Is the voter fraud investigation a distraction?
Is it Republican Data mining? Beating a dead horse? Or all of the above. It feels like its designed to help Republicans gain shitloads of unsolicited free information about voters. Why else would they need such data? Why not trust the states - many of which are Red states to uphold fair elections.

New player - submitting support orders
Hi. Could someone please explain the syntax for submitting a support order? It shows up as: Army at X support move to Y from Z.
So, X is the supporting army. But is Y the Army that is being supported or the territory that they are attacking?
Thanks!

GB 3 Game Tournament
Being in the middle of a pretty long, drawn-out game, I feel the need to flex some tactical muscle. I'd like to propose a 3 game, semi-anon, 24 hour phase, WTA series. Preference is for a high reliability (<80%) and moderate to high GR. 25 to 50 point buy-in. Once we get the 7, games will be created and PW messaged out.

1) Hamilton Brian RR 98%, general GR position of 177

Magic Money Trees
The UK's totally bankrupt Prime Minister, Theresa May, told nurses they couldn't have a pay rise because "there isn't a magic money tree".

But this week there was £1.5 billion of magic money to give to some extreme-right Northern Irish homophobes with strong connections to terrorism.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

..and today, the Queen is being given an extra £6 million of magic money.

There is a magic money tree after all, as long as you're part of the corrupt establishment and can use the magic money to help the powerful cling on to power.

To expand on this:

Labour proposed re-nationalising the Royal Mail. The Conservatives estimated this would cost £0.8bn and said "there is no magic money tree".

The Conservatives have handed £1.5bn to the DUP to stop Mrs May's minority government from collapsing.

Labour opposed cuts to Carers' allowance. The Conservatives said a £0.54bn cut was necessary, because there isn't a "magic money tree"

The Conservatives have handed £1.5bn to the DUP to stop Mrs May's minority government from collapsing.

Labour proposed free nursery access for all children. The Conservatives said this would cost £0.33bn, and there isn't a "magic money tree".

The Conservatives have handed £1.5bn to the DUP to stop Mrs May's minority government from collapsing.

The Conservatives made over 10,000 police officers redundant in the past 7 years. Labour proposed bringing these numbers back by recruiting 10,000 new officers. The Conservatives said that would cost £0.3bn, and there isn't a "magic money tree".

The Conservatives have handed £1.5bn to the DUP to stop Mrs May's minority government from collapsing.

Amazing how a magic money tree suddenly grows when your grasping, self-serving apology of a Prime Minister is desperate to cling on to power.

Disgusting. The Conservatives must go.

The fascistic forces have been effectively forced back in France, and Germany is likely to follow suit later this year.

All across europe we've seen the rise of far right nationalistic forces (The EDL, and UKiP in england) and all across europe we've seen them fail.

@Dippy: The point is that during the election Mrs May said there was no extra "magic" money at all. Now she's found £1.5 billion. Plus £6m for the Queen.

I never said that I disagreed with you @Jamie, although the £6m for Her Majesty was already budgeted for so it's not new money and (IMO) she's worth every penny.

The £1.5bn looks like new money, I agree. However, there is always a "magic money tree" with any Government. Either they increase taxation or increase public borrowing (or both). Neither is necessarily bad, provided the money is spent on things that generate economic growth. That growth then results in increased tax revenues later down the road, which will either repay the debt incurred or allow tax cuts.

Inevitably, it all boils down to political will. The Tories did not want to commit to increased public spending during the election, as this would have meant reversing seven years of stated policy. Had they done so then they would have been roasted - even more than they were. However, having had a "light toasting" at the hands of the electorate, it became politically easier (and necessary) for May to loosen the purse strings.

May 'lost' the election by about 750 votes in key marginals. Ironically, she could have given each one of them £1m to vote Tory and come out quids in. It would have breach electoral law but arguably would have been less morally repugnant.

That said, Labour can't claim any moral high ground. Their proposals were shameless (and quite successful) bribes of the electorate at large, just like Gordon Brown's £500 bung to every new parent in the early Noughties.

(Cheers, Gordo. It was appreciated!)

@Capt Brad: 20,000 fewer police under the Tories and your solution is to arm nurses? Should they be patrolling streets, or wards?

Thoughtful and balanced views, deeply dippy, interesting reading, imho. May I also pour scorn on this fallacious nonsense that assumes that anyone who criticises extreme Conservatives is axiomatically an extreme left winger
How does that go ?

diplomat61 (223 D)

@Capt Brad - the UK's illustrious leader, in her previous job as Home Secretary, oversaw a 20,000 reduction in the police force, cuts so deep that the army had to be called in to support them in the wake of the Borough Market attack. During the recent election campaign we had the unusual sight of the left proposing to reverse the cuts and the right arguing that was not necessary.
Octavious (2802 D)

@Jamie

I reckon you should give "ultra right wing conservative" pride of place on your profile, along side the "outstanding member of the community" comment :p.

Gosh, but there's a lot of nonsense posted in this thread. It almost makes me want to join in, but not quite.

The cuts to police do mark an unusual agreement between the Tories and Labour that police numbers were too high. Fair enough, I guess, as crime is remarkably low these days compared to what it used to be. You can forgive Labour for making a big fuss about restoring some of the numbers in an effort to disguise the fact that their plans would represent a significant cut to police numbers under Gordon Brown. Can't have the parties looking too similar now, can we? Especially when we're supposedly in the new era of clear difference. Except for trident, or Brexit, or the living wage...

Ora seems to think that the EDL had plenty of votes to lose. Not sure where he got that idea from.

Giving £1.5 billion to the DUP? Where do you get these ideas from? :p

Quick question, does anyone get annoyed by allies who send you messages saying really obvious things about what other countries did last turn or where you could easily get a SC. Basically all the information that is super clear that everyone could figure out but they decide to tell you anyways. Am I the only one who feels this way?
