Cancelling a game or extending duration of turns
Hi there, is there any way to do the following?
1) Cancel a game in progress. (We started our first game mostly to test the user interface, and didn't realize that it would get underway in 24 hrs...Which leads into the next question...)
2) Change the duration of each turn from 24 hrs? We'd like to get longer turns, say 2-3 days...

Thanks!

Total Games Played
I like how in peoples profiles you can see how many games have been won by a certain player but i would like it if there was a total games played one as well so that we don't have to scroll down and count them all manually.

I'm sure there are other stats that people would like to know about players that could be placed in the profile, and I'm sure people are going to use this thread to post them hope these ideas can be implemented soon :)

Build phase passed over due to recent problem
In at least one game, Free#1, the build phase was passed over. The game went from Autumn 1901 Diplomacy to Spring 1902 Diplomacy - the retreat phase, if needed, was also bypassed

Moving.. again
I'm wasting more money fixing problem after problem than it costs to put phpdiplomacy.net into the hands of professionals, so I decided to splurge on some relatively expensive hosting at dreamhost.com, which is well known for stability and generally being a premium host.

Sorry about this, I really hope this is the last move phpdiplomacy.net has to make..

Victory conditions
Do the victory conditions say you have to have 18 SC's or 18 units?
I know the game runs off the second, but in game:
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=178
I have taken over far more than 18 SC's, but I couldnt create the units because at the time Russia was being very awkward with his forces.

"Isn't standing"
Autumn 1913, Diplomacy: Your army at Munich recieved stand support from the army at Bohemia, but couldn't accept it because your army at Bohemia isn't standing.

My A Boh was is position and not attacked, what's all this about?
undef (1390 D)
13 Feb 07 UTC
The army at Munich should have been ordered to "hold".
Worldbeing (1063 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
Ahh, that'd explain it.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
Is this a relatively recent change then? I'm sure I've used a unit to support hold or support move (or even move) when I'm pretty sure it'll be repulsed, and support held it from elsewhere.
Merano (2046 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
at least it was so when I joined 2 weeks ago - so no recent change
Salmaneser (6160 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
Has been this way always I think.
But they're working on a new code, so you can support everything that doesn't 'move'.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
Its always been like this. Do you think it should be made to all non-moves are support held then? If so, I think i could work that out quite soon for you, as an update for this version - kestas is currently working on the new version.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
Well, we should stick to the official rules, I don't know how they'd rule on this.
But I know that if I'm support holding a unit that hasn't moved (because its own order failed), I'd expect it to accept that support.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
Well, from what i know i believe its that if the unit moves it cannot have hold support, but the other 3 move types can.
comments?
Worldbeing (1063 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
In that case, I should still have Munich.
that unit was supporting a move. It didn't move itself. So it should have been supportable.
Merano (2046 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
don't mix up the current implementation of the rules with the official rules

in the current implementation, only an army that was ordered "hold" can be given "support hold"
Worldbeing (1063 D)
14 Feb 07 UTC
I know what happened and why in this instance, we're now discussing what should be made to happen- which involves making it official rules compatible.

It's not true that I'm working on the new version. :( I had time to devote to 0.75 over the hols but I won't have another large chunk of time like that for a while.

I expect 0.8 will be a piece by piece upgrade so I can fit it in with everything else. Fixes to the adjudicator will probably be in the order of fixed coast support, support holds can be applied to any non-moving unit, improved order handling, and finally convoys.

Thanks for your input and so on, you're very thorough beta testers :)
figlesquidge (2131 D)

O, sorry then!
I have some hols v soon, so I should be able to get ahead of my work and get some more stuffs onto here during then. So, more upgrades coming soon...
Ralyndi (1106 D)

Okay. I've lost some units this way too. I'm pretty sure you can support s'long as it's not going anywhere. ;)
Worldbeing (1063 D)
15 Feb 07 UTC
OK, now I'm getting really confused.
A unit that has been attacked cannot attack itself, right?
So how come when I attack two provinces (Munich and Marseilles) that could attack my A Burgundy, this breaking their chance of attacking, the support move of my A Burgundy is broken?
Worldbeing (1063 D)
15 Feb 07 UTC
Spring 1907, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Spain attempted to attack the army at Marseilles, but failed.
Spring 1907, Diplomacy: Your army at Burgundy was attacked by the army at Marseilles, but sucessfully defended.
Spring 1907, Diplomacy: Your army at Ruhr prevented the army at Munich from giving a support move.
Spring 1907, Diplomacy: Your army at Burgundy was attacked by a army at Marseilles, and had to defend itself, so couldnt support a move elsewhere.

So my A Ruhr stopped the A Munich from supporting a move, but my F Spain attacking Marseilles didn't stop them attacking and breaking my suport move.

Now, I know what you're going to say is that it has to be a successful attack to stop the defendant carrying out its order. But it's not- a support hold or move can be broken with 1 unit, and I swear I've broken direct attacks with 1 unit before.

>So how come when I attack two provinces (Munich and Marseilles)
>that could attack my A Burgundy, this breaking their chance of
>attacking, the support move of my A Burgundy is broken?
Attacking a unit doesn't stop that unit from attacking. Attacking a unit stops it from supporting or convoying, but not attacking.

Munich support move into Burgundy from Marseilles
Burgundy support move into ?? from ??
[Spain]->[Marseilles]->[Burgundy]
[Ruhr]->[Munich]

- Ruhr is moving into Munich, and Marseilles is moving into Burgundy. Unless Munich is supporting a move against Ruhr or Burgundy is supporting a move against Marseilles both support moves get canceled out right away.

- You're left with just [Spain]->[Marseilles]->[Burgundy]
[Ruhr]->[Munich], which all cancels out and leaves no-one moving.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
15 Feb 07 UTC
The point is that the order given to Burgundy was prevented (a support move into Paris from Picardy).
This order should have carried through, because there was no unit capable of attacking Burgundy, as both of those adjacent (Marseilles and Munich) were being attacked- and if they are being attacked, surely they must defend themselves and are therefore incapable of attacking and thus breaking a suport move.

Hmm I looked it up just to be sure, see page 11 diagram 18 of the rulebook; "even though the Germany Army in Munich is dislodged by a Russian attack, it is still able to cut the support of the Russian Army in Silesia"

Not a problem with the adjudicator, for once ;)
dangermouse (5551 D)

No. An army can break another unit's support even if it itself is attacked.
Germany: A Munich to Burgandy, A Marseilles supp Munich to Burgandy, F Western Med to Spain
France: A Spain to Marseilles, A Paris to Burgandy.
This will result in all units bouncing out of burgandy. Spain's attack on Marseilles breaks Marseilles ability to support but Spain cannot move into marseilles because there is a unit there. Western Med's attack on Spain does nothing as the army currently in Spain does not move out and thus it is a 1 v 1 battle. This leaves Paris and Munich both attempting to move into Burgandy. Since they are equally matched, they bounce.
The adjudicator is 100% right.

figlesquidge sent in a patch that fixes this, so now you can support hold any unit which isn't moving. Good job :)
Ralyndi (1106 D)
21 Feb 07 UTC
Attacks are applied before everything else, therefore no matter what happens, attacks cannot be cut. Supports, however, can be cut by attacks. I believe that's how the official rules work. =)

There are paradoxes and so on, trying to eliminate all of each type of move in one go just doesn't work in an adjudicator, you have to take a decision based approach; you ask "can I resolve this move?" if it depends on another move "can I resolve this move?" and so on. Then if you've resolved all moves that don't depend on other moves, but there are still moves left, then you have a paradox. Paradoxes involve multiple moves and are detected and resolved in one go, and then you continue selecting moves at random and asking "can I resolve this? what does it depend on? can I resolve this?"

This is how an adjudicator should be written, all attempts to do it other ways (including the way the my current one works) end up going nowhere fast, so somewhere in the future there'll have to be big changes made, if not a rewrite

Failure to move phase
In http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=218 I logged on with 5 mins until the end of the phase.
I quickly filled in my orders, which I'd worked out but not entered earlier, and finalised. I'm the last to finalise, but after refreshing at least twice it was still on the old phase.

Password protected games grossly excessive
I just looked at the 12 Joinable Games and saw that all were restricted. It seems that there should be a better balance. As a newcomer and, therefore, outsider, I find this annoying if not insulting. While I understand experienced players don't want to have their games ruined by "unlettered rustics who just fell off the turnip truck", their behavior in the restricted games isn't all that impressive judging by the number of civil disorders. Also, I think they would get a little tired playing with themselves all the time. So I recommend that new games be posted with statements as to the minimum experience level needed. There could also be statements as to the time zone of the originator or other "common interests" requests.

Passwords
As several people have been posting single post threads giving the password for games where people no longer wanted to restrict membership, such as once all the people it was designed for were in. This thread should be used to keep them together. Please dont post a conversation in here, just the name, password and possibly a line on the games style, if there is one (such as Allies-Axis).

stalemate bug?!
Last autumn I was about to finnish off France in the game The Great Powers ( http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=332 ), but I got this message in my GameMaster chat afterwards:
Autumn 1904, Diplomacy: Your army at Piedmont attempted to move into Marseilles but there was a stalemate.
That would mean that France, with its last unit still standing in Spain tried to move to Marseilles and it came to a stalemate. However, the strange thins is that France had only one unit left standing (in Spain) and in the next spring France is of course destroyed, but suddenly it turns out that I lost Portugal to France. How can France both cause a stalemate in Marseilles and take Portugal from me at the same time?!

Would it be easy to add an option where players can edit their own posts in this forum. Several times I've read over what I just submitted and smacked my head at something I had or had included, etc.

Anyway, it's certainly not pressing...just a thought.

Code changes
I've fixed an issue with game joins that was pointed out earlier, and Alex (not sure what his alias here is) submitted a cool patch which updates the game notification box and chatbox tabs, so when a user comes online or when a game changes you won't have to refresh before it becomes apparent.

There were some other updates here and there, which I can't remember exactly what they changed, so let me know if anything is out of place.

Just a quick question; what status has Kiel?
Is it a canal province, coastal, or what? There seems to be naval access from the Baltic and Heligoland Bight, but I've never seen it noted as a canal province.
