Gunboat - Potentially dumb question
How are gunboat rules enforced? I don't see any option when creating a game for making a gunboat game, so what stops people from communicating?

Can a moderator please pause this game?
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9023

Turkey was away for a few days, everyone voted for a pause except Germany, who is away but didn't CD yet. Turkey is now back (and lost rumania in his absence), but we'd like the game to be paused anyway because Italy's getting a baby, which sounds to me as a pretty convincing reason to pause the game. Can a mod please pause this game? Thanks.

Should there be a limit to the amount of games you can join?
I'm in a game at the moment with a chap who's playing 15 (fifteen!) games in total, and both I and others in the game have noticed this has effected his ability to diplome. He says a few words to his direct neighbours and stays completely silent with his non-neighbours, and I and some other players have already discussed how this is effecting the game in a negative fashion. Should there be a limit to how many games people can join to make sure they have enough time to play the game properly?

Plug sockets...
One for our United States gamers...

I shall be travelling to the US very soon and will carry two laptops... Both have power cables that have a good old British style plug on the end: three square pins (live, neutral and earth).

What is the plug type I would need in the States?

The power supply/transformers are okay (will operate on 110 volts) - I just need to know if I have to get an adaptor.

Thanks...

The plug is different. You want to find something that goes to a Type B NEMA 5-15 or 5-20.

I was too lazy to investigate further, so I'll just give you the place I started and you can figure it out from there. Good luck!

Yes, my thoughts too.

Anyone got a picture of the standard US plug socket and plug? I'd like to know what it is like.

Okay, I'll Google etc but I would really like a definitive piccie if anyone out here can help.

So, they range from Type A to Type L!

With the States having both A and B, great...

And the UK just about on its own with Type G (although wonderful places like HK share the G)...

Either two parallel flat blades and a round ground underneath.

| |
O

Like that.

Or, two parallel flat blades (no grounding) but one is slightly longer than the other. Most computers over here use the two-blades version (no grounding), but most sockets will handle either. And should you need it, they have an adapter that will "unground" the grounding post to a flat blade that runs parallel to the outlet so it doesn't plug in.

I shall be searching for adaptors tomorrow. This is clearly a Ph.D topic in the making...

I disagree on that, Draugnar. If I'm not mistaken, the grounded version is used by most computers.

I wasa thinking laptops. The standard Dell Latitude D series does not have a grounded plug, nor do the older Toshibas I'm forced to support. But most desktops, on the other hand, do use grounded plugs. But, considering he is travelling to us, I doubt he is bringing a desktop with him.

Macbook should be fine ungrounded. If it uses the two round posts at home, then it probably isn't a grounded plug although the ones in germany had a sort of "surround" ground that ran around the outside of the plug in some cases. I found simple adapters going the other way when I had to spend so much time in Germany and my laptop and cellphone did just fine over there.

you might have a problem with phone chargers though as just an adaptor wont work you mite have to buy a charger when your over there
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Mar 09 UTC
Well, I think most of the world phones have dual voltage, but you might also just use your USB adapter nowadays. My old one didn't have a USB charger/tether, but it did have the dual voltage charger.

Assuming you're using the standard power adapters for your macbooks, this might be more or less what you're looking for (it'd cover you in other travels as well) http://store.apple.com/uk/product/M8794G/B?mco=MzE2OTkzNA

I have one of each, both laptops.

Anyway, you should be able to get converters here (in the USA) if things don't work when you arrive. The big-box discount stores here are Best Buy and Circuit City; the chain for electronic hobbyists is Radio Shack.

My macbook is grounded actually. Most if not all non-mac laptops are ungrounded. A grounded adapter will fit all, so just get one of those.

Head-on battles
I'm just wondering about a rule in Diplomacy. If I support move somewhere, and someone else supports move from that place to the place of mine that is moving, with equal support, do we both just not move, do we swap, or what?

Thanks!

Newbie with a rules question:
Hi. I've noticed that you can only build new units in your original home supply centres. What happens if you lose all your home supply centres, but are still gaining territory abroad - are you prevented from creating new units unless you can re-gain your home SC's?
