Will you be my friend? (For real this time)
I'd like to start a high-quality game with players I haven't played before. I'd like to get people who are newer to the site involved, but veterans who I don't know are also OK. The game will be WTA and I'd like non-anon, but if people really want anon that's fine, too. I reserve the right not to be your friend : ) If Tallfred is still interested, I've reserved a spot for him.

Traveler IQ - What is yours?
I owe a good deal of my knowledge of prominent European cities to Diplomacy. I was curious as to how well my fellow diplomats would do.
I challenge you to test your knowledge. http://www.travelpod.com/traveler-iq

This time on Technology Weekly
I think it's great that people love talking politics and philosphoy so much, but there is only so much of it I can handle. However, I do know we've got a lot of technologists here as well, so I thought I'd pilot a Tech/Sci spin-off of obi's infamous series. I'll try to find an interesting thing to talk about, which people can comment on, or you can share your own stuff.

The NHL Playoffs Are SET! (Who've You Got?)
All 16 teams are set! The Rangers and Blackhawks just squeak in, the Hurricanes and Stars jsut miss out, and all three California teams, the Kings, the sharks, and my Ducks, are in the playoffs...more Californian teams than Canadian teams! So...who'll defeat who, and when the dust settles, which team will get to drink from Lord Stanley's Cup this year? :D

Will coalition survive AV vote debacle?
What do you make of Huhne going off the deep end on the Tories? I think Cameron's crowd really made a mess of things by attacking the Libs for broken promises when those broken promises helped support the Tories in government. I think an election is likely. What say you?

Capturing pieces
Are there any varients of diplomacy where a unit, surrounded and not able to retreat, are captured rather than destroyed (perhaps to be used as future bargaining chips). I would think that would add alot to the game. Just curious.

Osama Bin Laden Conspiracy Solution
So the thread about OBL has been dragging on with the two sides getting nowhere. I propose a fixed-alliance game of Diplomacy to solve it. On one side will be me, Invictus and Santa Clauswitz. On the other will be Darwyn, Sicarus and mapleleaf. The final unalligned player will be someone who hated the entire thread such as Sayjo or Siddhartha. My challenge has been put forth, I hope you all accept.

League Game
I can't find the email for the mods; one of our players hasn't been around for 5-6 days and our next league game has just started, we don't want him to miss out - could this be paused? Thanks heaps, I imagine he should be back sooner or later,

Turkey winning Gunboats
I am relatively new to playing Gunboats, I have only done a few live ones but I am getting the feeling that Turkey has a big advantage. Anyone else found this or has it just been random chance.

So, I haven't played many games with different people in a while and that makes me sad. If you'd like to play (specifically tallfred), let me know. You may be turned down for high CDs.

lol. all i'm going to say is that there are people who believe the idea of a round earth is a large conspiracy.

but i'm also going to add that in my opinion literally anything is possible.

but since you should probably believe *something* probably better to believe that which is... well.. believable.

If you were going to fabricate evidence and lie about something like this, wouldn't you get your story straight beforehand so as to avoid exactly this?
This whole situation sounds a lot more like government incompetence than government coverup. Once again people are forgetting the maxim "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity or incompetence."

I agree with Sayjo. Reading this thread made me depressed. :(
Alright I have a solution to this problem, I'll be posting a thread about it in a bit.

I'm more or less convinced that OBL was killed by Navy SEALs last Sunday. But I see no reason or need to mock those who believe otherwise. Before the story broke, I was fairly certain OBL was already dead - so, I think, did most other people. Given the frequency and seriousness of lies our government tells us, only a fool would take what they say at face value. Add to this the constantly changing story and the refusal to release the most basic evidence, and I think skepticism is well justified.

Obviously Bin Ladin was killed by Al Qaeda's chief assassin, Prince Philip, after he refused to disprove rumours that he was born in Hawaii and thus ineligible to lead an anti-western terrorist organisation. The big danger now, of course, is if Al Qaeda under its new leadership allies itself with North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and the Lizard Men to form a coalition strong enough to capture CERN and manufacture enough kryptonite to defeat Obama once and for all.

None of this would have happened, of course, if it wasn't for Nick Clegg giving in to the Tories. Damn you, sir! You've doomed us all!
Well, its fairly obvious that Osama is dead. It's also obvious the US government wants to cover something up. There are three possible reasons, in order of most plausible to least.

-The way he was killed was not the "heroic raid" they claim it to be and/or he was tortured for information before his death. (Most likely scenario)

-He was killed some time ago by somebody other than the US governement, and US informants recently confirmed that or a US agent found his decaying body. Thus, USA decides to take the credit to make the war on terror seem successful.

-Osama was never actually involved in terrorism, and all his videos were the production of the US government. The government decided to "kill him off" in order to either say they are done in the middle-east, or to say they need to strike harder now more than ever to finish it off. (I understand this one is totally ridiculous)
