Portuguese speaking players
I was wondering how many Portuguese speaking players are in here. Would like to create a game spoken in Portuguese if there are enough players and enough interest.

Sardinia and Corsica
Has anyone else noticed that Corsica is colored green for Italy while Sardinia is left as the neutral salmon color? This strikes me as being incorrect since the Kingdom of Italy definitely included Sardinia while Corsica was under France during this time period. Was this error part of the original board game?

The current Avalon Hill/Wizards of the Coast map has Sardinia colored green and Corsica neutral.

My 1963 copyright board has both green for Italy.

I know this is probably the most minor of things to fix but does anyone else think it should be changed? I imagine it would take just seconds to correct.

That's not the only instance of this type of thing.

Great Britain is wrongly called "England" for example. And since when was Iceland part of the UK?
Centurian (3257 D)

Well at the time Great Britain and England were interchangable.

There is an island in the baltic that is part of Livonia on the small map and part of sweden on the big map.
Invictus (240 D)

And part of Sweden in reality. Crete never changes, either.

the coloring on this board, i believe, is simply to make it easy to tell where you can move to. that's why crete and sardinia stay neutral, b/c if they changed color with a specific province, it might get confusing. i suppose it might make more sense to remove them altogether. but this is what i recall kestas saying before when this issue is brought up. it's not like we are playing some historically accurate game, either, so i don't think it's a big deal.

On the other hand, Ireland DOES change colour with a specific province (Liverpool). I'd rather colour them all (Corsica, Sardinia, Crete, Ireland, Iceland, Cyrpus) neutral.
djbent (2572 D(S))

yes, that would make more sense.

Lol I made a thread about this a long time ago.

The consensus was that if an island is along the border of two sea-territories, it remains neutral no matter what.

However that doesn't quite explain why Ireland Iceland and the island in the Baltic are so fickle. Lol personally I think the colors should be tied to whoever owned them. You could tie Corsica to Marseilles, and Sardinia to Rome. Cyprus to Smyrna, and Crete to Greece. Iceland could stay neutral or you could tie it to Norway. Ireland could stay neutral or you could tie it to Liverpool or Clyde.

That was just my opinion though apparently for logistical reasons its better the way it is.

ireland is tied to lvp b/c anywhere you can move to from ireland, you can move to from lvp. same with iceland and clyde, and corsica and tuscany. since there is no occupy-able land territory from which you can move to GoL, Tys and Wes, Sardinia stays neutral, and likewise for crete.
Invictus (240 D)

If that's the rule then the island in the Baltic still ought to go to Sweden. It's a very small issue but it sure would be nice to have that change in the next update, if and when such a thing happens/is necessary.
Toby Bartels (361 D)

Aha, now I know the reason!

I still would rather have them all neutrally-coloured, but at least it makes sense now.

@Centurian

The Irish, Scottish, and Welsh would beg to differ. Great Britain only applies to the big island, which includes England, Wales, and Scotland. At the time, it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland so the whole of the Emerald Isle was considered part of the nation. England is often used synecdochically to represent the UK but it can be an insulting error if you are a resident of one of the other constituent countries. Plenty of Scots, Welsh, and Irish died in WWI. I doubt they would like to think that they died for England's sake alone.

Another feature on the Korean site....
I wonder when this will be adopted here; in the 'Orders' that you can review after a turn, it notes when an order fails by underlining it and writing 'failed', such as: (Note this is a new map)

# The fleet at Gulf of Pelusium move to Alexandria. (failed)
