100 point game anyone?
I found that I have run out of games on this site. I have only one game going on, and I am already eliminated in that... so, Is anyone interested in a 100 point ancient med? 24-36 hour phases, depending on what those playing want, PPSC or WTA, whichever those who play want... so, whoever wants in, let me know.

orathaic: "Thus the negative effects, (like encouraging people to spend their savings) are more signifigant."

elmuro: Negative effect? This is a positive effect!!! When people spend their saving demand raises. This means there is more need for supply. And this would mean the government has to spend more Social programms.

Savings are the source of credit. In order for some people to borrow other people have to save. If no one saved then the only source of credit would be printing more money, and this just devalues everyone's money. Charging interest on borrowed money is necessary, firstly to cover potential losses for the lender (not all the money will be repaid), and to provide an incentive for the lender (ultimately the saver) to lend money in the first place. Furthermore interest encourages the money to be invested in something productive, that is, will provide a return greater than the interest charged.

" In order for some people to borrow other people have to save."

factually, if we have a fiat currency, the government can declare money to exist and then go about lending it to someone, creating debt without a corresponding credit.

I am aware of that. But is something I don't think I fully understand. I would be interested to know what the ratio of credit created by printing, and credit created by savings typically is. Certainly we need savings, but to what extent I am not sure.

the banks have the facility to create credit without waiting for the government to declare a fiat currency.

Without it being limited or regulated by the Fed (self-regulation) where the assumption was made the banks - not wanting to lose out - would only lend sensibly.

Elmurro, the supply of "infrastructure projects" would increase but not the other goods and services in society. The prices of these other goods and services would rise.

-> these prices woudlnt rise. Because infrastruce is free, and with better infrastructre costs for producing goods sink. You see, the prices for other goods would rise and sink together. (no inflation, no deflation)

Savings are the source of credit.
-> I have to correct orathaic. We do have a fiat currency, but the government cant declare money to exist. Only the FED can. (Which acutaly isnt a governmental instituion, like already discussed the FED is independend) And comercial banks do when you pay with your credit card create money out of nothing because this kind of credit isnt covered. The bank covers the money with the trust that the bank will be able to pay it when necesary.

Good example: You have a credit card at bank of america, and the shop you buy something for 1000$ got a bank of america account. Now the bank simply creates a 1000$ debt on your account, and the account of the shop will increase by 1000$.
We have brand new money. in this case, there is no need for savings of some people.
I hope you see the crooked way banks screw the people.

obiwanobiwan, what is so great about Plato?
I have taken two philosophy courses which included reading "The Republic" as well as discussions about Plato and I can't remember anything significant about him. I can remember some of his ideas about what would make a good society and his analogy of the cave but I don't see why that makes him a great writer/philosopher. I am not saying he isn't, I was just wondering if you could explain why he is.

EOG Gunboat Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry-5
I just wanted to start the EOG thread by saying what a fantastic game! That was so thrilling, I really enjoyed it. IKE you played a great game as Germany and I'm surprised you offered to draw and end the game - I think you could have pushed on and taken a win. Great game guys, I look forward to reading the EOGs.

World Diplomacy Glitch
Some of my orders won't save. I'm a 31 center China in the World variant, and when I try to convoy an army via a couple of fleets, the website asks me to "stop running the script" and gives me a "Parameter 'toTerrID' set to invalid value '82'" message--it won't let me save the orders or choose "ready" as an option.

Anybody know a way around this glitch?
