Blog discourse
I'm trying to formulate a community blog revolving around very effective discourse. I'm asking for any ideas to incorporate to help with our success.

Main idea I'm playing with is a voting system to direct the conversations in a natural flow that the majority wants it to take.

Un to the pause please
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=11336

This game was paused due to a player who had already been defeated being banned. Since then, Kolobok has refused to unpause, despite having logged in a number of times, speculatively, because he is angry I stabbed him. Please unpause.

CD question.
I'm in a game where two of as are about the break the current leader. The game naturally would go to a battle between the two of us allies for the win. The current leader is now going to leave for an extended holiday after the current build phase, and voted for a draw. When will he FIRST be in CD if he does?

i believe he must nmr three turns in a row to go cd

I would like to continue for one more year to be able to pick up at least a few of the scs we would have gotten anyway, and THEN agreeing to the draw, which seems fair to everyone. But, if the absent player is NMR for the Spring move, and for the retreat phase, and THEN misses the Fall move as well, will he go CD before the conquered scs are scored to my and my ally? IOW, we would like to pick up a few more scs we feel entitled to, after all our work, but we don't want the missing player, who has played a great game, to end up with a "left game" instead of a draw with a goodly chunk of points. Any insight on both the rules and the morals would be appreciated.

if you're going to draw, the amount of centers you have doesn't matter
smokybarnable (1141 D)
03 Jul 09 UTC
How are the points allocated then, trip?
smokybarnable (1141 D)
03 Jul 09 UTC
I've been in draws before, and the points have always been allocated per power center.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Countries in civil disorder do not get a share of a draw. So if you want to share the draw with him then you would have to wait for him to get back and log into the game.

Also, if this is a public game (no password), then someone else may pick up the CD and then they would be the ones getting a share of the draw.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
03 Jul 09 UTC
Draws are always split between the number of active players. So if there are two players left then the pot is split in two.
smokybarnable (1141 D)
03 Jul 09 UTC
He has already voted for a draw, so it only requires the rest of us to agree and it is done. We could draw at any moment from now on, whether he gets back or not (assuming no one took over a CD)
Xapi (194 D)
03 Jul 09 UTC
And equally, pots in draws are split equally between players.
smokybarnable (1141 D)

Trip, when you say "three turns" that includes retreat and build turns as well? Or just Fall, Spring diplomacy phases?

there aren't any rules reguarding pausing games that i'm aware of. personally, i have no issue with pausing a game for a short amount of time (a week or less). if its something, like an extended vacation, that the player was certainly aware of before he joined the game, i don't think i would. considering you planned to draw the game anyway, i think the right thing would be to draw...jmho
trip (696 D(B))
03 Jul 09 UTC
not 100% sure how that works. if the player misses a build phase, but doesn't have any builds or disbands, it may not count as an nmr.

Hmmm... a lot to think about. Thanks for all your input!
trip (696 D(B))
03 Jul 09 UTC
i'd actually like to know for myself how that is handled. anyone know whether or not missing turns where orders (retreats, builds or disbands) count towards going cd?

no worries smokybarnable

*where there are no orders
EmperorJake (200 D)
03 Jul 09 UTC
Any phase missed where you have orders to input counts as NMR towards CD. Phases only don't count if there is nothing to do (retreat phase where someone has no retreats or build/deletion where someone has not lost or gained any centers). If you have only one supply center, it only takes one NMR to go CD (I think).
figlesquidge (2131 D)
03 Jul 09 UTC
I have to add I was of the impression it was 2 phases of not viewing the game. NMRs will not cause you to CD. One unit/SC though is single phase as EJ says.
I suggest you draw it now - draws give the same points to everyone involved anyway
