Fictional Alternate Histories
I've found them to be interesting, especially if you are writing one yourself. It teaches you A LOT about real-world history, and it's interesting to speculate about what COULD have been...

I want to explain why I kept playing. There was no 1901 CD - this was a good thing. Germany CDed in about 1903 or 1904. At the point he CDed I was already in Kiel and he was doomed. I am not trying to say that it didn't give me (and France) an advantage. However, it was small and we didn;t see everyone voting cancel because of it.

When Russia CDed I hardly noticed to be honest. I wasn't really involved with that part of the board. Again, no excuse, but he was replaced and I hadn't even moved anywhere where it mattered. St. Petes was always within my reach.

France had several turns of entering holds. This is not a CD.

If you all had played for a stalemate it would have been a draw. I do not draw games that I can win. I would cancel if everyone else had voted it.

It seems that the game just had too many incompetent and weird players. I think that was the real problem. Feel free to bash me over this. I am curious to what will be said.

quick eog:

the initial cds, germany and russia, didnt afect lando's solo bid so he was in his rights not to cancel. a stalemate couldve been set but france was incompetent and a poor sport. and ava and i never got on the same page. we bungled the tunis defense, we just didnt communicate well at all.
ppung and karthik, very poor sports for cd'ing when stuff turned
sarg - thanks for taking over
michigan man - good game
ava - i liked your creative play in the opening. but i dont think going for spain was very productive. i thought you should have focussed on building the line in the middle of the med instead.
lando - good game
Frank (100 D)
23 Mar 11 UTC
i didn't vote cancel because the game wasnt ruined by cd's. the game was lost by (a) me and ava not coordinating well enough to build a line and (b) france being a poor sport and a shitty player

I totally agree with that. Giving up Tunis in such a frivolous way shocked me.
yeah he was the one complaining in the thread for a draw but gave up making real orders. if you're going to all hold why not just CD? he was finalizing staying put. weird.
ava2790 (232 D(S))

Yeah too bad Frank and I couldn't get the fleet moves together to defend Tunis. But that's all part of the gunboat. I wonder if gramilaj was the original Russia and if so why he left...

Anyhow, I was kind of annoyed that France took the pains to attack me and never turned around when England grew strong. You can't enter draw and just sit there hoping that people will draw, you have to do something about it. The game was going well for me until Austria attacked Serbia. If he'd let me keep it perhaps I wouldn't have had to do all that hedgehog defense. But it was fun while it lasted, and until England started growing at the rate of 3 a year.
Tunis was 18. I had no play for moscow or warsaw. I got lucky that Frank and Ava keeped anticipating each other's moves incorrectly.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
23 Mar 11 UTC
I actually wanted Frank to take Tunis and defend it himself. Didn't anticipate Frank going to Tuscany...I thought he should've just moved to Tunis to bounce England if required, and have the follow up unit right there to defend it while I fought in Iberia. Unfortunately it was a little more complicated than that. Thanks Sargmacher for taking over and being a sport.

Yeah, it was fun while it lasted. Lando is a good cause - I don't mind donating 34 D to him. :)
Yeah, the move you took Spain, I figured by not moving to Tunis I would let Frank have it and force you to disband. I was a little surprised by your moves but I felt they were good.

The beginning of the game was interesting. Although it was pretty clear that France and Germany were both pretty new. Neither of them seemed interested in being friendly with any neighbours.

Ok I'm done. It wasn't a perfect Key but since Austria wasn't going for Greece I figured I may as well block Turkey there. I think my mistake was going for Tunis and leaving Ionian empty. Next time.

I'm going to file this game under "experiments" along with my German Barbarossa and Russian Southern Comfort gunboats.

Oh lol - well I can't take credit - I was doing a mimic of Draungar. All in fun :)
He also always called him Barrrnacle. Which I thought was equally funny.

Don't you guys wish there was enough of a field to fill these games with 7 good gunboat players. There have been so many through here but they always leave.

Those are good ones.

'Lando' and 'Calrissian' are hard names to parody...
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

Sometimes people call me Gordon Landsdowne. I'm not sure why.
Frank (100 D)

I'm not sure Austria realized you were doing the key lepanto.

Also, we definitely had our wires crossed in Spring 1909. I thought you woul go to Tyrrhenian not Ionian. I didnt take tunis because england still didnt have two units in the area and so losing tunis wouldnt have been permanent. I also thought a fleet in Tusc would be necessary to hold a long term line. I'm not sure if that was true, actually. And then the error got compounded in the fall. I thought you'd repeat the same order, so i took tunis and hoped to follow into the tyrrr. oh well. i had fun
he may have realized. In my experience MichiganMan is one to be able to name any opening he is doing. So he probably at least knows the key.

What's up with 5 and 6 player draws?
Looking at results of finished games I see a fair number of those, and I don't get it. Why not just keep playing? Or if someone CDed, why not cancel instead? With that many players, I just can't imagine a situation where no one has the chance to expand further.

Who Am I And Who's Line Is It Anyway?
Ask "yes or no" questions until the identity is guessed, and then the person who guesses correctly takles on an identity and the guessing game begins again (if you're still unclear, look to the title for guidance on how to play this.)

Now, are you ready? (If I said "You Bet Your Life I am!" that'd be too easy to start, huh? OK, I'm thinking of a person...OK, I'm from a play...) ;)

Turkish response to a Western Triple
Lately, I have come across several Western Triple games.
In many of these, Turkey is aiding the R/I/T Counter-alliance that try to oppose the Western Triple.
I always thought that Turkey should take advantage on a Triple, and gobble his eastern neighbours for all he is worth.... What do you think?
