We have a player in our game who is not going to be able to continue because he is too busy with work and just doesn't have time to commit to playing well.

Is there a way for the mods to substitute another account for his, or should we just have someone sit on his account for the remainder of the game?

I will post some remarks since there were some things I wasn't expecting.

The first is that I need to congratulate the west on eliminating Russia from the equation. No offense to Russia, but I'd have done the same thing. You were the low man on the pole preventing the game from consolidating to a 3-way draw and your units could easily be replaced. There's also no need to hold the 19-15 stalemate line that includes Moscow and Warsaw. It worked out well so that Russia can't throw the game for Turkey. I wasn't expecting to see this, but I was curious if it would happen.

Kudos to the 3-way draw, my EOG's are almost complete with information for every country as a whole.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
There won't be a three-way draw. I'm giving Yonni a part of it. I've rarely been put off by a player the way I have by Scmoo, and I refuse to give him the satisfaction. It might be somewhat petty of me, but Yonni has been one of the classiest players I've encountered on this site and I just couldn't bring myself to give Scmoo any form of satisfaction if it meant taking Yonni out.
I've played the map a million ways in my head and I can't win the game. Of course, I hate that I didn't try a hit on Spain during the last phase and I now know that I should have. That will be the last thing I learn from SoW.

EoG coming soon, but please be patient: RL is a lot to handle right now.

Yet you've been repetitively insulting me despite not even communicating with you at all, and yet I am the only bad person Cachimbo? I did what YOU wanted me to, and now you try to make me look like the bad man. What the hell kind of player are you, I made up my mind on how I would play against you, and it worked, just as I posted in Global, I played with your head enough to make you angry at me, and you snapped. I didn't, which honestly, a good diplomacy player would know that if you're going to do something, you need to stand firm, or fall into place, and you just fell. I'll post my EOG in a few hours, still in class.

Good game to Yonni/Pepjin and the others, enjoyed it, Cachimbo, excellent try for the solo, narrowly shut out, and this will be the last game between us, if you think you can insult me all the fucking time, and then if I make something smart back at you you can rage and throw in the towel, then you're not worth my time.
Just so you know, this was my last game on this site, so once my EOG is posted, I'm gone, and its not because of this game, rather because of RL.
So good game to all, and to all a good night.

Wow. Thanks.
I think the EoG really deserves a bit of effort on my part so I may not have it done by tonight but we'll see.

gg, everyone. Really very interesting.

Most of all, however, I learnt plenty and that really was the point of the game, right?

Also, I'd really like to thank everyone that organized this. Really enjoyed your commentary, Tru and, Bonotow, I'd like to thank you for TAing. I'll touch on the subject of TAing in my EoG and why we lost contact by the end of the game.

"I just couldn't bring myself to give Scmoo any form of satisfaction if it meant taking Yonni out. "

What satisfaction was I looking for? I didn't want to take him out, I posted to you multiple times that I wasn't going to do it. Once I talked it over with Germany, and made the plan to do it in 1 swift turn, I figured I would go for it, at least get the game over with. You wanted Yonni out, and Yonni knows it as much as I do. He even told me that you wanted him out. I would say I read you like a book, but I can't because I didn't, you were an exceptional opponent, but once the diplomacy factor came in you lacked where I excelled. And you got beat by me (someone who is apparently and arrogant, ignorant, asshole, prick) (by beating I mean, stopped of the win) So you're not of higher class player, so you can shut your mouth about trying to degrade the way I play.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
Hahaha! Cute...

You won? I knew from the get go my chances to solo were slim to none. I made one or 2 mistakes (or, rather, missed 1 or 2 opportunities) but all I was doing was playing out my position: I was part of the draw, had nothing to lose.

Also: you didn't make the draw happen on your own. Don't kid yourself. Had Germany and Russia played otherwise, the game would have been mine or ended the way it did. You didn't solo kid, you drew. There is no victory, not for you, not for me.

I did want a 3-way, of course! That's the way the game needed to be played. The whole time, however, I kept talking with Yonni and tried to politely explain to him what I was doing and why. I respected the player and I believe it made the end-game more interesting for him and I (of course, I presume... he would have to tell you). I doubt you gave him so much courtesy...

As for the insults I've thrown you: if I have outright insulted you, I must have been quite pissed. Most people I've played and who have done bad things to me (like a stab) will tell you that I most never answer with that attitude. So I guess you did get under my skin, but don't flatter yourself too much: it didn't throw me out of my game. All it did was push me to accept a draw with Yonni instead of without, even if I had been pushing for the 3-way.

Yonni (136 D(S))
07 Dec 11 UTC
The ending feels a little weird and forced but I'll start the discussion saying why I took exception to it - and this is what I told Cachimbo after the last turn.

There was no safe way for you (France) to eliminate me. If Cachimbo had attacked you in Marseilles, he would have gained the centre he needed. I knew that and, I assumed, you knew that which is why I expected the 4WD. The fact that you were on your way to eliminate me instead of giving Turkey the solo is largely a product Turkey making the mistake not to attack.
Scmoo472 (1933 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
No, technically, you were talking your ass off a week or so ago of how this game was yours, Hinting at you winning, therefore, by not winning, you lost. We however did win, because our goal was to stop you from winning, which with or without Yonni would have accomplished our goal, therebye succeeding, and winning.
No, I didn't do it on my own, but I had nothing to tell Yonni, what was I supposed to say.
"I'm stabbing you, please help Turkey win as best you can. No matter what I had told him, the outcome would have been the same. He had no way to hold Munich without your support, and we would have Berlin by then, and it would have been over.

And once more, Yonni was in the game at the end, so my goal of keeping it a 4-way draw succeeded as well. So you lost twice over, and my side. (Pepjin, Yonni, Myself), came out of this as the true winners, who stuck with it until the end.

I no doubt don't question that you played very well, as did all of us in the Draw, Pepjin stayed alive despite being attacked by myself and Russia,
You stayed alive despite NMRing on the first turn, and losing much needed builds right off.
Yonni somehow was still alive there at the end. (Still working out how that worked, because he held you off for ages by himself)
I (as you all know) basically snapped after I got stabbed, because of false judgement, so for me to keep playing and still manage to live, is okay.

By the way, those missed opportunities, were good ones to miss. Had you made a move on Spain and got it, I could have forced a destroy, or you would have had a fleet out of position, and a hole in your side (THANK GOD I CAN TALK ABOUT THIS GAME NOW) So that was really not much of a mishap. If you don't suspect they will perform the move, then don't counter it, or you will probably walk yourself into a trap. Moreover, I was kinda hoping you would try to move something so it would cause your southern flank to have a weakness that I could exploit, but it didn't happen.

So you can stop trying to either make yourself better than me, or make me even with you. Because frankly if you were better, you would have realized that you didn't make a mistake, you just saw the enemy make a mistake.

Honestly, you've still got a lot to learn, as have all of us who played this game, none of us are experts, but we do have knowledge and experience that is worth utilizing and critiquing to make yourselves better.

I would like to thank the Profs that contributed, Gold for setting this up, the TA's for sticking around, PE for assisting me when my TA ran off and went MIA. (I still haven't found him, and PE went MIA too. It think its a conspiracy), and most importantly, to the players who stuck with it, and gave it there all.

That was my concern a bit which is why would have liked to wait for another turn ... I think then a convoy would not have been necessary and it would have been save as long as you would have been unsuspecting. And for that very reason that it was not safe I did not support Sev into Mos, nor did I talk to Turkey about it ... I have to add that to my EOG
Cachimbo (1181 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
Bottom line is this: I've offered the 3-way to Ger and France. Ger accepted, France turned it down.

I would have worked towards it since it was the best outcome I could get at that point. Scmoo decided to play it alone, organizing his stuff with Germany but keeping him somewhat in the dark (Ger told me of their discussions).

What got to me was Scmoo words of self satisfaction after the moves were pulled. That just made me want to rob him of it.

I've been in similar situations before, and generally that stuff is worked out between the drawing countries so that it comes together to everybody's satisfaction. I guess this is what can happen when someone decides he's going to play the wise-ass.

"Spring, 1915: Alright, if you say so. I'm not making this a 3-way draw. The game will end a 4-way draw, I'm not taking Russia out just because that is what you want. I am a stubborn player, and you're trying to convince me to go against my ways, so you're obviously not going to accomplish much at all. I've already made my decision, and that is what I am sticking to.
11:40 AM Spring, 1916: That wasn't so hard now, was it?
02:35 PM I fill in spain, and the game is over, because then you have nothing to gain. ;)
02:37 PM Like I said: all I wanted at this point was a three way draw. You made that difficult. Like you did the rest of the game.

You also had no class in taking out Russia the way you did. At least send a word out on the global channel... that's the least you could do.
02:41 PM I've been talking with him the entire time. You've been trying to cut him out of the game the entire time, so you're not any higher of a class than I am. I didn't make the 3-way difficult, I'm not gullible like some people, when you play more games you'll realize people do that only for the reason of trying to break somewhere and seize the win.

At this point it was 100% assured you couldn't stop me from getting Munich, and you also couldn't break through anywhere, (well you could have, but you failed on that one)"

1915-now messages from Cachimbo and I. I see no self-satisfaction.

And yes, I did keep Pepijn in the dark. He had stabbed me before when I was open about my moves, so I stopped doing it, and just said "Here's what I see you can do, or, Here's what you should do" And it worked.
Cachimbo (1181 D)

I'm done with you Scmoo. That's part of why I ended the game. Have fun spinning the draw in your victory.

Let's keep things civil. Remember that this is a game, and even if you choose never to play with someone again, it's still a game. I'll post a forum for EOG's soon if one isn't already up by the time I get to it.
Pepijn (212 D(S))
07 Dec 11 UTC
Well, I understood why you kept me in the dark, Scmoo, it was frustrating, because I had alternative planes, but I treated you very gingerly since you stabbed me ... I thought that was best, and so I went along when I though it beneficial to me.
Yonni (136 D(S))
07 Dec 11 UTC
Also, I immediately regretted keeping Turkey out of Silesia as soon as I did it. I felt good about the move tactically but it gave Scmoo a little bit too much leeway to take Munich.
Scmoo472 (1933 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
And that is where Diplomacy comes into Diplomacy. I played both of you to do exactly what I wanted, and you guys just went with it.
Pep, lol. I could have, at one point grabbed 3 SC's on 1 move against you, and it passed my mind quite a few times.
Pepijn (212 D(S))
07 Dec 11 UTC
Yes, I believe you! My position was never that secure I thought. And it was a constant worry plus these pesky Russian armies that lay between me and the Turkish units ... (only those Russian units were pesky, all the other ones, were of course treasured and necessary!)
Yonni (136 D(S))
07 Dec 11 UTC
I resent that Pepijn ; ). It was those Russian units that kept you alive so many years ago...
If I may chime in, scmoo if you had taken out Germany with that 3SC move, Turkey would have soloed.

Okay, Spring 1912. School of War Game #2
Topic:Whether or not Italy’s CD affected Turkey’s expansion.
Answer: Yes.
Reason: If you look at the board, Venice was toast, so that wouldn’t have changed, however, Tyrr would have never been taken, so Tunis would not have fallen, and Venice’s retreat would have been into Rome, so the question after that, would be what next, well, out of reasonable moves from either of them, it would have been Rome-Apulia to avoid a convoy/move, and Naples/Tunis bounce in Tyrrhenian, all the while moving Tyrolia to Venice to attempt to take it if Turkey moves to Rome. So where do you ask does this come into play? Well, he took Rome/Venice/Tunis in 1 go. It wouldn’t have happened, and if you can read the map, you would know this. So I dare ask anyone to tell me how what I am saying would be wrong. There isn’t one move, (I sent this to Italy on what to do, I can provide you with the time stamp, and the date if you’d like.) that isn’t blocked by this.
Moves I propagated from both of them.
Nap/Tun-Tyrrhenian.
Rome-Apulia
Tyrolia-Venice
Turkey’s move could have went
Ven- S Ionian-Apu (or Adriatic)
Ionian (or Adriatic) –Apulia
Adriatic- Apulia or S Tri-Venice.
The fact of the matter is, with those Italian moves, Turkey would have A). Not gained 3 centers in 1 year. B). Not been able to Stab Russia had he set up for the takeover of Italy on the next year. C). Both.
C.. Because he would have had to move up his line in the Balkans to fill in Trieste/Venice. So he wouldn’t have gotten anything.
I’ll post my EOG in a few hours on the other post. I was just annoyed I couldn’t discuss this earlier, so now I can. Mwahahahaha.
Heh ;)
