i would have joined if it was 24 hr phase lengths - you guys will get through 1902 or 1903 and then someone will be a jerk and leave or you'll end up pausing and you will never be able to finish because you'll never be on at the same time again...

i don't have much interest in repeating last night's fiasco...

You're probably right, I'm just not sure what happened about an hour ago when people were assembled and wanted to know what the game was called.

Jacob have you had any success with these live games? I would be interested to read a summary of the live game experiences as to the percentage of successful full games completed and the time it took.

I have played maybe 4-5 live games.

None of them have been a wholly satisfactory experience. The first two or three we played the first person who started losing just left. What are going to do - sit and wait for 2-3 hours until that person goes cd so that we can then resume fast play? No. So we just drew.

Then I had a live game that I won but one guy became a total jerk toward the end when he didn't get his way and I ended up staying up really late to finish it up because everyone ended up leaving and going cd. I already had the game in hand when this occurred so I didn't feel like it diminished the win, but it still made me mad...

Then last night I played a live game and it ended up getting paused. I don't think it will ever unpause...

So, in my opinion, the ONLY way you can do a live game is to do it with 24+ hour phases. That means you also need 7 people signed up before you start the game because the game won't start until it fills or 24 hours pass...

It's tricky and I haven't been able to start one the way I want yet.

We WOULD HAVE tonight but for Rommeltastic hijacking everything and never saying sorry...

So what's the shortest phase length you can create game with? If it can be set to 15 or at least 30 min, then, with pre-agreement among all participants to play game all the way through and not to pause, those who leave game and go CD won't ruin the game for everybody.

Jacob - there is now a google-group email list that idealist started (somewhere else on this forum) join it...

I'm down for that plan at some point - its the best way to play a RT game.

the smartest thing is we could get kestas to lower the deadline to 15 min... but absent that, Jacob's suggestion is best... 24 or 12 hr deadline... w/ everyone agreeing to at least play 3-4 hrs at 15 min finalize intervals.

ag - I've played 3 or 4 live games on here... 2 ended by 1905/6 with draws we did not want to do the pause/unpause dance... but they were both very fun games until ppl had to go to bed etc.

1 fell apart by 03 - we paused it... but eventually drew it a week later...

the last one was from a few nights ago --- a great game with solid 15min finalize times (the best I've been in yet) but ppl had to go to bed so its now paused and we are trying to figure out when to restart it... but I have high hopes.

I'd be keen to play a live game with people I know (ie have played before) well enough that they won't all be stupid and leave because they are losing :) which is kind of why we have the live gaming group - and as soon as someone pulls a fast one (or slow one in this case :) ) they get blacklisted from playing live with us in the group. We also set for 24 hour phases, as a precautionary.
