Mod Question
So, if a player gets banned that you have played with, is there a system that reimburses points? for example a PPSC or a WTA that was drawn. Or is that out of the question? Just asking :)

Italy why the hell did you support France into tri giving him the solo?
Turkey proved that he didn't want to attack you anymore so your participation in the final draw was secured.

Hey all, I'm looking for 3 subs for the Masters tournament. It's currently stalled, and lots of players are (rightfully) frustrated. It's two games at most and they'd be starting ASAP. Reliable, experienced players preferred.

Classy? No. But I found the game to be pretty enjoyable. I had Italy pegged as PE and figured dumbdell to be in England. Thought for sure that either Russia or Austria was Putin as he played in the previous game and can be die-hard loyal- but I was wrong.

Sorry, dubmdell- I had to get to a corner and when I saw how attached at the hips A and R were I knew it was your corner that I needed.
Well, admittedly, I had fun with the tactical exercise. And it felt pretty epic. But yeah, that wasn't my best game, lol.

France gave himself away, I'm really disappointed with ava but he couldn't have seen what was coming so I'll give him a pass for a backfired aggressive opening.

Pretty sure I don't like the insinuation here. We happened to both go after Turkey, and then he became a buffer for me. He refrained from attacking me (mostly) when I left myself wide open so I chose to focus on more immediate. I've just about had it with this site. It is nearly impossible to play a game without some sore loser claiming meta. I don't know who Austria was, but if he out-played you suck it hell up. This community feels like a goddamn nursery half of the time.
TheJok3r (765 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
I dont think you can say that an 11 center Austria that couldnt defeat a 4 center Italy did any outplaying.
LOL. Outplayed, right. That's why despite facing AT LEAST 2:1 odds from 1903 on, I managed to hold onto my homeland while launching not one but two strong counterattacks into enemy territory.

And what he did wasn't "leave you alone," he went out of his way to let you rebuild your entire homeland and get all your home centers back. You have to understand this looks incredibly suspicious to put it VERY generously.
jacobcfries (783 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
Frankly, I don't give a shit who outplayed who. Barn3tt won. Kudos. The rest of us, including 1 SC me, lost. I'm just not going to suffer fools with their accusations of meta without defending myself.
The rest of us lost... mhm. You didn't even vote draw until the very end when you were getting eaten up by Austria. When *Germany offered a draw* you and Austria insisted on keeping on.

Losing in Diplomacy isn't a team effort. You and Austria basically threw the game to Germany by repeatedly refusing to draw when offered the chance and by continuing to attack me the whole time instead of letting me set up an adequate stalemate line.
jacobcfries (783 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
Yep. The rest of us lost, including you. I voted draw when I noticed it. Until now, I didn't know Germany ever offered one. Also, I fought with Germany. The whole time. Not you. Quit crying.
dubmdell (556 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
Gods, man, you have to always check the orders that are "hidden" on the mini-map and always check the flags that people are throwing up. How else can you get *anything* done in a gunboat? Damnit I offered you Norway *twice* and you ignored me completely, after I *gave* you St.P back. I'm with PE and Barn3tt, and Jok3r on this one.
...really? Germany had a draw vote up with England and me for two years. But no, you two had to keep going for no reason, and you blew up England's position by bothering him in St. Petersburg when he was the only one keeping the lid on Germany (and to your credit you tried... it was just a horrible attempt), and you kept bothering me with that fleet in the Mediterranean and committing it to harassing the only player who could seal Germany in the Mediterranean and prevent the solo.

Germany's winning center came off of you and you enabled the solo by chipping away at the only people who could stop him. You and Austria's terrible play - which certainly has the look of coordination well beyond the legal means in gunboat play - cost everyone else the game. You cannot escape either of those facts.

@dubmdell To be fair, I NEVER play gunboats. This is my...2nd time? So apologies for not knowing the protocol or reading the signals, but I'm used to messaging games. I'll take my knocks for poor play, but not for meta-gaming. But if my poor play means PE lost, well that's just a bonus then.
dubmdell (556 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
Jacob, it says more about you that you did not know Germany ever offered a draw than anything in this thread says about us.
jacobcfries (783 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
Ha. Class=Focus. You learn something new every day.
dubmdell (556 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
Okay, that makes a bit of sense. I can forgive this instance then. May I recommend, for everyone's sake, including your own, that you read up a little on gunboat communication? It could have saved us all some headaches.
Not knowing or recognizing the signals is one thing, shit happens. I'm sure I missed a couple signals in there.

It's more the fact that you and Austria served the game to Germany on a silver platter on some rather astonishing coordination (especially for only your second gb game and Austria's first ever...) that has everyone pissed and crying foul.
jacobcfries (783 D)
17 Feb 12 UTC
If you would just slow your roll for a minute and look at this from my point of view. I'm not him and have no idea what he was thinking. But when I'm down and out, getting crushed on one side from Germany, why would I fight Austria when he was busy with you? That would only seal my own fate. I'm not playing so that Italy might be Germany. I'm playing for myself. I didn't see the draw, my bad. And I obviously knew enough to know what this thread was about, particularly from the end, but I'd like to point out that he took from me when he needed to and I tried to get some of my territory back and couldn't. I'm guessing he, like you and Germany and England, knew I wasn't a threat. Don't what else to tell ya. Sorry the game was less enjoyable for you but I damn well didn't cheat and that's all that matters to me.

Lots of comments flying close to the rules in this thread.
If you're acquitted then I'll make a public apology on the forum. Until then you'll have to understand if I'm extremely suspicious.

As for the commentary on actual play, I wasn't asking you to fight Austria, nor was anyone else (although you had a couple of chances to really drop the hammer and passed - understandable, but obviously I'd have liked to see it). What I *was* asking you to do was to STOP TRYING TO ATTACK MY STUFF WITH YOUR FLEET. If I didn't have to worry about that damn fleet then I could have tied up Austria with 3 units and had enough leftover to go west and defend the line from the German advance. I wasn't asking you to "play for me," I was asking you to "play for" ALL of us trying to avoid the German solo, because it was your fleet that tied me up just enough to keep me from getting the centers we needed to stop Germany. Stopping Germany means you get the draw. It's playing for you. Instead, you kept harassing me for literally no gain, enabling Germany to take southern France and Iberia unopposed and solo. There's just no getting around that fact.

@PE, you should apologise regardless, your comment was essentially a public accusation. (And if the thread continues to be anything more than EOG beyond this point, I'll just lock it).

I'm not in the habit of discussing cases I handle. The email of "Thanks, I'll look into it." is all you'll get from me whether there was evidence warranting an email to the accused or not..
Well, I mean. If he's still around in a couple of weeks I'll know he was found innocent/otherwise allowed to stay. I'm not expecting to get notified of the results. lol

S'pose you're right though. Shouldn't have gone public with it. My apologies for that.

As my education is finished in one year, my interest is shifted to possible future employers. Since I'm still undecided about doing a PhD and I know there are quite a lot people here doing/having done them, I have a small question for all of you: Why did you choose to (not) do a PhD? Which factor played and important role and which only a minor one?
