Obama: The new Hitler?
Today, a member of the Republican party posted this to Twitter
"Even Adolph Hitler thought it more important than Obama to get to Paris. (For all the wrong reasons.) Obama couldn't do it for right reasons."

What Israel is For
http://news.yahoo.com/funeral-begins-four-jews-killed-paris-attack-101918527.html "The fresh violence has shaken the Jewish community in France, which numbers 500,000 to 600,000 people. French migration to Israel hit a record high last year of 6,600 people, and many believe the trend will accelerate after the Paris slayings." Say they're wrong in the West Bank--they are. Say the last war was miserable--it was. But THIS is what Israel is for in a world which is still hotly Antisemitic.

Pointless Question: Greatest military generals of classical antiquity?
Been puzzling me for a while. On the list there'd be Hannibal, Alexander, Scipio, Julius Caesar, Cyrus the Great. There are many I haven't heard of any names to add to the list?

Issue with the new "Preview" feature big map
I know that the stand-off X's on a regular big map are often not accurate (and that issues with the big map aren't related to the order resolution code; see threadID=494283), but I'm surprised to see the stand-off X's turn up in random places in the big map of the "Preview" feature. Why would they show up for no reason?

Vash's Political Survey
Since the political compass is not the best tool for determining actual political allignment. I am compiling my own survey of the webDip community's political standings. Please take this survey (which is more accurate IMHO): http://politics.beasts.org/scripts/survey (should take about 15 minutes) and post your results in the comments. Also, please don't let this devolve into a political argument thread. Thank You.

Did you see that US commentator on Fox News talking about Birmingham UK
He told the world in all seriousness that Birmingham UK was populated entirely by Muslims and it is a no-go area for non-Muslims.
Someone really should tell him to cancel his subscription to the Daily Mail,

I joined 2 games, one is 3 days long and the other 4. BOTH ARE AS ENGLAND! I don't want to play as England for probably at least two months for 2 games. The games are both still at the first turn. Is anybody interested in taking my place? Before you guys start if no one comes forward I will continue playing I made a commitment and I understand that. Mathematics question
h(x)=xe^x^2=xe^u with u=x^2 so u'=2x
So far so good. Now I thought the next step would be: h'(x)=(x+1)e^x^2*2x
Apparently it should be: h'(x)=x+e^x^2*2x
Why doesn't x get multiplied with the rest?

Russia bans transsexuals from driving

What the utter fuck is wrong with Russia's politics, that anyone would consider this backward policy acceptable. Ignorant peasants.

Ah gotcha phil_a_s, didn't know that was called gender in English.
Are you sure English words don't have linguistic gender though? I know there's just "the" and not "le" et "la" or "der", "das" und die", but a ship still sails steady as *she* goes, right? Isn't that because its linguistic gender is female?
TrPrado (461 D)
11 Jan 15 UTC
gender, n. - the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones).
sex, n. - either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and many other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions.
TrPrado (461 D)
11 Jan 15 UTC
(According to Google, and they're still listed as synonyms (synonym, n. - a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly (that's the word I want you to catch) the same as another word or phrase in the same language, for example shut is a synonym of close.))
phil_a_s (0 DX)
11 Jan 15 UTC
That's not quite linguistic gender, steephie. That's a certain personalization. Gender generally has some larger effects, and is an intrinsic property of each noun.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
11 Jan 15 UTC
The important word in your definition is "typically". That's why they are synonyms. They are the same, they are merely typically used to refer to something slightly different.
Yoyoyozo (95 D)
11 Jan 15 UTC
TrPrado, notice how they added the phrase in parentheses. Typically does not mean officially btw. This does not change the definition. Just because it is typically used does not make it official.

to respond to steephie, in 1954 that parentheses would not be there so it would probably just read "the state of being male of female"

um transgenders have extreme links with Schizophrenia according to multiple different studies, and the part of the brain that is effected in both cases also impairs motor skills. I'm not saying that it should be an immediate disqualification but then again, russia says you have to be 16 for motorcycles and 18 for cars so theyre always going to be more strict.
TrPrado (461 D)

Not surprising coming from that retarded country.

Though i agree with putin on being an arrogant douche with the title, "ignorant peasant".

Are you really using peasant as an insult?

lol look back at your own family 2 generations back, then think again about saying "ignorant peasants".
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

I've been thinking about that. Putin is right and so are you - on that specific detail. I withdraw my use of the word "peasant" and apologise if anyone was upset by it. I was very cross when I posted the thread, partly out of outrage over the topic at hand. I retract the use of "peasant".

I stand by my use of the word "ignorant".

ILN (100 D)

@invictus 2 for some, maybe 4 for others, my point was that except for a very very small minority, we all have rural, peasant roots going only a few generations back.
Octavious (2701 D)
12 Jan 15 UTC
Depends how you look at it, really. Statistically speaking we're probably all descended from royalty (and I add the word "probably" only because of a sneaking suspicion that one or two members are not of women born) as well as peasants and all in between.

@Yoyo you're plain wrong. Even 50 years ago, nobody said things like "I just wanna have gender with you"

@steephie krellin cum steephie is like krellin (together with steephie), "cum" is Latin
TrPrado (461 D)
12 Jan 15 UTC
Cum can mean a lot of things when you speak of Latin, although it is drastically different with English, since, I mean, it's a different language.
Yoyoyozo (95 D)

@x3n0n
Are you fucking stupid? Or are you trolling? Sex has 2 definitions. One of them is whether you are male or Female. Have you ever filled out a job application where they ask you what your sex is? How old are you?
TrPrado (461 D)
12 Jan 15 UTC
He's trolling. Get over yourself. Someone else made the same joke earlier.
Yoyoyozo (95 D)
12 Jan 15 UTC
Oh lol I just could not believe that someone would say that.
X3n0n (216 D)
12 Jan 15 UTC
exactly yoyo (and thx prado, you always get me right) Anyways, words can change and while sometimes it is wise to refer to original meanings one should sometimes just accept that being a gay chap today is entirely different form having been a gay chap 80 years ago.

in principle, yoyo, if you have the choice between (fucking stupid) or (just trolling) you are right with (just trolling) most of the time. except krellin. he's just incapable of trolling, a nice guy actually.

and sry, I missed that someone else made the joke already, didn't take the time to read the thread.

@trprado you should know that sexus and genus are very different concepts, even though they are referring to the distinctive characteristic.
