Opinion on different map colors
I'm interested to know what people think of these colors, which apparently more commonly used on real boards these days:

Retreat Phase Suggestion
I know this has been brought up before, but I don't remember if there was support or not so I'll bring it up again. If a unit is dislodged and has no retreat options can we please change the code so a forced disband is automatic? It's incredibly annoying to wait on somebody to order his forced disband.

Bug?
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=6952

This seems pretty basic, but there's either a bug, or I don't understand the rules? Take a look at the Iberian peninsula. Shouldn't the English attack on Spain cut the support to Mid-Atlantic Ocean?

"Researchers are now working on "soldier bots" which would be able to identify targets, weapons and distinguish between enemy forces like tanks or armed men and soft targets like ambulances or civilians."

Paused Games
My game got paused because Germany got banned. We all said /unpaused but Italy hasn't said it yet, so it hasn't unpaused. Is it just going to stay in limbo forever or what?

Debate This
I would like to change the religion subject just a little by bringing up some videos about a certain organization. "Conservatives" and "Democrats" alike should have fun with this thread.

That's my understanding of what we idolatrous Catholics believe.

It isn't adultery. It would only be adultery if one of them was married.

But there's the reasonable

opposition to homosexuality. According to the church, it isn't even a sin to be gay, just to have gay sex like any other person having sex outside marriage. Sodomy is secondary to that.

You never know. In 1861 they were using tactics 46 years out of date that were invented by the loser of the previous major war.

invictus, hate and fear are somewhat connected no? you are narrowing the definition in your argument if you say "fear" is actually being scared of something in a cliche crying, running away from and biting ones fingernails kind of way. one can fear something and have that fear turn to aggression and hate.
homophobes fear gays, they fear what acceptance of homosexulaity would do to society, they are not "scared" of homosexuals as one might be scared of sharks or the dark or ghosts etc.

im no biblical scholar but i was sure the bible had some bit in it about how it was wrong for joshua to get jiggy with john behind the temple wall.

=============================================
They didn't. I meant Napoleon.
Invictus (240 D)

It's just a misleading word, sean. Homophobia is not a phobia. These people don't fear gays like I fear fish. I'm an ichthyophobe. When they're around me in the water, at least. They might fear the so called "Homosexual Agenda" (which is mostly nonsense), but it's not the same.

Do people who hate black people suffer from negrophobia?

I just think it's an inappropriate word for how these sorts of people feel.
DrOct (219 D(B))

Etymologically you are probably right Invictus, it's is probably somewhat accurate, but culturally it has a meaning that everyone knows, understands and accepts. It's not like when you say it people get really confused about what you mean. Even if it doesn't quite make sense from the standpoint of etymology it doesn't mean it's "meaningless." Plenty of words, especially in their current usage and meaning, don't always make total sense from the standpoint of etymology, and there are even some words that were simply made up, with no roots in anything, that people use today just fine (of course now I'm having trouble thinking of any... which of course kind of undermines my point I guess but I know every once in a while in history classes or whatever you encounter a word that some author or something just made up that we still use today.).

That being said, I'm not necessarily against the idea of coming up with another term, but for the moment I think Homophobia does the job just fine even if it doesn't totally describe what people mean it to when you break down it's roots.

How did we go from discussing scum that we all agree are terrible, to linguistics?

Homophobia is mostly a way pro-gay activists/politicians use to describe what they see as ueber conservative people who the liberal individuals claim oppose gay rights because they're afraid of gays. While homophobia is unfortunately the only culturally salient term for any sort of behavior/thoughts/expressions relating to the subject, it's really just a loaded word intended to be a political tool. Hence why liberals call so many conservatives homophobes, said conservatives claim they just disagree with it, then it comes down to something about conservatives/Christians hating gay people (unfortunately, some misguided souls obviously do hate people for such inane reasons). Of course recently it seems to end up with the ueber conservative politician turning out to be a gay child molester, so Lord help us. Oh, and to the Democrats who are so fond nowadays of pointing out such conservatives, keep in mind the first gay member of the House of Representatives who was open while in office was found to be sleeping with a minor (a paige, exact same situation as that Republican pervert from Florida a few years ago) and continued to be elected to another 20-odd years in office. The molestation happened, and was exposed and admitted to, during his first year of office. Another point, somewhat off-topic here, would be that certain political groups choose people for certain labels regardless of their merit. Many liberals will vote for someone just because they're black, gay, female, etc. Likewise many ueber right-wing Republicans (and that description is coming from a Catholic) will vote for anyone who runs on a "family values" platform, even if they want to love nothing more than starting random wars in random countries and needlessly sacrificing our fine men and women in uniform.

Anywho, that's my rant.

Work has got me somewhat busy right now, just popping in to point out a mistake I just noticed in my post above, I said in my first sentence "it's is probably somewhat accurate" when that should have read "INaccurate" sorry for the mix up there, hope it was clear from context to everyone what I meant to say!

Games don't draw while paused?
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=6969
The game got screwed up because of a failed attempt to pause (which later passed); we then voted to draw and were told the draw would come into effect in 5 minutes, but it hasn't happened and our best guess is that that the game can't be drawn while paused.

(a) that seems wrong. If we've voted to draw, then it should come into effect regardless of a pause. (b) can we get the game ended?

GFDT needs your help!
A player has had to drop out of the tournament in the early years of round 1. Is there any soul out there willing to take up his mantle and carry on the struggle for him?

Links to the games will be in the first post. If you're willing to take up these positions, drop me a line at [email protected] ASAP. It'd be a pity to play a tournament game with a CD.
