What do you mean by 'Democracy'?
Inspired by conversation with YJ I have taken upon myself the task of educating and discussing the concept of 'Democracy' with the community here. So, what do you mean by 'Democracy'? and conversely what things stop a system being 'Democratic'?

Disbanding units due to no orders.
If a player has units to destroy and he does not submit orders for it. How does the game choose which units are destroyed?

On "Elysium" and the Current Trend in "Message Movies/Shows/Books/Etc."
I'm curious if anyone here's seen the film, and if so, what they thought. I haven't...I've read the plot synopsis (though really I figured out most of it from the trailers that ran before Star Trek: Into Darkness) and read/seen reviews...and it seems like the kind if "message movie" I've grown to hate, namely, one with all the subtlety of a sledge hammer. If you've seen the film--fair or foul assessment? And what do you think of this trend in moves/books/etc.?

Things that piss you off that shouldn't......
....... when I'm entering an address on the internet and it asks for country of residence I want to select England so why can I only enter United Kingdom, do people in France write EU as their country of residence, it is utter bollocks.

As much as my instincts scream at me to do the exact opposite of what an American accent is telling me, I will remain a strong supporter of the Monarchy. Aside from anything else, I swore the oath when I took the Queen's shilling a few years back.

Strangely enough I quite like Salmon. His arguments may be about as robust as the border controls between The South and Ulster, but try as I might I can't force myself to dislike the man.

The currency problem could be as easily solved by ireland adopting the pound and rejoining the Union. When you guys left the ratio of right thinking folk to Londoners reached painful levels.

'When you guys left the ratio of right thinking folk to Londoners reached painful levels.' - trés amusant :)

I am a supporter of the monarchy insofar that they're an extremely powerful symbol and probably one of the few constants of 'British' national identity. Certainly worth keeping. Obviously they have good eggs and bad. I happen to think very highly of Elizabeth II. Like Octavious I have also technically sworn the oath, although it was only in the capacity of a university OTC.

Salmond is a slippery liar in my opinion. The majority of his arguments about Scottish independence are bunk, based on fantasy and pig-headed anglophobia. His personal integrity leaves something to be desired, even in a politician.

I would love to see the Irish rejoin the club. I like Irish people and think they have an enormous amount to contribute. I have always thought that the British Isles together is far stronger and better off than the British Isles divided. We share a great deal of heritage and culture.

Ah, the carefree days of the OTC. The Wednesdays out in the gentle rain, the weekends out in the heavy rain, and the summer weeks out in the torrential downpours! How I miss them...

What part of the country where you? I was at Wyvern barracks with the Exeter and Plymouth uni lot.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

@Hereward, i'm all for a strengthening of the Union, i think that the shared culture and heritage is a great thing, and economic prosperity will come from a better fairer union.

But then i'm talking about Europe not the British Isles...

I struggle to find a shared culture and heritage with nations that have failed to grasp the concept of a pub. If the EU could be divided between those who appreciate good beer and those more likely to enthuse about the delights of eating strange things scraped off the seabed and drowned in olive oil, I could quite possibly get behind the idea.

I was also at Wyvern barracks with the Exeter and Plymouth lot. I went to Exeter, Streatham Campus. What a small world we live in.

I find I share very little with Europeans. All the EU is really is a construct to stop the French and Germans killing one another, which is in opposition to the traditional British policy!
Octavious (2701 D)

@ Hereward

I'm convinced that the only reason Lukies where allowed to exist was so that Exeter could claim to have multiple campuses. In reality Streatham was pretty much it. I'm convinced those rumours of a place in Cornwall were completely made up for the same reason.

Oh Exeter.
Oh Exeter!
Is wonderful.

Good. It has been proven that smiling causes wrinkles and too much smiling leads to one having a tell at the poker table.

So, I'd like to get a live game going, but nobody seems to be joining. Is it because there are preferred settings for live games, or is this just a bad time to start one?

A Simple Question
Suppose we broke up into real-life nations based on that basic political spectrum test a lot of us just took, so there'd be a Nation of Krellin & Co., a Nation of Abgemacht and Associates from the Green Corner, etc. Aside from the fact every Green Corner citizen (I can't tell if your corner is blue or pruple, krellin--damn colorblindness!) would want to kill me...would this be for the better, Likes with Likes, or would this just lead to worse consequences?

Choosing the side of the secularists
There's a lot of turmoil in the Arab world at the moment. Many sides are combatting each other everywhere: sunni muslims, shii muslims, druzes, Coptic Christians, Israelis, Palestinians, military leaders and democratically elected ones.

So, an actual Diplomacy thread here! I'm comparing the large map to the normal map and see a few differences that can make a *huge* difference in orders. I'll point them out one at a time inside.
