This conversation is considered resolved.
"[name], I'm sorry you don't understand, but given our past interactions, I suspect you don't actually care and are just looking to waste my time. This conversation is considered resolved."

Can someone explain why I keep seeing this in basically every thread (not to me, mind; just in general)? Did someone keep saying it and now it's sort of an ironic in-joke? I don't understand!

If you know evolution is true why haven't you grown wings?
Well????
This is a question I love to put to armchair scientists on Internet forums. It puts an end to their ignorant bullshit before it even gets a chance to start.

Video Game Music
Since there seem to be a bunch of video gamers on here I was curious if anyone else had a favorite theme from a video game.

I personally love the opening theme from Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the states).

Teaching Gravity in School
Gravity is not proven and is called the theory of gravity, not the law of gravity. Since its only a theory it shouldn't be taught in school as there is insufficient evidence to prove that things fall towards the ground when dropped.

What if the power of a god were proportional to the number of followers he has?
Assume the god/gods of each religion have divine power proportional to the number of followers. Assume also that gods can carry out divine intervention.
What would happen to the world? Please only consider religions that have a considerable following in the modern day.

My game isn't rolling over the turn after everyone readies up.
I haven't played in a while but I'm pretty sure that was a standard feature (And if it isn't, why not?).

Walking Dead redeemed?
Just watched the season finale and it almost makes watching the rest of the show worth it. I won't give you any spoilers but, if you're watching it because you're a fan of the comic and keep waiting for it to get good, watch the finale.

You're Running For President of the United States and...
you just got your party of choice's nomination. You've got a fairly tough general election with a controversial but somewhat popular incumbent. What's your platform to win the election?
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

You don't.
History tells us, unless the incumbent is very unpopular, he gets a second term.

I'm the nomination for green communists, it doesn't really matter what platform i campaign on, i'm doomed...

having spent some time watching the west wing recently, i realise that a small modification to the US electoral college system would make a huge difference to presidential campaigning.

Have each state split it's electoral votes based on the % of people in that state voting for each candidate: so if there are 3 votes from your state, and the vote is split 51%(D):49%(R) the D would get 2 votes and the R would get 1 (not 3 and 0, as i understand the current stupid system works...)

That would make campaigning in swing states less important, because EVERY state would be closer to having a swing electoral vote, and not ~53 potential votes to be gained or lost on the swing of a small vote... </rant>
My platform is moderate and centrist. I am clean and wholesome, while not condemnatory of those choosing to live differently than me.

Within a two-week period, several attractive, clean-cut former White House staffers of both genders come forward to accuse the sitting President of rape and other criminal activity. Some express fear for their safety due to the President's alleged boasting that he is commander in chief and can get the military and/or the CIA to do whatever he wants. Shortly thereafter, and before there is an opportunity for significant interviews/investigation, the accusers disappear. One body turns up with a double tap to the back of the head. A former member of Seal Team 6 goes public to confirm the allegations of a presidential hit squad, then also disappears. This happens in around September of the election year.

I am deeply disturbed by this very serious set of events, but remind the public that in America everyone, even the President, is innocent until proven guilty.

I think I'd be a decent candidate in Sweden where I live. I'm a social democrat and my major concerns are feminism, LGBT rights, animal rights and environmental concerns. I'd be stoned in America.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

I'd run as a Republican with a socially libertarian, fiscally conservative, economically libertarian, strong defense message. I think that would be a guaranteed win in the hypothetical situation I described above.

The two main things holding the Republicans back is their uncompromising social conservatism and their stubborn opposition to tax increases.
Invictus (240 D)

How can your MAJOR concerns be feminism, LGBT rights, animal rights and environmental concerns? Surely things like economic issues matter more than how nice kennels are.

I would run on a platform of eliminating excise taxes on booze, and lowering the drinking age to 18. That should at least throw it to the House of Representatives.

"History tells us, unless the incumbent is very unpopular, he gets a second term."

Not quite. The first George Bush was decently popular, and only lost because Ross Perot took votes from him. To a lesser extent this was true with Bill Clinton winning his reelection too, since he didn't win a majority then either and Perot took votes from Dole. In 2004 Bush was pretty unpopular but still managed to win. In 1976 Ford was pretty popular and lost. Also keep in mind that the only time we've had three two term presidents in a row was Jefferson-MAdison-Monroe and they were all in the same party.

Saying Obama will definitely win is just as crazy as saying he'd definitely lose. It will be close, it will be competitive.

Horrified
OK, I've finally found something on the internet so insanely terrible and godaweful that I am absolutely horrified and disgusted by it. This simply should not exist - and I consider it proof that there is indeed no God. I don't know what else to say. Not for the faint of heart!

Help: Google Spreadsheets for Gunboat Series
Seeing as the 5 Gunboat Challenge idea has become so popular I thought I would put a bit more work in to making it special so I created a public spreadsheet, with a full roster, useful information, and full reference of game information, including participants and game links.

Invasion of privacy or not?
Interesting article on prospective employers forcing interviewees to show them facebook profiles etc. Do you guys feel this is an invasion of privacy or something legitimate for corporations to be doing now?
