Question

Does an attack cancel if an attacking army is attacked from behind by another army? Would not the attacking army need to hold and defend thereby canceling its movement?

Getting fiends playing, admin help please?

I posted a few months ago mentioning I was trying to get a bunch of friends from work to use the site....

(I was wondering if we would get picked up for meta, same IP and all - sounds like we wont
But I wasn't actually successful in getting them on, we had an email game already in progress, no need to change.
We are now beginning a new game (already created and locked) and they will all join shortly (or already have). I think WebDip will simplify and automate alot of things for us.. as well, it makes Orders much easier for newer players.
My problem is that we had already established Nations and would really like to keep them for this game.
Once they have all registered, is is possible to have an admin manually assign our Nations?
I realize that would be a TON of work if everyone were to request such a thing, but I think it would really help the transition to this new fangled interwebs for 5 or 6 new WebDip players.

I'm not an admin, but I know the tools exist. They do it for certain tournaments now.

speaking of said tourneys, ive really enjoyed the master gamer tournament. you all have been really fun to play with.

They have the power, but probably don't want to be bombarded with requests like this. If you ask really, really nice (and secretly) they'll probably do it.

hmm thats a neat idea, letting guys go CD then swapping around. Points aren't really a concern for us at the moment.
Does the game remain pasword protected in that case? (so no one else steals our spot)

I was hoping it would be a little more seamless for these guys. If it's too much work, they might not bother and just go back to email. Once they see how handy the site is I'm sure they'd think it worth the bother, but until they've had a game or two, I dont think they want to mess around with CD-ing and such.

When a game is created with a password it never* goes away so only someone with the password can pick up a CD position.

*I don't know whether or not mods/admins can remove a password from a game, but there isn't any reason they would do so without being asked to do so.

I have a few more questions regarding this...
About how long do you think the response should be for a request like this? (I know admins are busy, just wondering when they might send me a yes or no on the request)

Is there anyway to speed the order phases, but still allow players to go CD? We may try the 'CD then rejoin' trick, but phases are 36hours. If we all say READY, but some don't enter orders, does that count as CD? (I am assuming not, but maybe someone knows)
The guys are hoping to start by Wednesday, and think they may just go back to email if this doesnt work out. :( I still think the site offers many benefits though

Thanks :) as I said I know you guys are busy, and certainly can't be expected to dedicate your whole day to the site.
I'd sent a request to '[email protected]' I was just wondering on a turn around, even if the answer is no :)

Thats also why I was wondering about going CD.. wouldn't have to bother you guys with it. You have enough work with whiners about cheating and such.
Oh, and with 'talk nicely' can that also include bribery and favors? :)

We can remove game passwords, but we wouldn't.
And we can move you round yes.
Unfortunately as you may have noticed we've all kinda died out or gone into hibernation for the summer :/

summer vacation eh? :) I wish I had one of those.
Is there a call for more admins, or devs even? I assume php and mySQL is the core of the site?
Anyone still around that can help me out? The guys are getting restless.. fortunaltey one of them is away for a few days, so that sort of puts off the start of the game regardless :)

As far as I know dev stuff is coming along a bit here & there, but at the moment I believe kestas is working on localhost, which leaves a few issues with integration.
The issue is more that there are not enough moderators helping run the site currently.
When first introduced there were far fewer players, and yet more active moderators. Times change, and now we don't have the time it requires.
Current mods are Dangermouse, Chrispminis, Figlesquidge (ie me!), thewonderllama, theGhostMaker & Xapi

Looks like it's back to email and jDip for us. :( I wish they were a little more flexible and willing to take the Nations the web game chose.
How long do accounts stay active for? Maybe I can get them back on for our next game... BEFORE we draw our own countires :)

One last question regarding going CD... does it put players CD based on not submitting any orders, or based on no input at all? (or is there even a time aspect to it?)

Instead of having to wait for phases to expire, in order to CD someone... can we just click READY, and progress the game.. Will those who didnt submit any actual orders be flagged as away... and eventually CD?

hehe yeah, I was hoping there would be an admin available to help us out sometime this week.
Actually this thread was more to ask and try to figgure out alternate options if possible.
My actual 'official' admin request was emailed to the admin email. Just wasn't sure if it's really being checked. As you say, you guys are in short supply and plenty busy.

I'm hoping that CD is triggers by 'no orders' ... then I can get everyone together sometime this week and we can use the CD workaround by clicking ready by not supplying orders. They may tolerate that if I organize it well and it doesnt take very long.
Here's hoping :)

I think that you are looking for something this site does not offer. And asking the mods to go out of their way to do something that isn't offered normally is a little bold. I am sure that there are sites where you can pick your own country. Its just that this one doesn't. The mods are busy guys. This isn't their full time job. They are just volunteers.

I started the thread sort of to ask if I could even ask. I was hoping someone who knew, could offer alternatives, or let me know if the admins can even do that. If I was told admins cant do that, then I wouldn't have bothered them. As you said, they are busy and have better things to do than manually edit every game that gets made.
I recieved alternate suggestions, and was told that games can occasionally be edited.
I thought a polite Email wouldn't hurt. I understand that they are unavailable, that's fine.
I thank the mods for whatever time they did spend on this, especially Fig for getting back to me.

And, no, this site only avoids MOST of humanity, not ALL... that's World of Warcraft

Yeah....chill out on WoW. Because of WoW, I was able to get my wife into gaming. (Woo hoo!!) I know...I'm a geek, blah blah blah...but having your wife play with you instead of bitching at you is pretty freaking awesome! (Of course...I'm out now. waiting to see if Cataclysm if worth it...or Knight of the Old Republic)
