map-symbol question
What does a black star mean when a unit gets created? Why is it there versus a yellow star? For instance, in this game:

http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=24664
Russia's new army in Warsaw gets a yellow star, but the new army in Sevastopol gets a black star.

Anyone ready to play a game within the hour?
I've only got 6 D and a rare free night. Anyone want to go live? I'll start whatever style of game people want to play but it must be for 5 D only. I prefer GB or PP for live games but I'll agree to whatever. Post interest and what you want to play and will start.

Vote Match General: Election 2010
This is a cool little thing I found online. It takes your opinion on separate issues and then says which UK party fits you best. Even as an American I found this interesting. It takes about three minutes, so why not know how you'd vote if you lived in the United Kingdom?

Here's how I break down. I said that I lived in England, for what it's worth. I know very little about British politics (although I'd like to think I'm far ahead of nearly any other American), so I don't know how accurate these really are. I also put "open-minded for a lot of the answers since I don't know very much about those UK domestic issues. Here's how my compatibility broke down.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/election-2010/7541285/Vote-Match-General-Election-2010.html

British National Party
69%

UK Independence Party
64%

Conservative Party
52%

Liberal Democrats
44%

Green Party
32%

Labour Party
26%

I know enough about the BNP to not actually vote for them, although I can't see anything too crazy in my answers. All my answers could have fit the US Democratic Party. From the little I've seen of them I think I actually would vote UKIP if I lived in Britain.

I think the most surprising thing was that the Greens were ahead of Labour for me, especially since I answered that man-made global warming was a hoax.

These things are popping up all over the place at the moment. An alternative one I did earlier this evening was http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/ . Encouragingly both gave the same answer, although they use rather different methods.

I'm quite impressed by your range of percentages, Invictus. My highest was 57% for the conservatives and my lowest was 44%. I guess that makes me a moderate conservative.... or perhaps just confused.

I got the Lib dem and greens at 62%
uk Ind poarty at 61%
then labour 57%
consv at 23
and the fascists at 42%

thought the questions were very loaded to the right but
oliver1uk (677 D)

Lib dem 67%
Labour/tory/facists2 55%
Green 45%
Fascists1 39%

Roughly as expected although flicking through the results has made me realise that the greens have quite a strange mix of policies. (To me at least.)

Thanks for posting Invictus. It's a good quiz although it has revealed you to be a closet facist...

Conservative Party:

Liberal Democrats:

Labour Party:

British National Party:

I had thought of myself as more of a liberal democrat, so was surprised by these results

There was nothing fascistic about the questions asked. The only thing remotely like that is deporting foreigners who commit crimes, which I don't understand why they don't do already.

While I don't think they're the sort that ought to be in charge of the government (like I don't think the US's Constitution Party ought to be), if the BNP's fascist then fascism's not so bad. Throwing that word around too loosely demeans its actual meaning.

Invictus, did you pick all the anti-EU answers and select sovereignty as an important issue? I'm guessing (based on what little I know of British politics) the BNP is strongly anti-EU, which is why it and the UK Independence Party came out on top for me (and you).

[From Wikipedia, but the citations are good]

Until 2009, when it was challenged in the courts on grounds of racial discrimination, it restricted membership to people of "Caucasian origin". After a vote by members in a February 2010 extraordinary general meeting the party dropped this policy, with chairman Nick Griffin saying that the party will now "accept anyone as a member providing they agree with us that this country should remain fundamentally British". The party does not regard non-white people as being British, even if they have been born in the UK and are naturalised British citizens. Instead, Griffin has stated that "non-Europeans who stay", while protected by British law, "will be regarded as permanent guests."

The party has stated that it does not consider the Jewish, Hindu or Sikh religions to have a significantly detrimental or threatening effect, having several members with Jewish ancestry, but does not accept practising Sikhs or Hindus as culturally or ethnically British. In pursuit of the policy, the BNP has previously worked with extremists from the Sikh and Hindu communities in an anti-Islamic campaign and actively tried to win Jewish votes.

The BNP is opposed to mixed-race relationships on the stated ground that racial differences must be preserved; the party said that "when whites take partners from other ethnic groups, a white family line that stretches back into deep pre-history is destroyed."[135] Nick Griffin stated: "...while the BNP is not racist, it must not become multi-racist either. Our fundamental determination to secure a future for white children is restated, and an area of uncertainty is addressed and a position which is both principled and politically realistic is firmly established. We don't hate anyone, especially the mixed race children who are the most tragic victims of enforced multi-racism, but that does not mean that we accept miscegenation as moral or normal. We do not and we never will."

Furthermore, the vote that led to dropping of the policy restricting membership to people of "Caucasian origin" was only taken after the courts deemed it illegal.

You have to dig in to the "Conservative" answers. I agreed with some of their answers, but I had opposite motivations for doing so. You probably are a LibDem; that's what I would be in England.
