The former is the official ranking system, but it is not a very reliable guide. To rise in the points system you need to win lots of points. MadMarx is number one and has something like 24,000

. But points are not reliable.
Ghost Rating (developed by TheGhostmaker) is analogous to the Elo chess rating system. Players are graded by how well they perform against other players, and the stand of those other players also counts. Thus draw against players ranked the same as you and your rating won't change much. But draw against higher rated players and your rating will increase. Ghost Ratings come out once a month.
