map-symbol question

What does a black star mean when a unit gets created? Why is it there versus a yellow star? For instance, in this game:

There are some new features:
1. Bearnstien's games have been removed.
2. Players who haven't finished a game in 3 months have been removed from the current ratings list.
3. Gunboats and Public Press are now less heavily weighted
4. Map variants are included, with a low weighting

Wow, I cracked the top 50 (49!) I think that's the highest I've ever been! Must have been the changes you made Ghost because I don't think I've won any games this month :P

what do the last 3 columns means?
Also, I have the impression something drastically changed in the way the GR are calculated.
I can't explain otherwise how a friend of mine with 5 defeats in 5 games is ranked 687th :P

My win,defeat,survived,draw.Percetages have remained the same yet I keep dropping in GR each month.Does the new weighting systen for gunboat and public press effect my GR that much.If so I better start playing more press games.

I have the impression that whoever is actually playing games loses points while if you play only with top100 players even a defeat will you give you a boost. So, maybe I should avoid playing that live gunboat game now cause chances are that even with a draw I will lose points.

maybe no more anon games.Only games where you can see who's in it and check there GR out before entering it.This way even a bad game game can result in a upward swing in GR.

yeah that's the way to do it but it doesn't make sense. GR are supposed to encourage playing games not avoiding them.

Or just play to have fun and be damned with "rankings". What do they really mean anyway? Players know who is good and who isn't. You know when someone is better than you and even then it doesn't always mean they'll beat you.

While it looks great, I'm sad to say I think there has been a mistake. I managed to move up 261 spots to 150. In my last five games including variants, I've only drawn one, and lost all the others.

that's good to know. Now hopefully my GR won't have dropped 50

for basically no reason. (I didn't feel right complaining earlier since I'm in such an insignificant position anyways, but 50

is over 1/3 of my GR)

I thought Chrispminis was assuming it was an April Fools joke and was just saying that while you were at it you could have put yourself at the top.

I thought it was because you did it last year and I just couldn't see how I could have dropped from mid-200s to 2000something. But I didn't want to ruin anyone else's fun. (Yeah, I know, claiming knowledge after the fact is lame.)

Can't get to the Home page?

Anyone else got this problem? I was playing two live games yesterday and the server went down for cache clearing, came back an hour later or so and the i got this error all the time when loading the page...

I've only got 6

and a rare free night. Anyone want to go live? I'll start whatever style of game people want to play but it must be for 5

only. I prefer GB or PP for live games but I'll agree to whatever. Post interest and what you want to play and will start.

This is a cool little thing I found online. It takes your opinion on separate issues and then says which UK party fits you best. Even as an American I found this interesting. It takes about three minutes, so why not know how you'd vote if you lived in the United Kingdom?
