You have to win or draw against good players to gain a decent rating. Wins against noobs don't count for much.

Also you have only recently joined. Keep up the good work and you soon rise up the ranks, but try to join games with top-notch players.

Sorry I have realized we are talking at cross purposes. You are talking about points, while I am talking about Ghost Rating. The former is the official ranking system, but it is not a very reliable guide. To rise in the points system you need to win lots of points. MadMarx is number one and has something like 24,000 . But points are not reliable.
Ghost Rating (developed by TheGhostmaker) is analogous to the Elo chess rating system. Players are graded by how well they perform against other players, and the stand of those other players also counts. Thus draw against players ranked the same as you and your rating won't change much. But draw against higher rated players and your rating will increase. Ghost Ratings come out once a month. If you're insane like Sarg, you'll break the top 50 in your first month, but that's very rare. I've been here 7 months and am almost in top 100. You'll move up in no time

Even then - many people with higher rankings have lower win % because the bigger games are closer, and even a small edge will give you a lot of points.

And those descriptions on the site are total BS. They are based on available points (not total or win percents or games played) so have no meaning whatsoever except to insult the player who likes to risk a lot of points and never points farms.

^^ Not quite true, they are a good overall judge of a players ability. IN GENERAL those with more points are more able.

Bullshit. They only reflect available points, not total points. If you were to get into a 2100 point buy in game, it would say you were a crappy player.

how many available points do you need to have for it to say your a diplomat? im finishing up my last 2 games that im in soon and dont know how many more points i need to reach that lol. yeah i know it doesnt really mean anything but i still want to get to that just cuz =)

Right now, I'm a political puppet, but just the other day I was a diplomat. I have spent 70 in the meantime to get into games and no others have ended. It punishes those who try to make the most of their available points.

I don't know the exact figure, but I think anything over 100 or maybe 125.

im guessing you need to be in like top 5% cuz im pretty close right now at the top 7% and im "mastermind"

The system used to not keep track of your "total points" at all, from what I remember. The original ranking system was determined by available points. I'd love to see a change where TOTAL points are used instead of available.

What would really be good is to use total value. Add up your worth in all your games plus your available points and use that.

That said, I've several times expressed my support for switching to Total Points.
This wouldn't be hard to do, as they can be easily calculated by the scripts as done for the profile pages. Moreover, this value could be used to replace the points value saved on each users database entry. Then, instead of calculating 'Total Points' the same maths (but in reverse) could be used to calculate 'Free Points'.
Thus it would generate no more server load and would lead to a more useful statistic

They're done by what percentile of the over - 100pt people you're in.
If you're less than 100 you get the puppet one. Look them up in the source if you're interested

So, figle, would you consider me a puppet? That's where I almost always am because I keep my points invested and like to play with players better than me, which means I bleed off points on a regular basis. But my GR and my steady rise in the leagues would indicate I'm nobody's puppet.

No. However, as I said its a GENERAL thing.
Would you consider me to be in the top 2%? Almost certainly not, yet according to the rankings I am. We are both anomalous. However, two cases does not prove me wrong.

Actually, I might just consider you in the top 2% on this site.
