When is someone Cheating?
Isnt it incredible how in some games (anonymous to boot) some players never attack others.

Today, I observed one power skip several turns and then wake up make 1 move and then go back to sleep. I wonder if the same Person used this second nation as a ploy....... Thats cheating right?

League takeover question
So I'm taking the spot of someone who had to leave his league after the first game. He won a solo in the first game. Do I inherit his points? This is quite relevant because if I do, everyone is going to kill me. If I don't, I would prefer everyone else know that...

EU raises objections to Oracle Sun takeover
Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I'm positive that whatever Oracle may say their intention is to stifle MySQL development, as with InnoDB and BDB. But Sun is failing (perhaps helped along with Oracle looming over it like the grim reaper), so if Oracle don't buy it who will?

(FYI MySQL and InnoDB are the database tech that this site runs on)

strange moves in gunboat?
anyone else than me that thinks englands moves in this game is all for the benfit of the german? mainly leaving sc´s and not retreating into german sc´s when given a chance? is this normal in gunboat games? gameID=15241
It's unusual behavior, and it's not the only one in that game, including leaving Sweden and the North Sea completely undefended.

You won't be able to get a better feel for if there is anything more than unusual behavior, however, until after the game is over. At that point, you can check the records of the players involved, and see if it is the same accounts playing against each other. I would also recommend checking all the players in the game; the multi-accounters that I have spotted in the past usually don't take a chance and will include several alts in each game in order to ensure that they win.

ok, thanx. alot ofstrange moves from most players I think.

Anyone know more about what exactly is allowed when it comes to meta-gaming? in the above game the 2 players (germany and england) making strange moves have a history of helping each other in previous live games. Are they only bending the rules so it´s nothing to care about or should I report it to admins?
vamosrammstein (757 D(B))
11 Nov 09 UTC
There's no way to tell if its multiaccounting, or what degree of metagaming it is, if its even metagaming at all. Making pre-game alliances is unnacceptable, but allying with someone because you know them to be trustworthy based on past experiences is acceptable, and logical as well. There is of course, no way to PROVE metagaming, so it is really up to the mods, who are typically pretty lenient with this sort of thing, so as to avoid unjust bannings.

I don't really care about the rules - I'm adding them to the blacklist of players that I avoid. Thanks for letting us know.

That game had a lot of questionable crap. Russia and Turkey missed moves.cd's early, austria did the worst possible openning i've ever seen (and i've done some bad opennings myself as austria), and england was also kinda dumb. is it a conspiracy/cheating or was it just luck and and crappy playing by some, it is interesting that germany and italy shared a semi-joint victory and that the countries most pertinent to their success failed epically...
fetteper (1448 D)
11 Nov 09 UTC
so it´s allowed with the obvious alliance between england and germany? even though it is a anonymous-no-chat game and they have allied in similar games before?
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
11 Nov 09 UTC
I think they should be punished because it's a gunboat anon game. They must've chatted via other channels.
vamosrammstein (757 D(B))
11 Nov 09 UTC
Just to throw in another opinion here, players CAN communicate without actually "speaking" If they have allied in the past, they probably know how each other thinks, and would be able to guess their moves.
fetteper (1448 D)
11 Nov 09 UTC
so the overall opinion is that there is no gain in letting the admins know?
Alderian (2425 D(S))
11 Nov 09 UTC
Well, you've potentially let the admins know just by posting this thread. On the other hand, might as well send the email to the mods, I believe it is simple enough for them to check into. Easy for me to say of course. The mods could check to see if the two are sending private messages about this game to each other.

How do you know they've worked together in the past if this is an anonymous game?
Vitus (100 D)
11 Nov 09 UTC
I don't really think that England acted for the benefit of Germany.

He was clearly not trying to attack Germany, but none of his moves particularly helped him, and the only time Germany capitalised on England's mistakes was when France was already in Liverpool.

England was just attacking France, and wanted to move for Russia too...

eh, I'm no expert :)

Any Takers for a CD Russia?

Russia has CD'ed. Position isn't terrible, but it probably will become so if no one takes over. Lots of diplomatic freedom, though; can join up with pretty much anyone on the board easily right now. Any takers?
