Italy: 3 fleets opening
This sounds really interesting. Italy takes Trieste in Sp01 and Austria takes if back in Fa01. Italy disbands the army and is allowed to build two fleets to better attack France or Turkey.

Rankings
So I have completed a few games and have done fairly well. What I want to know is, where can I see the rankings? Like is there a list on this site rating all members that can be viewed?

What about Ghost Rankings? I hear they have not been updated for a while but where can i see them? And how does TGM take into account Anonymous games?

All Men Are Created Equal- What a Terrible Thought
I think it's a nice idea and in the Founding Father's context I can see through to agreeing with it on the whole:
But treating everyone equal just as a matter of fact? We are unique beings!
Case in point- our terrible American Educational System

Can someone look into this game?
gameID=13720

It seems kind of odd how I am being gained upon by three people in that particular situation. It's either multi's or three people who really want one of themselves to win.

Everyone already played this alliance:
Russia/Turkey/Germany?
I didn´t find it neither among most commom alliances ( on Dip Wiki), nor the unorthodoxes one. I would like to know wether is there someone here who ever played it and how did it work out.

Portugal can't retreat... what?
I just noticed. Portugal only boarders two territories: Spain and MAO. Because of this, if Portugal is dislodged (requiring both units) it has no where to go.

Help needed on Support Moves
Hello together,
i am totally new to Diplomacy and still trying to figuere out how the System works. By now i stumbeld upon the Support move. You always, need to etner a field called "from", but why and where do all the possible inputs come from?
Staubfuss (308 D)

For example, i had the following move:
# The army at Serbia support move to Rumania from Budapest. (fail)
# The army at Budapest support move to Rumania from Serbia. (fail)
first i don't exactly understand why the move failed, and second(and worst) i don't understand what for values else i should have entered
would be nice if someone could "enlight" me :-)
Thanks in advance
Staunfuss

A unit can EITHER support OR move.

In your example, you had ordered both units to provide support, and you had not ordered either of the units to make a move.

To make a move with support, one unit needs to move, and one or more other units need to support it.

A more correct set of orders might look like this:

# The army at Serbia move to Rumania.
# The army at Budapest support move to Rumania from Serbia.

Does this help?

Well, the failure of the first was because Budapest didn't try to move (it issued a suport move instead). The failure of the second was the same. You should have issued one of them to move, and the other to support it.

http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf is the official rules for the game of Diplomacy and should answer most of your questions about the basics. The rest of the posters here on the forum (myself included) will be happy to help with the more esoteric issues. One thing to note: keep questions in as generic a form as possible if about an ongoing game, and never ever reference an ongoing game by putting a link to it on the forum. This is considered bad form.

Some things in general:
Gunboat = this is a game with NO textual communication (no chats, nothing on the forums, no PMs).
Public/Global Press Only = Only press that every one can see is allowed. This may be in game (usually, nowadays) or here on the forum (some oldschool games use the forum before the days of the chat log).
Anonymous = You won't know who the other players are and it is frowned upon to try and figure it out for the purposes or metagaming. although some variants, the fun is in guessing who the other players are.

Common screwups by noobs.
Support hold can only support a unit not attmepting to move. Convoying, holding, support move, and supporting hold are all hold orders and the unit in question can be support held. Issuing a move order, even if it fails, will break the support and leave the unit vulnerable.

Support move must refer to a moving unit.

Read the manual and ask more questions to your hearts content.

but i thougth and read that in the rules as well, that i can support another player as well? So why do i have to move if i just want to support someone else?
JesusPetry (258 D)

Then you should support from where the other player was.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

Yes you can support another player's move. In which case you should order:

# The army at <insert location of your army> support move to <the place being moved to> from <the starting point of the other player's unit>.

Ok?

You should definitely read the official rules that Draugnar posted the link to. Here is the link again:

http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf

It doesn't take too long to get through them and it will greatly help your understanding of how the game works. If you don't you are going to run into one thing after another.

Rankings ... Draw v. Survive
How are rankings determined? How much "weight" is given "Draw" versus "Survived"? What other factors are considered (i.e., % of wins, draws, survived, lost)?

Is there an archived explanation for this question?

Speeding up games
Hey guys.

I've just started a 3 day turn game with some friends. Is there any way to speed up certain turns? Namely, we've started the game but still have to wait 3 turns to be assigned countries and to even start! Is there any way to just start our first turn?
