Is it possible to change my user name? As pointed out in a previous thread, my name is a bit odd. If so, can I keep my stats and games I'm involved in?

Bug in World Diplomacy?
I don't know if the code used for the World Dip variant on this site is the same as the one used in GoonDip, but if it is - I had spotted what I thought was a bug on GoonDip, and informed Gilgatex about it, but an hour later GoonDip closed (for good). Could someone check for bugs here?

Who Would Win?
1st match- Sherlock Holmes (the traditional one, not this movie's one), Batman, Indiana Jones and James Bond are all after the same artifact.

Who gets there FIRST... and who KEEPS IT? ;)

In this game a fleet in San(South Afirca's home Supply Center) supported the fleet in South Africa out into the Atlantic Ocean. Is this supposed to be possible. San and the Atlantic Ocean that the fleet moved to are not in contact.

A Question for Kestas About Variants
How does country allocation in Variants work? In normal games, you have a greater chance of playing countries you haven't played much. So is this true in Variants as well?

And what would happen if, say, Fleet Rome were introduced as a variant? Would playing a country in Fleet Rome affect your chances in normal games?

Move adjudicator website to test moves?
Is there a website or program folks use to test our whether moves would be successful? I'm trying to evaluate different "what-if" scenarios and would like to input different alternatives. Any thoughts?

Just constantly play I guess? I know I don't have over 1000 D, but my skill rank is 579 or something. I LOVE live games. They go fast, theyre fun, and they really improve your talking skills since you have to know what to say and fast. I like gunboat as well, it works on raw tactics.

Gunboat's good fun (anon, live pref for me - and I'll be interested in joining another one soon). As for play, he's right.

If you just play every now and then you'll find it hard to build up, and indeed it can be rather depressing. So yeh, if you possibly can I would suggest you try not to take a break from the game - really hits you.
Whilst you're going I wouldn't have more than 5 games running at once, because even by that sort of point you're stretching your time and your mind very thinly.

Avoid WTA and just try not to die. Even if you don't win it's still pretty easy to gain points if you aren't one of those big girls blouses who just give up as soon as things go against them.

what`s wrong with girls`blouses, Stripy?

anyway, play WTA - the competition is stronger and more reliable, and will improve your skills. don`t ever stop talking to other players, even when they say "i'm going to tear you apart limb by limb," and remember that your allies are always looking for the opportunity to stab you. don't give them that opportunity.

points matter some, but there are other measurements of skills such as ghost rating, ranking in the tournaments, etc. focus more on playing good games and doing well (winning or drawing) than on accumulating points.

my skill points are over 9,000!

my dip points on the other hand i've stopped paying any attention to...
I play WTA and winning big pot games is a lot of fun, but as PPSC players seem to care more about their points than winning a game i suggest you avoid them!

Get used to the fact you are going to be absolutely crushed many times. Its annoying, but its the truth, so when you do don't worry. Have a look back through the game and critique your play: work out how your ally managed to get into such a position that they stabbed you out the game, and work out how to stop that happening next time.
A difficult defeat will teach you much more than an easy win.

Learning Java
Hi all.
After much to-ing and fro-ing I've decided to learn Java. My decision has been swayed by the fact university will give me credit for it, but its something I've been thinking about for quite some time anyway. I believe its quite simple (someone described it to be as equidistant from C, javaScript and VB), but I was wondering if any of you know of a good free resource to get going?

I'm sorry to post a newbie question, but how does one resign. Is it via the votes buttons? Also, does this site have a forum message search feature?
