Lando, there is exactly no reason to offend me or anyone here. Especially seeing how you got your ass handed to you.
And i doubt that Italy had a chance at a solo. Maybe i'd have lost Brest that last year but taken STP for it. England would have been out of the game the next year and i am pretty sure i could have stopped cspieker.

Well, I am being in honest when I say I believe Germany played a terrible game and that Italy should have solod had it continued.

I am also surpsied that upon arriving that Italy didn't see that Austria was the only player disrespectful enough to not vote to cancel after his NMR. Why would he not choose to attack the one player who is not respecting him?

I never vote cancel. I'd have kept my draw vote if Italy hadn't returned. That's my policy. If you don't like it, leave the site, because I'll be playing in a whole lot of games.

Why would you enjoy playing broken games other than in the odd chance it might benefit you and you can make yourself feel better? Lord knows you can't beat real players so you just wait for CDs and then dick out and not vote cancel with everyone else?

I can't stop you playing here but I can question your ethics, and you appear to be a sociopathic asshole who takes pleasure from the pain of others.

I'll explain for the benefit of others.

If a player CD's at the start, it's usually because he's been allotted a weak power like Russia, Italy or Austria. If such game was canceled, it would mean encouraging such behavior, which I won't do. Therefore, I vote draw. If the CD turns into an NMR, a seven-way draw would mean the same thing, so in that case, I lift my draw and play on. It's pretty simple, actually.

I wasn't worried about Austria being disrespectful. I was more worried about my own culpability in ruining the game. Thus, I put up draw and cancel to show that I was happy to go along with whatever the others decided. But after that my main goal was to try to fix my mistake by making the game competitive again.

And that was the right attitude, cspieker. You NMR, you deal with it. And you dealt with it pretty well, I must say.

I agree with Lando. My policy is to always cancel until builds 1903. After taht if there is a dick who wants to play, I'll play, but I give everyone a chance to cancel so there can be a clean game. If you fear people canceling because they get Austria, Italy or Russia then play with a better class of players.

You are lucky! I was just seconds too late, I think, from entering moves that would have dropped me into Trieste in Fall 1901. :-)

Not trying to diminish my shame or anything, but here is the bright side to my fuck-up. I find that after playing way too many of these gunboats that they can get pretty stale if everybody follows along with the standard moves. If someone NMR's right off the bat if throws everything out of whack and creates new problems and new solutions. As long as the NMRer comes back fairly promptly I think the games are usually still pretty interesting. Of course, there are usually some innocents who get screwed, like in this game with Lando getting out of position by making a break for Tunis, but really that kind of luck happens in any game where someone makes a weird move. Someone is hurt. Someone is helped.

But that is the bright side. I still suck for not paying close enough attention to my commitment for this game.

Actually, I remember a good player saying that the best tactic for Italy might be to stay put during the first year.

Though I don't think it is the optimal strategy for Italy, I do think that Italy might be the best country to NMR through 1901 with. I played another game a while back as Italy where I misordered in Fall 1901 and sent Ionian back to Naples instead of to Tunis, and I was the first one eliminated. :-|
