You-Create-It: The Greatest Band EVER!
Simple enough: 1. Take any members or solo artists and bring them together to form what YOU think would make the best band ever 2. Band size of 5, with a 1 bass, 1 drummer, at least 2 guitarists, and then the 5th slot can be for whatever, another guitarist, a piano player, lead singer, etc., and at least 3 out of the 5 must be able to sing 3. Give your band a name 4. Give the title of at 5 songs that band "released," at least 1 with lyrics, 6 Rock on! :)

Nice idea, but Obi why do you need to be always so strict with your posts ? How can one make the greatest Dubstep band with such restrictions? Why not say 5 members, and give reasons why you think they'd be so great (which would allow the bands that 3 members could sing ala The Beatles shine) so im afraid Im going to ignore your instrument fascism and go with
Kayne West- ego, artistic bravado and showmanship(and producer)
Lady Gaga- piano, singer, pop song writer par excellence (yeah thats right Obi GAGA!)
Nick McCabe - guitarist from The Verve (sorry , dont know many guitarist, but I like the Verve so he got the job.
Muscular Teeth (coz he is my cousin and I wish him all the best in his music career )
lmao, Lady Gaga

Why do three of the members need to be able to sing?

Lots of bands just have one singer.

Band Members:

Bass/Vocals: Paul McCartney (Beatles...I REFUSE to list him for Wings!) :p
Drums: Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones)
Lead Guitar/Vocals: Jimi Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix Experience)
Rhythmic Guitar/Vocals/Piano: John Lennon (Beatles)
Lead Singer: Freddie Mercury (Queen)

On my picks:

-Bass: Easiest one to pick...Sir Paul, great bassist and songwriter, and as I already knew I'd want Lennon for the band, this made even more sense and just had to be done, the Laurel and Hardy of the rock scene and musically a modern-day G&S songwriting partnership, there may be other good bassists, but Paul's one of the best, his songwriting ability puts him over the top, and then the fact his being in the band would ressurect Lennon/McCartney just puts an extra layer of icing on the cake.

Drums: I actually had a hard time with this, as drummers are often the equivalent of baseball catchers or American football offensive linemen, that is, in the background compared to their teammates, er, bandmates. As much as I really like the guy and DO think he's a good drummer, and the best drummer the best band ever could have had, I just couldn't pick Ringo; having three out of four Beatles would cease the band being an All-Star band of sorts and just make it a Beatles reunion, which...well, would be amazing as well, but not the purpose of the thread, and bringing in John, Paul and Ringo would seem rather cruel to poor, quiet George. In addition, while he definitely shines through and has a lot of great material with them, and after them, Ringo's beats ARE a bit simple sometimes, which is, again, why he was perfect for The Beatles, as let's face it--when you have two huge egos in John and Paul at it, and then later the added prowess of George, that's already a VERY crowded stage, you need that other guy to be able to punctuate your notes and take the back seat often, not steal the spotlight. And stealing the spotlight is also why big-name drummers like Neil Peart aren't on here, Joh and Paul ALONE will take a ton of the spotlight, can't have the band explode. So while it isn't odd a Rolling Stone is on here, it IS a bit odd at first to see it's Charlie and not Mick or maybe Keith...but Charlie Watts, I felt, would be great for this batch--he can take the back seat like Ringo, he has great talent and ranks up there, and his longevity put him over the top for me.

Lead Guitar: Second-easiest to pick; George Harrison was great but, again, this isn't an all-Beatles-fest, and Keith Richards and a couple others drew consideration, but ultimately I felt it had to go to the legend that is Mr. Jimi.

-Rhythmic Guitar/Vocals/Piano: As you can see this spot's sort of a jack-of-all-trades position. I wanted a piano player in there, which of course Paul is, but we need him on bass. :) Ultimately, though, this spot had to go to John as much as Pual had to get the bass--John was good on a piano, was a great songwriter (I would argue Lennon/McCartney is the greatest songwriting team in the history of the genre, and there is definitely a boatload of evidence to support that), could sing, play guitar...and he's JOHN LENNON. I understand that not everyone here likes him, which is understandable, but as The Beatles, The Stones, and Elvis are probably the three biggest musical acts in the history of rock (I suppose throw in Queen and it's an even four, since I always have a thing for fours it seems) and John is arguably the most famous and influential musically of the Fab Four, I went with him. One note: Some might wonder, since I mentioned him--why not ELVIS? I just said he was one of the titans of the genre, hell...he's CALLED "The King," after all, so why not? Three reasons: 1. Elvis infamously remarked that he wanted the Beatles kicked out of the US, or thought that they should be, and THAT would make for some bad band chemistry and karma 2. As good as he is solo I just can't picture him working in a band or as well in a band, and I don't know if his style of rock is really compatible with the others here, and 3. IT'S JOHN LENNON! ;)

-Lead Singer: This was agonizing...Mick Jagger or Freddie Mercury? There are other vocalists, maybe, but these two are legendary. I could go either way on this, and really my two deciding points were 1. Having Mick would make most of this group Beatles or Stones, and with Jimi the other one that's really over-representing the 1960s for this, great as that decade was for the genre, arguably the greatest ever (though the 1980s are probably tied for that honor, and the 1970s were none too bad, either) and 2. I actually like Freddie as a singer a bit better, Mick's good but that sort of scream-singing he does...I HATE THAT with just about any other singer who relies on that (see: Aerosmith) but it DOES work well for Mick, but Freddie just seemed the better singer and someone who could inject another era of rock into this group that's largely a generation before that...it was the single most difficult choice for me, almost like a coin flip, and maybe Mick can stop by as a geust star occaisionally. ;)

@requirements thing:

Yeah, looking back a bit odd...

I'm not trying to sound facist, just didn't want like all guitars and no drums or bass, but in retrospect, a poorly-thought-out requirements list brought on by a week of reading all those damn requirements for finals (double-space this, MLA that, put your answer on THIS line, show your work...GAH! Thank God that's over...well, I technically have one more paper to do, but it's just an English one due in a few hours, it'll take two seconds--thesis, examine the characters, go over the themes and analyze them with tons of bullshit, throw in some Shakespeare, and cook for fifteen minutes or until hot, serves 12.) :p

@Jamiet99uk:

I dunno, I guess I just figured that if these are the all-time best, most should be able to sing, but maybe that's my bias from liking the Beatles as much as I do as well as Queena nd the Stones, as much as they have lead singers (and GREAT ones) the other members could sing, too, except the drummers, so just figured...

Again, lack of sleep due to finals, but now I'm off, meaning break time, and more time for my job and for WebDip (yay, more games and more posts, I KNOW everyone's excited about that! And I caught that Lady Gaga reference, LOL...bah, I won't bite the troll bait...

I'll just say John Lennon puking up lyrics while fully wasted is better...on his worst day he's better...

Hell, YOKO is...no, no, even I can't go THAT far...) XD

Seriously, out of Lennon/McCartney/Hendrix not one of them got a repeat vote? (Freddie got one, though...)
purpleriot (574 D)

Yeah, I agree that the restrictions are too extreme, though I can understand your reasoning. Anyway, I'll just stitch something together now, not really based on the guidelines:

Drums/backing vocals: Dave Grohl (Nirvana)
Lead guitar: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
Secondary guitar/keyboards/backing vocals/anything else needing done: Steven Drozd (The Flaming Lips)
Lead vocals/bass guitar/piano: Paul McCartney (The Beatles)

I imagine this band having a psychedelic-tinged, fairly heavy rock sound. Dave Grohl and Steven Drozd can provide backing vocals at different times, the former more suitable for rockier songs and the latter for softer and more experimental music. In theory, they can also switch drum duties and Steven and Paul can switch bass duties if necessary.

I've only mentioned only one previous band for each member because that's what I'm thinking of particularly when choosing them.

Bass: Roger Waters
Vocals: Sting (would agree with Freddie Mercury, but he is dead)
Keyboard: Geddy Lee (can also cover Rhythm Guitar when then next two are jamming together)

P.S. This group could actually be assembled as all of them are alive and still playing.

I would go for a lot of the same guys already listed, but I'll try to pick band members who haven't been picked yet:

Drums: Stewart Copeland (I could listen to most Police songs if the vocal and guitar tracks were removed!)
Bass: J.J. Burnel (some iconic bass lines in Stranglers songs)
Rhythm Guitar: Joe Strummer
Lead Guitar: Carlos Santana
Vocals: Debbie Harry

Heavy Brit/punk influence from the back-of-the-stage crew so Santana and Harry are there to mix it up a bit (OK, admittedly Debbie's a bit punk!).

LOL mapleleaf...

I'd say "Who's the bigger attention whore, the attention whore posting the thread or the attention whore who comes onto the thread solely to call attention to himself to decry someone else as an attention whore?"

But I've already said that...numerous times...in other posts...

And don't you just HATE IT when people repeat themselves like that?

Honestly, anyone who repeats themselves and likes to stir the pot and talk his ass off should be struck down by ligh--*!*

Pre-recorded before that freakishly-out-of-nowhere-lightning-bolt:

@Draugnar:

I understood you were going for an all-living band, I was just saying you could have picked the dead too, that with my too-long-list of laws (isn't alliteration fun?) keeping dead folks out wasn't one of them.

Actually, looking at that list, there's a rule #1, 2, 3, 4...6???

...

I'd facepalm, but hey, who needs 5, and my math final is over anyway...though if that's how I count I might end up taking that same final again next semester...oh shit, lol...)

Jumped into a couple of games (hopefully) and will play those out whatever else happens. Nothing worse than a game unbalanced by NMRs.

Rich + Tax Cuts= More Jobs For Average Americans...What's The WORK On That Equation?
So, if I understand correctly, the Bush tax cuts will be extended now, with the GOP holding to the trickle-down theory from Reaganomics and saying tax cuts from the rich will lead to jobs for the average and poorer Americans. Now, numbers and I? We do NOT get along. Math and I? We've been feuding since Day 1 of preschool. So BEFORE I say this is just the rich getting richer--anyone on good terms with Mr. Math care to explain? Maybe I just calculated Rich+Tax Cuts=Richer Rich incorrectly?
