I don't know LJTD. We've played once, and you quit in that game. How were you able to quit/CD and have it recorded as a defeat instead of a resign? I still haven't figured out how you managed that.

The only possible answer is that he logged back into the game just before the turn processed in which he was defeated.

@trip - if he came back for the very last phase, he comes off the resigned/left list.

I thought people who CD'd used to get a "defeated" instead of a "left" if no one took them over.

I agree Draugnar. I'd rather lose points playing good games than go point farming.

With all my anonymous moderate to high point games going, I'm probably playing enough anyhow.

Honestly, I'd like to see points phased out. They're indicative of nothing and seriously promote metagaming. I'd much rather see some modifications to GR and have that be the standard for games.

This is how it could work

Instead of betting "points" you'd have a minimum GR needed to play. If I wanted only high caliber, I could set the game to "100," so only people above 100 could join. If I didn't care, I could do "1000." There would need to be minor adjustments to the GR. For instance, the end would have to tapper off at some point, so we didn't have people with a GR of greater than 9000.

In fact, trip, this way would make MORE new players be able to play high caliber games, not fewer.

So set up the system so that new games can be created with a minimum and maximum either Rating range or Rank range. Then noobs could start games that allowed everyone or top ranked players could set up games that only allowed the top N players or even games like this where you set it to allow for Rank 250-400 or something like that.

As a perfect example. Both hellalt and Draug have no points. yet, they don't CD, are active members, and both have decent GR. So, why should they be punished for not trying to game the system to get the most points?

And then, when someone from FB, or PBeM came along, they wouldn't have to spend their first months wading through BS games. They could just be like, "Hey! I promise I'm good, let me in.'

After time, I think this would actually increase the accuracy of GR as well.

When Dan joins, there will only be 6 players in, so one of the above hasn't made it yet. I'll give whoever it is about 17hrs, roughly around the time that I'll be rising from my evening slumber, to get in there.

@ trip - You're talking about one game that not only had I lost interest in, but I CD'd in only because I temporarily left the site... Because I had SURGERY. I had intended to try and finish my games before I had it, but that didn't work out, and then I figured I'd still be able to play, but morphine isn't as conducive as one would think to playing Diplomacy. Look at my stats, one game resigned out of close to 70. Regardless your game is filled so it's too late, guess I'll have to kick your ass another time.

@ LJTD: Really? You're pissed at me becuase I didn't guess that you had to quit because of surgery? How exactly was I supposed to know that? Maybe I'm crazy, but when people quit when things stop going their way, I assume they quit because things stopped going their way. Little did I know, it's been surgery the whole time.

Well look at my ratios. I have one resign out of about 70 games, so clearly it's not a common thing. In fact my only resign was in a live game.

It's obvious that you aren't a regular quitter, LJ, and I didn't intend to infer that. It was simply that one game, but I'm hesitant to have someone join a new game, who CD'd in their only other game with me. That being said, if I CD'd in a game and someone called me out on it, I'd apologize for doing so, not get angry at them because they didn't know why I left.
