Portuguese speaking players
I was wondering how many Portuguese speaking players are in here. Would like to create a game spoken in Portuguese if there are enough players and enough interest.

Sardinia and Corsica
Has anyone else noticed that Corsica is colored green for Italy while Sardinia is left as the neutral salmon color? This strikes me as being incorrect since the Kingdom of Italy definitely included Sardinia while Corsica was under France during this time period. Was this error part of the original board game?

New Game
I made a new game with 115 dip. It's called "Sorry Mario, but the Princess is in Clyde." Well...she's always been there. No one takes it, so that's why she never gets saved. ;_; Didn't you notice that England is pink like Peach? Anyway, join the game and save her... :)

Does poor spelling matter? Discuss
Someone spells caricatures incorrectly and it starts a debate. Should it? Should people pick others up on poor spelling when it is clear what the word should be? Is poor spelling a sign of low intelligence?

@RealityCheque I'd say your assessment is about as close to my normal assessment as well. I'd assert though that it is unreliable to make the leap to intelligence based upon writing skill. In recruiting for a job, it is entirely appropriate and should be expected that you toss the CV's that have even a few simple mistakes on them. I, however, wouldn't do it because I thought the individual had below average intelligence, but because he/she did not care enough to put forth the best first impression possible. The writing skills demonstrated on a CV or resume' may not even be those of the prospective employee.

An internet forum on a game website, on the other hand, is an instance in which people are writing for recreation and perhaps doing it at times when they cannot put their full attention toward the task. My above post, about the changing nature of language vs. grammar, was an example of this. It is a first draft of an argument that I had a couple of minutes to prepare before jumping up to handle another more pressing task. If there are mistakes in it, it's probably due more to the fact that it's a rough draft and rough drafts are prone to having mistakes. It is not a reflection of my true writing skill and certainly not of my intelligence overall.
**about as close to my normal assessment as any I've seen so far**
see what I mean? ..... rough draft :-?

I agree entirely that different standards are expected from different forms of communication and that spelling mistakes on this forum really do not matter to me at all. I communicate differently with my children on text than I do with players on here and communicate completely differently in my work environment. That's all fine and dandy providing both parties are aware of the unwritten rules and conventions.

For some reason though I don't like Kwik-Fit, Kwik-photos, etc, etc or something like Hotel Trubble <sic> on children's TV. Even though I'm sure that 95% of people will realise that quick isn't spelt with a 'k', it must surely be difficult for people learning to spell. Standardising / outlawing such thing might help our younger generation. As would shooting shop owners who use apostrophes out of place.

Interesting shop owner comment there, Maniac. Got an example you'd like to cite?
Here's my favorite proposal for reforming Spelling in English

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter c would be dropped to be replased either by k or s, and likewise x would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which c would be retained would be the ch formation, which will be dealt with later.

Year 2 might reform w spelling, so that which and one would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish y replasing it with i and Iear 4 might fiks the g/j anomali wonse and for all.

Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants.

Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez c, y and x -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais ch, sh, and th rispektivli.

Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

Just for curiosity:
In portuguese alphabet we don't have K, W and Y...
Only 23 letters.

yeah, i was going to say the other option is for everyone to speak spanish.
Poor spelling drives me nuts, but I equate it with laziness, not low intelligence. One of my best friend's grammar and spelling is atrocious, yet he has a PhD in biochemistry and worked for many years at UF's Quantum Theory Project. He is anything but stupid.

Those are great. I thought you meant like with names (i.e. Krogers, Kroger's, Krogers'). some of them could be correct no matter the form as the name may or may not end with an 's' and the name may refer to more than one person (father/son business, etc.). I particularly liked the examples from government or quasi-government agencies.

I wonder when this will be adopted here; in the 'Orders' that you can review after a turn, it notes when an order fails by underlining it and writing 'failed', such as: (Note this is a new map)

# The fleet at Gulf of Pelusium move to Alexandria. (failed)
