I don't put much into "Human nature" You play out these situations hundreds of times you'll have hundreds of different results.

It'll take a long time, but I see two outcomes here. 1) Sanctions go down on Syria and they weather the storm of financial loss and attacks, using the army (which is now mostly Alawites and rich Sunnis) to suppress the population. Assad lives on and Syria becomes an odd mix of North Korea and Iran - sans nuclear weapons 2) Whether or not sanctions are put into place, the rebellion will become more militant. The people on the streets protesting peacefully will eventually be killed in numbers too great for them to tolerate, and they will either hide or join the militias. The government has little to no power over places beyond the main cities of Aleppo, Damascus, etc. Neighborhoods form their own defense groups along sectarian lines, and it turns into Iraq a la 2005

sanctions, at least "US" sanctions, could turn thing in favour of the government.

Arab league lead peacekeeping mission might have a chance of intervention.

Iran has a mutual defense pact with Syria. An unstable Syria is a back door to war with Iran. Just sayin...

Arab League won't move in. An Arab Laegue peacekeeping force is tantamount to Saudi Arabia sending troops in. Iraq certainly won't, and Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Tunisia, and Bahrain all have more trouble at home than they need. That leaves the Saudis and a few other small nations to put troops in there.
