoyed it. IKE you played a great game as Germany and I'm surprised you offered to draw and end the game - I think you could have pushed on and taken a win. Great game guys, I look forward to reading the EOGs.

World Diplomacy Glitch
Some of my orders won't save. I'm a 31 center China in the World variant, and when I try to convoy an army via a couple of fleets, the website asks me to "stop running the script" and gives me a "Parameter 'toTerrID' set to invalid value '82'" message--it won't let me save the orders or choose "ready" as an option.

Anybody know a way around this glitch?
