Quick Question
Can a fleet in Greece support another fleet's hold on the north coast of Bulgaria even though the fleet in Greece is unable to move to the north coast of Bulgaria from Greece?

We tried this once, but England left the game in Spring 01. So now we are trying again. Five of the six who joined that game have signed up, so that leaves two open spots. Looking for someone who won't go CD. Password and game ID inside.

Possible Error (Bug Reporting??)
It is a gunboat game so I am not sure if I can even post this, but I believe that there has been a error in the way that my moves have been processed. IT has happened twice (if I understand the rules correctly)

Retreats
If somebody has to enter retreat orders but doesn't do so (e.g because he misses his turn or is in CD), what happens to the unit? There are several adjacent empty territories that the unit could theoretically retreat to. Thanks!

Someone deciding they don't want to continue
So, I am in a few games right now. It seems like in most of the games I am in, someone has stopped entering moves. In one game, someone just announced they were not going to enter anymore moves, because they suspected someone of meta-gaming. They said they had no proof at all, the game was just making them "uncomfortable". It happened after the game started turning against them.

hey everyone i'm just advertising a cool new map that everyone can start playing on. just go to dip.xbsd.kr to join a game.
here is one you can join
http://dip.xbsd.kr/games/398/

keep in mind this sight is the korean diplomacy. however you can change it to english when you sign up and you mostthe koreans speak english too. already some users on here have switched over to playing on dip.xbsd as well. other maps include south america ( 4 person and 5 person) classic, and fleet rome.

Enjoy these cool maps!

31 Aug 09 UTC
Yeah, I went to this site.
The maps are cool and fun. AND, it has a nice gunboat feature if you like gunboat a lot. It makes all players in the gunboat game anonymous and allows only global chat eliminating the ability to talk to a country specifically so it is more like what a gunboat game should be.

i see you did a speed game. i don't think that will work right now for that stage unless you advertise on here or there for players to join it

The sharing element of the license means that Kestas has access to this code, which should mean that it can be implemented at some point.

Yeah I know.. Just trying. But compliments to the nice anti-cheat program in gunboat games. That should be implemented here too ;D

they are developing alot of new things. this sight is much larger than the other but this one sure could learn sometimes abotu map development and gunboat from dip.xbsd
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
31 Aug 09 UTC
Map development is apparently quite simple if you care to learn how to do it. The gunboat code can be pretty much copied over once 0.9 has stabilised.

they are different but fun. i still enjoy the old map the most but the others are fun in their own right
Star Revil (276 D)

It's easy to make maps. If you look at some different RISK games, they have something in their website where you can create your own maps. You just have to browse an image of a self-made map.

Then click somewhere on the map, and there shall be a circle with a number in it for the amount of units.

If you've gave all regions a name, you can fill in what region can attack what region, and so on.

This could also be done here right? But then a bit different because of the supply center things..

Alderian (2425 D(S))

The interesting thing about the south american and ancient mediterranean maps is there are no real central powers or corner powers. They are both big circles. One with land on the inside surrounded by water and the other the other way around.
Star Revil (276 D)
31 Aug 09 UTC
Exactly. It doesn't really have empires that have a high chance of falling very quickly, like Austria.

hmm, anyone else looking at the map thinking how immensely unbalanced this is ?

persia and carthage have brutal positions
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
01 Sep 09 UTC
I joined a couple of Ancient Med and South America games - the maps look interesting and are not so unbalanced actually - but obviously there's a learning curve until people get to understand the map better.

For South America - the map is brutal - small and you start fighting first turn already - the feeling is as if everyone is playing AUS :)
Hence, results are random, luck will play a bigger role, and so will metagaming (a 2-way alliance can win the game in 3 turns if they are not caught). Brasil is really terrible to play (big like RUS, but with only 3 centers and positioned in the center)

For Ancient Med - the map is quite big (34 centers for 5 players, compared to 24 in the SA one) and allows for reasonable expansion even if you fight. Great map for people who love the tactical aspect of the game - movement, positioning and logistics are key for this one. I like it a lot :)

That site looks awesome. I'd love to play the ancient map sometime. Plus someone said it has speed games - If so I'll definitely play there sometime. My preference is for either really slow games (three days per turn) or really fast (15 minutes per turn).
Of course this site is still the best.

I think in a map like this, convoys will have their time to shine a lot more than usually
Star Revil (276 D)
01 Sep 09 UTC
Persia and Carthage have a great way to start and they can have 9 supply centers very quickly, unless you stop them ;)
But that's not that bad, because a challenge is always great ;D
DJEcc24 (246 D)
01 Sep 09 UTC
i've found ancient med to actually be pretty smooth.
DJEcc24 (246 D)

also i find the 4 person south america more balanced than the five
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

Yes, but somewhaty boring - 4 people instantly leads to a 2 vs.2
DJEcc24 (246 D)
01 Sep 09 UTC
yes true. my favorite new one is the ancient med. but in the forum.webdiplomacy many new maps are being created that will hopefully be implemented on the other sight
such as hundred years war

Missing Unit
gameID=12861
Last turn I (at least I thought I did) put in build orders for fleet in Brest and army in Paris. I should have 6 units now but I only have five, the Paris army never arrived. The orders archive only has the order to build a fleet in Brest listed. Now, this is my first game, so I'm in no way ruling out that I made a mistake but I didn't think the finalize option appeared unless there were valid orders entered?
Maybe they're just having a glass of wine first...?

Milking every last point...
Just a quick query. If you draw a game, the pot is split between the survivors. No problems there. But what if the pot does not divide evenly between the number of survivors? Does it round up, round down, or round to the nearest whole number? Thanks.
