Thanks for the game guys, I really enjoyed it.
Maniac, great alliance and sorry for the stab. I had a secured position in the Med so I had to go for the solo.

Neutrino speed
' [R]esearchers at the CERN lab near Geneva claimed they had recorded neutrinos, a type of tiny particle, travelling faster than the barrier of 186,282 miles (299,792 kilometers) per second.
Now it seems Einstein's reputation has been restored after a source close to the experiment told the US journal Science Insider that "A bad connection between a GPS unit and a computer may be to blame." UNQUOTE - Daily Telegraph 2/23/12

webDip F2F 2012?
We started planning Boston F2F in December, so we appear to be behind... or is the plan to crash World Diplomacy Championship at Weasel Moot VI : http://www.facebook.com/events/237129306368896/

I have a 15 month old little girl and so there would have to be a lot of begging before the WDC can happen, but a tournament in St. Louis, MO?
I'm there. I've cast the first vote.
Sandgoose (0 DX)
18 Feb 12 UTC
Or Seattle WA...I cast the first vote on that myself... maybe next year.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
18 Feb 12 UTC
Sandgoose, did you go to WACcon?!

I can do Boston sometime this summer. F2F would be a great idea.

Why not crash Huskycon?
TheWizard (5364 D(S))

If anyone can organize a spot in Boston again, I'd be happy to run the tournament / TD.
Sandgoose (0 DX)

I couldn't I had job training MM, I explained it on Facebook to the group. I was really looking forward to going :(
yebellz (729 D(G))

My vote is in for Boston. Pandemonium is always an option but hopefully we would be able to find a swankier place like last year.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
19 Feb 12 UTC
Sandgoose, my memory is crap, and I can't keep track of everything on this site, I don't even try, kind of like how I don't even try to figure out who people are in an anonymous game, it's just more work that I don't have time for. :-)

Boston was great, but I thought the majority wanted to move it around each year?
I suggested Listowel, ON, but that didn't seem to take ...
yebellz (729 D(G))
19 Feb 12 UTC
@MM, yeah, it would probably be more fair if did move around in order to give more people from different areas the opportunity to attend. However, it'll probably just come down to what ever is convenient to whoever steps up to make arrangements and organize things.
Ernst_Brenner (782 D)
20 Feb 12 UTC
I'd vote for Weasel Moot, since I'm pretty sure I'm going to that.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
20 Feb 12 UTC
i mean. im willing to try to make it to wherever.

some ideas:

vegas
saint louis
austin
boston
seattle
houston
or something

let's be real the location last year was perfect, the venue i mean. i'm interested in the idea and i can look into making arrangements in austin or houston if there is interest for those spots.

also i'll be 21 this summer, finally.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

I have no problems with you guys crashing Boston Massacre (June 23-24). If you choose to do another one, I can help you get in contact with the organizers if you don't have their info. Hit me up if you're interested in Massacre, though!

Is HuskyCon happening this year?
coeus559 (278 D)
21 Feb 12 UTC
Last I knew, HuskyCon was tentatively planned for Aug 17-19 (the week after World DipCon in Chicago). I'll check in about that and verify.
cbrand (133 D)
21 Feb 12 UTC
http://www.thenadf.org/grandprix/2012-grand-prix-schedule does give those dates for HuskyCon, but seems to be the only place with any actual dates...
gramilaj (100 D)
21 Feb 12 UTC
I will also be at WDC, so my vote is for that. BTW, if anyone is considering attending, pre-registration saves you $10: http://windycityweasels.org/wdc
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
21 Feb 12 UTC
Hey, gramilaj, Jim O'Kelley told me in Seattle you've been talking shit about me, what gives?! ;-)
gramilaj (100 D)
21 Feb 12 UTC
Haha, I'm just starting the WDC mind games a little early.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
21 Feb 12 UTC
Well, thanks for nothing, Jim decided to kick my ass all over the boards in Seattle, and just because I decided to harass him indefinitely for no reason whatsoever, talk about being over sensitive... BUT, I did get Jim to admit that if we play again he's just going to give me Scandinavia straight away, to save us both from *years* of frustration and fighting, so I guess I've started those very WDC mind games a bit early myself!
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
21 Feb 12 UTC
Hey Wiz, can you honestly believe that Jim had the nerve to call me stubborn, *me*?!?!
JimTheGrey (968 D(S))
22 Feb 12 UTC
We'd love to have a big crowd of WebDippers (is that what we call ourselves) at the WDC at Weasel Moot in August (Aug. 10-12 at the Congress Plaza Hotel). The venue is right downtown in Chicago, and it should be a great tournament. Central location, five rounds of Diplomacy, and the opportunity to play for the World Championship. Plus, I'll throw in Scandinavia. Check out www.windycityweasels.org/wdc for more info.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
22 Feb 12 UTC
Damn it, Jim, you already promised *me* Scandinavia, typical F2Fer short-term memory! ;-)
coeus559 (278 D)
22 Feb 12 UTC
Jim may promise you Scandanavia now, but don't think that he won't come take it back later! Don't trust him!

Seriously, though, you should head to WDC in Chicago, if you possibly can. If it's anything like the previous events that the Weasels have put on, you will surely enjoy your time there.
TheWizard (5364 D(S))
22 Feb 12 UTC
Jim never promised me anything :(
But I sure agree with him about mm being stubborn and a terrible ally. I hope alex gets scandinavia in the end.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
22 Feb 12 UTC
Wiz, Jim never said I was a terrible ally, and I've never been anything but good to you!!
Thucydides (864 D(B))
22 Feb 12 UTC
hm chicago is definitely cool.

maybe i can make that. maybe. i think school starts again right near there and god knows what im doing this summer but ill keep chicago on the brain. sounds fun.
TheWizard (5364 D(S))
22 Feb 12 UTC
aah... MM...buddy.... how should I break this to you...
no, I just can't. He never said that, you're right.
you also never have been anything but ... good... to me, ay.
Babak (26982 D(B))
22 Feb 12 UTC
lol... I love this thread... and its got my juices pumping and wanting to do some of these tournaments. maybe WDC this year. would be fun. I need to break my record of horrible FtF tournament performances since Boston!

speaking of which - I'll help any way I can with another WebDip FTF tourney... I'm cool with repeating Boston if we can't get TD/TMs organized for another city... last year was off-the-hook!

i'm going to try to stay in the loop on this - please lets do it again and not let it fall through the cracks!
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
22 Feb 12 UTC
Whisper st. louis, st louis.
And yeah, last year was off the hook for you, solo as Austria in 06.
cbrand (133 D)
23 Feb 12 UTC
@MM you mean you never heard Jim say you were a terrible ally
Thucydides (864 D(B))
23 Feb 12 UTC
I must have revenge on Babak for my miscalculation and his solo.

I have been unable to overcome my enduring shame now eight months hence :P
JimTheGrey (968 D(S))
23 Feb 12 UTC
@MM If you're going to insist on labels, then label me a PBMer. I cut my teeth on the postal hobby, and a postal player I'll always be. Truth be told though, I've done a couple of tours in the DipWorld online community, and while I don't have a current game going in either place, I also play at both stabbeurfou and playdiplomacy.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
23 Feb 12 UTC
@cbrand why on earth would Jim discuss my qualities as an ally when he and I never allied? Check and mate! Plus, everyone on this site knows I'm the best ally ever, you have no case, mate, even TheWiz cannot argue that fact, lol!!
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
23 Feb 12 UTC
Hey Babak, did you ever get that retraction memo, it was announced that I officially won Boston F2F, some unspoken F2F rule: He who tops the final table wins the tourney

Anyway, we'll have to do another webDip F2F Tournament, it's actually quite an adrenaline rush to win the damn thing, I think you'd enjoy it! ;-)
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
23 Feb 12 UTC
Damnit, Babak, you refuse to take the bait... Suppose I need better bait...

Is there a game option for a preference list or first come first serve?
Is there a game option for a preference list or first come first serve?I did not see it in the new game options. Getting random countries totally sucks. The first 3 times I got the countries I least wanted - the 4th time my country was ganged up on in the first turn. playdiplomacy.com has both options available for its game.

disabling notices for live games?
this must have been asked before, but is there anyway of disabling the move notices in live games? i don't care as much about the "you lost" or "player x won the game" messages, but what if someone sent me a message while the game was in progress? i might never get it, cause my homepage only displays the last i don't know, 20 messages or something, and those all get filled during the live game. or is there a way of seeing a history of older messages?
